Nowadays new information and communication technologies (IT) directly influence teaching methods, practices and resources. The use of virtual reality (VR) technology in education enables new approaches that can enhance, guide, and stimulate students' interest in learning while allowing them to experience the subject and acquire sensory and intuitive cognition in a more personal and realistic environment. This research aims to answer the question: can constructive spatial activity with real materials in real space be replaced by virtual space and digital tools in terms of assessing stability and knowledge acquisition? This current pilot study aims to examine the feasibility of our research setup and analysis methods while children are asked to perform an intuitive creative process to construct a structure in real and digital space. We involved twelve school-Age (8,47 years average) from an elementary school, and we randomly allocated them to group 1 (real space construction) and to group 2 (tablet application construction). We created a behavioral coding scheme for the widely used and validated Noldus Observer XT (version 15) video behavior analyzer software. The video analyses showed that the creation phases defined in the construction process appeared on both real space and in a virtual setting, confirming the assumption that the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to stability can also be phased. Based on our pilot research on a small sample, the chosen observation and research methodology is feasible. We predict that the real-space constructive task applied in the measurement can be replaced by a digital interface to experience stability. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper employs MATLAB simulations and various numerical methods to solve ordinary differential equations (ODEs) within a water tank drainage system. The study compares one-step methods with multistep methods to analyze global and local errors in solving differential equations. The study underscores the significance of selecting an appropriate step size in enhancing the accuracy of numerical solutions, particularly in ensuring precise outcomes for water level control applications such as chemical processing operations, bottling industries, and water tanks and reservoirs. The study aims to provide insights into the trade-offs involved in choosing various numerical methods, considering factors such as accuracy, stability, computation time, memory usage, and optimal step sizes when addressing similar problems where accuracy is crucial. © 2024, The Authors. We present a diffusion probabilistic model (DPM) capable of generating high-quality electroencephalography (EEG) signals. In particular, we investigate the fidelity of synthesized visually evoked potentials and the performance of the novel class-conditioned continuous-time DPM that generates the signals. We carefully select our neural network architecture to prevent generated frequency artifacts in the multi-channel synthesized EEG signals. With progressive distillation, we are able to achieve a single-step diffusion model that still has a competitive performance. With generative metrics and statistical analysis, we show that using DPMs for brain signal generation is feasible.

In this paper, an integrated path planning and tracking algorithm are presented. The proposed cascade structure consists of two parts. The outer loop is a predictive, optimization-based yaw rate reference planner that uses a path-based coordinate system handling the reference track as boundary constraints, seeking to find the maneuver with the possible minimal control effort. The inner loop is responsible for the lateral and longitudinal movement ensuring robustness against parameter changes and disturbances, using the Internal Model control structure. The algorithm includes a minimal number of tuning parameters as the lateral planner path uses a physical phenomenon as a cost function. The effectiveness of the proposed structure is illustrated by simulation results. The algorithm was implemented in a real-time environment, and the tests performed on the Lotus Evora test vehicle developed by ThyssenKrupp are examined and evaluated. © 2021 AEIT.

Perspiration is a physiological response in high-stress situations, that also plays a key role in thermoregulation and stress management. Understanding perspiration patterns is used for assessing physiological responses and optimizing human performance especially in professions such as emergency medical services and military operations, as well as for individuals exposed to Isolated Confined Extreme (ICE) environments such as astronauts and space analog mission participants. This paper defines a Digital Twin (DT) model, that will be integrated with an existing physical sweat simulator module (SSM) prototype. Its goal is to simulate human perspiration under high-stress conditions by integrating environmental, physiological, and psychological data. The system architecture is developed via Model-Based Systems engineering (MBSE). The scope of the designed virtual model is to accurately reflect physical perspiration, detect abnormal perspiration patterns, and generate recommendations regarding stress countermeasures. The goal is to influence the behavioral and/or physiological state of the physical twin, thereby creating a dynamic, responsive system. Machine learning (ML) models will be used to identify patterns in the environmental, physiological, and psychological inputs and predict sweat volume, chemical composition, and regional sweat distributions across the body. ML will also be used to detect abnormal perspiration patterns based on input data. The application of generative AI for creating test data from simulation templates is anticipated to facilitate the comparative analysis of two to three distinct profiles, such as astronauts, soldiers, and paramedics or firefighters, using simulated values. The SSM, with its integrated sensors, will serve the dual purpose of validating the model and providing realistic physical simulation. © 2024 IEEE.

