Dual decomposition is widely utilized in distributed optimization of multi-agent systems. In practice, the dual decomposition algorithm is desired to admit an asynchronous implementation due to imperfect communication, such as time delay and packet drop. In addition, computational errors also exist when individual agents solve their own subproblems. In this paper, we analyze the convergence of the dual decomposition algorithm in distributed optimization when both the asynchrony in communication and the inexactness in solving subproblems exist. We find that the interaction between asynchrony and inexactness slows down the convergence rate from O(1/k) to O(1/√k). Specifically, with a constant step size, the value of objective function converges to a neighborhood of the optimal value, and the solution converges to a neighborhood of the exact optimal solution. Moreover, the violation of the constraints diminishes in O(1/√k). Our result generalizes and unifies the existing ones that only consider either asynchrony or inexactness. Carbon neutrality goals are driving the increased use of renewable energy (RE). Large-scale use of RE requires accurate energy generation forecasts; optimized power dispatch, which minimizes costs while satisfying operational constraints; effective system control to ensure a stable power supply; and electricity markets that support bidding and trading decisions associated with RE. However, the uncertainties in RE generation make renewable power systems challenging to operate. For example, the intermittent nature of wind power can make it difficult to balance the supply and demand of electricity in real time; therefore, traditional power sources could be needed to meet the demand, which can increase electricity prices. This Review outlines the potential of artificial intelligence-based methods for supporting renewable power system operation. We discuss the ability of machine learning, deep learning and reinforcement learning methods to facilitate power system forecasts, dispatch, control and markets to support the use of RE. We also emphasize the applicability of these techniques to different operational problems. Finally, we discuss potential trends in renewable power system development and approaches to address the associated operational challenges such as the increasingly distributed nature of RE installations, diversification of energy storage systems and growing market complexity.

In engineering applications, we often need the derivatives of functions defined by a program. The approach chosen for derivative computation must be algebraic to allow computer implementation. A particular solution to obtain first derivatives is the application of dual numbers. This paper proposes simple and compact generalizations of this idea to obtain derivatives of arbitrary order for single or multi-variate functions and the automatic handling of 0/0 ambiguities in the calculations. We also provide the C++ code that takes advantage of operator overloading and recursion. The method is demonstrated by path animation, Gaussian curvature computation, and curve fairing. © 2020 Budapest University of technology and Economics. All rights reserved.

In this paper, the pinning boundary sampled-data (SD) synchronization problem of coupled reaction–diffusion neural networks (CRDNNs) with SD-based couplings is investigated under boundary and distributed SD measurements. First, a pinning boundary SD controller is designed to effectively address the synchronization problem of CRDNNs, utilizing boundary and distributed SD measurements and requiring only a small number of sensors and actuators. Then, linear matrix inequalities provide adequate conditions that ensure exponential stability of the synchronization error system by using the designed pinning boundary SD controller, derived through inequality techniques and Lyapunov functionals. Finally, we present a numerical example to showcase the practical applicability and effectiveness of the proposed pinning boundary SD synchronization method.

Intelligent decision-making (IDM) is a cornerstone of artificial intelligence (AI) designed to automate or augment decision processes. Modern IDM paradigms integrate advanced frameworks to enable intelligent agents to make effective and adaptive choices and decompose complex tasks into manageable steps, such as AI agents and high-level reinforcement learning. Recent advances in multimodal foundation-based approaches unify diverse input modalities—such as vision, language, and sensory data—into a cohesive decision-making process. Foundation models (FMs) have become pivotal in science and industry, transforming decision-making and research capabilities. Their large-scale, multimodal data-processing abilities foster adaptability and interdisciplinary breakthroughs across fields such as healthcare, life sciences, and education. This survey examines IDM's evolution, advanced paradigms with FMs and their transformative impact on decision-making across diverse scientific and industrial domains, highlighting the challenges and opportunities in building efficient, adaptive, and ethical decision systems. © 2025 The Authors

The objective of this research is to realize a composite nonlinear feedback control approach for a class of linear and nonlinear systems with parallel-distributed compensation along with sliding mode control *** proposed composite nonlinear feedback control approach consists of two *** a word,the first part provides the stability of the closed-loop system and the fast convergence response,as long as the second one improves transient *** this research,the genetic algorithm in line with the fuzzy logic is designed to calculate constant controller coefficients and optimize the control *** effectiveness of the proposed design is demonstrated by servo position control system and inverted pendulum system with DC motor simulation results.

PoCET: a Polynomial Chaos Expansion Toolbox for Matlab

We introduce PoCET: a free and open-scource Polynomial Chaos Expansion Toolbox for Matlab, featuring the automatic generation of polynomial chaos expansion (PCE) for linear and nonlinear dynamic systems with time-invariant stochastic parameters or initial conditions, as well as several simulation tools. It offers a built-in handling of Gaussian, uniform, and beta probability density functions, projection and collocation-based calculation of PCE coefficients, and the calculation of stochastic moments from a PCE. Efficient algorithms for the calculation of the involved integrals have been designed in order to increase its applicability. PoCET comes with a variety of introductory and instructive examples. Throughout the paper we show how to perform a polynomial chaos expansion on a simple ordinary differential equation using PoCET, as well as how it can be used to solve the more complex task of optimal experimental design.

This paper deals with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor modeling and control. The derived nonlinear dq model is a combination of Finite Element Method simulation data with the classical dq model. The so derived model keeps the precision of the Finite Element Method simulations and also the fast execution times of the dq model. The Finite Element Method data is included in the dq model using Artificial Neural Networks. The derived model is also used for controller design. The chosen controller is a PI like Fuzzy Logic controller, which is tuned using Genetic Algorithm optimization. The Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with Fuzzy Logic controller operation is tested using Real-Time (Model-in-the-Loop) simulations.

ABSTRACTSearch by image has taken the place of the prior wordy approach, considering spatial image comparison in the feature space. Several query image forms are available. Sketch-to-real image matching is very challenging problem, which is commonly based on edge feature detectors to extract features from sketches. However, they are inconvenient, and it is crucial to select different methods. Thus, methods assessment is conducted for similarity matching between sketched and real images for different drawing contents and clarity levels. The assessment approach includes comparing feature keypoints gathered using the Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) and Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF (ORB) methods. In addition, the comparison includes matching of objects inside High-Deﬁnition (HD) images and 3D images based on their generated features. The textual-Hcontent image search is another search type that is frequently used in brand logo cases. Hence, it is presented for text-logo image search based on visual features. Besides, the motives and downsides of the considered methods are declared, including the space and time complexities within test cases.
