Currently, the majority of multi-population algorithms ignore the worst particles and instead learn from the gbest or lbest. Hence, it is simple for these strategies to result in inadequate population variety, which causes early convergence. A multi-population particle swarm optimization considering the worst particles into account (CWMPSO) is suggested to demonstrate the importance of the worst particle information. In addition to considering the best particle, the CWMPSO algorithm concentrates on the worst particle globally. The algorithm divides the population into three subgroups, which learns from the gbest, gworst, and gbest + gworst, respectively. The development of the global worst particle information can be achieved by group learning, allowing for a more thorough exploration of potential optimum solutions and an avoidance of local functional ones. 30 complex CEC2017 benchmark functions were used in this work to test a range of algorithms including CWMPSO with various dimensions. The outcomes demonstrate that, in every dimension, the CWMPSO algorithm is better than other advanced PSOs. © 2023 SPIE.

The load transient response of a power converter is an important property, especially in a test equipment application. The dynamic behavior of a dual active bridge converter mainly depends on the switching frequency, the transformer leakage inductance, and the capacitor bank size. Using the Continuous Cross-Period Single Phase-Shift control, an excellent load transient response can be achieved without the need for expensive hardware components. However, in practical applications, the switch delay and the required inserted dead time distort the current waveform, increasing the electromagnetic noise and reducing the effectiveness of the regulation. In this paper, an adaptive dead time compensation technique is presented, which eliminates such phenomenon. The effects of dead time are analyzed, and mathematical formulas are derived, from which the adaptive compensation technique is formalized. The algorithm is implemented on a TMS320F28075 DSP and tested in a HIL environment. The study revealed that the proposed adaptive technique could mitigate the current waveform distortions. © 2022, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ). Void formation in the lead-free solder joints of electrical components can significantly affect their mechanical properties and thermal performance. Void-detection methods have been investigated in this paper, which are able to identify and measure voids in meniscus-shaped solder joints of surface mounted components automatically. In the experiment, 0603 size resistors (1.5 × 0.75 mm) were soldered onto a testboard, and X-ray images were acquired about the samples then. The image processing methods for the void detection were implemented in OpenCV-Python. At first, the properties of the images were analyzed (for example, calculating the histogram), and then the area, including the resistor and solder pads, was extracted by masking. Several methods were investigated for identifying voids in the images; Canny edge detection, global-and adaptive thresholding, and blob detection algorithm. The accuracy of the extraction methods was evaluated by identifying voids on a test image manually and comparing the results to that provided by the different methods. Canny edge detection was the best in our case, but global thresholding and blob detection are also promising solutions.

File labeling techniques have a long history in analyzing the anthological trends in computational *** situation becomes worse in the case of files downloaded into systems from the ***,most users either have to change file names manually or leave a meaningless name of the files,which increases the time to search required files and results in redundancy and duplications of user ***,no significant work is done on automated file labeling during the organization of heterogeneous user files.A few attempts have been made in topic ***,one major drawback of current topic modeling approaches is better *** rely on specific language types and domain similarity of the *** this research,machine learning approaches have been employed to analyze and extract the information from heterogeneous corpus.A different file labeling technique has also been used to get the meaningful and`cohesive topic of the *** results show that the proposed methodology can generate relevant and context-sensitive names for heterogeneous data files and provide additional insight into automated file labeling in operating systems.

Nowadays new information and communication technologies (IT) directly influence teaching methods, practices and resources. The use of virtual reality (VR) technology in education enables new approaches that can enhance, guide, and stimulate students' interest in learning while allowing them to experience the subject and acquire sensory and intuitive cognition in a more personal and realistic environment. This research aims to answer the question: can constructive spatial activity with real materials in real space be replaced by virtual space and digital tools in terms of assessing stability and knowledge acquisition? This current pilot study aims to examine the feasibility of our research setup and analysis methods while children are asked to perform an intuitive creative process to construct a structure in real and digital space. We involved twelve school-age (8,47 years average) from an elementary school, and we randomly allocated them to group 1 (real space construction) and to group 2 (tablet application construction). We created a behavioral coding scheme for the widely used and validated Noldus Observer XT (version 15) video behavior analyzer software. The video analyses showed that the creation phases defined in the construction process appeared on both real space and in a virtual setting, confirming the assumption that the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to stability can also be phased. Based on our pilot research on a small sample, the chosen observation and research methodology is feasible. We predict that the real-space constructive task applied in the measurement can be replaced by a digital interface to experience stability.