The Proportional Integral Derivative (PID), the Computed Torque control (CTC), the Fuzzy Logic (FL), and the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) controllers are some examples of methods widely used in the industrial sectors for control purposes. All of them have been largely developed and investigated, but besides their advantages, they have some drawbacks which have not been completely solved yet. Other types of approaches, especially used in Robotics, are classical adaptive methods such as the Adaptive Inverse Dynamics control (AIDC), the Adaptive Slotine-Li control (ASCL), and the Model Reference Adaptive controller (MRAC). They need a formally accurate robot model and they fail in the presence of unknown external disturbances or friction. This work aims to propose a new Fixed Point Iteration-based (FPI) adaptive controller that applies control Lyapunov Function for kinematic design, and a multi-dimensional generalization of the Rodrigues formula for adaptation. The first one is derived using the error of the second derivative of the generalized coordinates and tries to move the error to zero exponentially. The second one is used to develop an Adaptive Deformation function to compensate for the inaccurate dynamic model where the new output for the vector of the second derivative of the generalized coordinates is obtained by smooth rotations. The concept was simulated by using Julia code which demonstrated the feasibility of the idea providing after the transient an oscillating error which ranges between -0.005 and 0.004 rad.

The utilization of active rectifiers as converters in the interface between AC and DC microgrids has become a prevalent practice owing to their capacity to facilitate bidirectional power flow. The contemporary methodology for the development of power converters includes the integration of real-time simulation steps for the validation of control schemes and the assurance of safe implementation with hardware. The present study pro-poses a methodology for developing a real-time Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation framework, which aims to facilitate the rapid prototyping of advanced control algorithms for an Active-Front-End (AFE) rectifier, especially a Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) control strategy. This approach aims to enhance the dynamic performance and stability of low-inertia power systems by mimicking the behavior of a synchronous generator, thereby providing virtual inertia to the power system. This paper explores the applicability of generative AI (genAI), specifically Large Language Models (LLMs), for the automatic generation and configuration of metaheuristic algorithms to address a real-world engineering problem: the optimal parameter estimation of time-delay systems in interconnected heating-cooling loops. The study introduces a pioneering workflow and iterative architecture with feedback within the emerging field of genAI-driven optimization for real optimization problems, eliminating the need for manually crafted or modified algorithms. This automated system empowers domain experts in engineering to solve complex optimization problems with minimal knowledge of optimization algorithms, lowering the barrier to entry for sophisticated algorithm use. We demonstrate how LLMs can generate effective optimizers under conditions like connstrained optimization problems where the solution lies near the boundaries of the search space. Four state-of-the-art LLMs (closed and open-sourced) have been selected for experiments. These are GPT-4o, GPT-4o mini, Claude Sonnet 3.5 and Llama 3.1. All studied LLMs generated metaheuristics that outperformed the initialization baseline optimization method (Random Search and CMA-ES). Notably, the Claude Sonnet 3.5 model generated a metaheuristic with the best mean results, almost matching the performance of the tuned state-of-the-art DISH algorithm, as an example of adaptive Differential Evolution. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

This paper proposes a method to reduce the energy consumption of an industrial disassembly process implemented on a production line by using an energy-efficient secondary disassembly process. In the case of defective products, the flow directs the simple product with priority to be disassembled in workstation (WS) 7. Therefore, all defective products are redirected to WS7. The disassembly of all simple products in WS7 is problematic for two reasons: the power consumption of WS7 is high compared to the other workstations, additionally there is an increased possibility of bottlenecks in the production line due to the high disassembly time. The proposed solution to reduce the possibility of deadlock and reduce power consumption is to redirect the defective products to the flexible cell (FC). Handling robots located in neighboring stations will participate collaboratively in the disassembly process. The control structure ensures that the two robots 'meet' in the boundary plane of WS3 with WS4 and disassemble each component through collaborative tasks. Collaborative control of disassembly is thought of as a solution to the global 'fluidization' of production, removing the bottleneck, from the overall flow, but also as an ingenious solution to reduce energy consumption. © 2023 IEEE.

Nowadays, the use of inverters is increasing in more and more applications. Environmental awareness is becom-ing a trend, so more and more people install solar energy systems on their houses, which also require the use of inverters. Higher power levels have led to the emergence of three-level inverters which has opened up new challenges, such as the issue of midpoint voltage balancing. This paper discusses voltage balancing and voltage ripple reduction techniques for three-level inverters with Neutral-Point Clamped (NPC) topology. The balancing is based on injecting zero-sequence voltage component in carrier-based modulation.