This paper presents a small number of MATLAB APPs and livescript files designed to help students both understand and implement PID tuning. The paper presents the thinking behind the use of MATLAB and the topic itself before then describing the proposed resources in detail. The resources split into files with detailed mathematical and coding background students can use for self-study and assignments, and a virtual laboratory which is more intuitive and interactive and useful for familiarisation with core concepts. The files were recently added to the control101 toolbox (Rossiter, 2023).

This paper proposes a comprehensive methodology for Field-Oriented control (FOC) with parameter variation analysis for Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (IPMSM). The modeling approach for an IPMSM is first presented, followed by a step-by-step procedure for designing a vector-controlled strategy. The formulation is based on a dq-rotating reference frame aligned with the rotor shaft position. A key distinction of this methodology from traditional approaches is that the current controller is designed in the time domain based on desired time constants, while the speed control is formulated within a frequency response domain framework. The proposed hybrid approach enables accurate tuning of the Proportional-Integrator (PI) controllers for both current and speed control loops. Additionally, a parameter variation analysis is conducted to enhance the proposed methodology. The validity region for the design procedure is presented, ensuring that for any wide speed variation of the machine, loop gains are properly tuned. One of the main advantages of the proposed methodology is that it provides a fast, reliable, and accurate technique for implementing IPMSM drive systems. Results from a controller Hardware-in-the-Loop (C-HIL) setup with an external microcontroller are presented. The comprehensive design approach is validated under two different IPMSM parameter sets, demonstrating its effectiveness.

Bio-inspired control by overlapping adaptive clusters: a vehicle platoon case study

Clustering vehicles in a platoon by exchanging information through communication networks leads to an improvement in their performance with a moderate cooperation effort. In particular, in this paper, a bio-inspired methodology for overlapping coalitions of vehicles is proposed, which optimizes communication and control performance. The results obtained using the proposed adaptive clusters method are compared with the ones obtained by a conventional coalitional control strategy, and the comparison illustrates the improved efficiency of the proposed method.

This paper explores the impact of the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) presence on distribution grid operations, highlighting the challenges they present to conventional pricing strategies due to their dual role as power consumers and suppliers, coupled with their energy storage capabilities. We propose an advanced real-time pricing model for the electricity market, employing a novel distributed bilevel optimization framework. This framework distinguishes between the distribution system operator (DSO) at the upper level and the EVs at the lower level, each aiming to optimize profit margins. The optimization includes power flow constraints at the upper level to ensure efficient operation within safe system limits, while model predictive control (MPC) is used to optimize lower-level EV responses. Additionally, we provide a rigorous convergence analysis of the proposed bilevel optimization method. Detailed convergence studies and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithm.

Accelerometers play a crucial role in localization problems, but their accuracy depends on the precision of the calibration process. In this paper, a comparison of optimization algorithms is presented within the scope of between sensor error calibration. The Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) are proposed for the problem, and tested in three different setups. Moreover, the MATLAB built-in fmincon minimization algorithm is also evaluated for calibration parameter estimation. A custom fitness function is proposed to obtain the between sensor misalignment and bias errors, for two accelerometers. The analysis highlights that the algorithms can successfully determine the between sensor error parameters. The conducted comparison shows that fmincon reached an outstanding speed in terms of convergency, but in overall PSO has produced better results compared to GA and fmincon. PSO is more suitable for the calibration problem because of its robustness and stability characteristics.
