This paper studies the distributed least-squares optimization problem with differential privacy requirement of local cost functions, for which two differentially private distributed solvers are proposed. The first is established on the distributed gradient tracking algorithm, by appropriately perturbing the initial values and parameters that contain the privacy-sensitive data with Gaussian and truncated Laplacian noises, respectively. Rigorous proofs are established to show the achievable tradeoff between the (ǫ, δ)-differential privacy and the computation accuracy. The second solver is established on the combination of the distributed shuffling mechanism and the average consensus algorithm, which enables each agent to obtain a noisy version of parameters characterizing the global gradient. As a result, the least-squares optimization problem can be eventually solved by each agent locally in such a way that any given (ǫ, δ)-differential privacy requirement can be preserved while the solution may be computed with the accuracy independent of the network size, which makes the latter more suitable for large-scale distributed least-squares problems. Weighted Feedback-Based Quantum Algorithm for Excited States Calculation

Drawing inspiration from the Lyapunov control technique for quantum systems, feedback-based quantum algorithms have been proposed for calculating the ground states of Hamiltonians. In this work, we consider extending these algorithms to tackle calculating excited states. Inspired by the weighted subspace-search variational quantum eigensolver algorithm, we propose a novel weighted feedback-based quantum algorithm for excited state calculation. We show that depending on how we design the weights and the feedback law, we can prepare the pth excited state or lowest energy states up to the pth excited state. Through an application in quantum chemistry, we show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, evaluating its efficacy via numerical simulations. © 2024, CC BY.

Mobile robots, which are produced to fulfill certain tasks to make our lives easier, are becoming more and more common in our environment day by day. In the long run, these robots can be more cost-effective, faster, and more efficient than humans in accomplishing tasks. In order for mobile robots to fulfill the tasks, they need to be able to safely navigate to specific destinations without hitting obstacles. Safely reaching a given goal most accurately and shortly is the problem of autonomy. This autonomy problem is divided into sub-problems and algorithms are needed to solve each sub-problem. The main sub-problems in the field of autonomy are localization, mapping, local planning, and global planning. The main purpose of this paper is to describe how the position information computed by a MEKF (Modified Extended Kalman Filter) localization algorithm using the VDPL (Virtual Dynamic Point Landmark) algorithm, which was previously designed in MATLAB, is published to the ROS environment via a topic. This position information can be used together with the local and global planning algorithms in the navigation stack to realize fully autonomous driving capability in a real-time environment. Using these algorithms, full-autonomous driving tests were conducted on the Turtlebot3 mobile robot in a real-time environment according to a predefined scenario. The performance results of both simulation and real-world tests show that the MEKF using the VDPL algorithm outperforms the AMCL algorithm in the navigation stack in both cases.

Feedback-Based Quantum Algorithm for Constrained Optimization Problems

The feedback-based algorithm for quantum optimization (FALQON) has recently been proposed to find ground states of Hamiltonians and solve quadratic unconstrained binary optimization problems. This paper efficiently generalizes FALQON to tackle quadratic constrained binary optimization (QCBO) problems. For this purpose, we introduce a new operator that encodes the problem's solution as its ground state. Using control theory, we design a quantum control system such that the state converges to the ground state of this operator. When applied to the QCBO problem, we show that our proposed algorithm saves computational resources by reducing the depth of the quantum circuit and can perform better than FALQON. The effectiveness of our proposed algorithm is further illustrated through numerical simulations. © 2024, CC BY.

In realistic distributed optimization scenarios, individual nodes possess only partial information and communicate over bandwidth constrained channels. For this reason, the development of efficient distributed algorithms is essential. In our paper we addresses the challenge of unconstrained distributed optimization. In our scenario each node's local function exhibits strong convexity with Lipschitz continuous gradients. The exchange of information between nodes occurs through 3-bit bandwidth-limited channels (i.e., nodes exchange messages represented by a only 3 -bits). Our proposed algorithm respects the network's bandwidth constraints by leveraging zoom-in and zoom-out operations to adjust quantizer parameters dynamically. We show that during our algorithm's operation nodes are able to converge to the exact optimal solution. Furthermore, we show that our algorithm achieves a linear convergence rate to the optimal solution. We conclude the paper with simulations that highlight our algorithm's unique characteristics. © 2024 IEEE.

Capturing Aerodynamic Characteristics of ATTAS Aircraft with Evolving Intelligent System

Accurate modeling of aerodynamic coefficients is crucial for understanding and optimizing the performance of modern aircraft systems. This paper presents the novel deployment of an Evolving Type-2 Quantum Fuzzy Neural Network (eT2QFNN) for modeling the aerodynamic coefficients of the ATTAS aircraft to express the aerodynamic characteristics. eT2QFNN can represent the nonlinear aircraft model by creating multiple linear submodels with its rule-based structure through an incremental learning strategy rather than a traditional batch learning approach. Moreover, it enhances robustness to uncertainties and data noise through its quantum membership functions, as well as its automatic rule-learning and parameter-tuning capabilities. During the estimation of the aerodynamic coefficients via the flight data of the ATTAS, two different studies are conducted in the training phase: one with a large amount of data and the other with a limited amount of data. The results show that the modeling performance of the eT2QFNN is superior in comparison to baseline counterparts. Furthermore, eT2QFNN estimated the aerodynamic model with fewer rules compared to Type-1 fuzzy counterparts. In addition, by applying the Delta method to the proposed approach, the stability and control derivatives of the aircraft are analyzed. This article presents a method for selecting the best battery sizing based on an optimal market participation strategy in a hybrid renewable power plant. The proposed formulation considers different scenarios to ensure the reserve provision compliance and includes two terms. The first one maximizes the day-ahead and automatic frequency restoration reserve (aFRR) market revenues. The second minimizes the battery degradation, accounting for both cycling and calendar ageing effects. The Iberian Electricity Market is selected as the study case, and two different market scenarios are compared: the current market scenario and the upcoming one, in which the upward and downward aFRR band offers are independent. The operation of a set of batteries is simulated until their end of life, and results reveal that energy/power ratios higher than 3 h for the current market scenario, and than 4 h for the upcoming one, are less cost effective. Regarding the best battery energy storage systems sizing, the selection varies considering incomes or profitability criteria. Moreover, keeping the current prices, in the upcoming market scenario hybrid renewable power plants are encouraged to participate more in the downward than in the upward aFRR market. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

The problems associated with the operation of overhead power lines and ways of improving control over their condition with the help of UAVs are considered. A structural diagram of the system of technical diagnostics of overhead lines based on UAVs was developed, for which the necessary diagnostic parameters were selected according to informative criteria. An analysis of types of UAVs was carried out in order to determine their suitability and efficiency of use for diagnosing the condition of overhead lines. © 2023 IEEE.

The technological process of the churning process in continuous butter manufacture were considered. The qualitative indicator of the water content of butter was modeled on the basis of a set of industrial data using an artificial neural network (ANN). The prototype of an intelligent system for predicting of the water content of butter allows to increase the information support of the operator-technologist. The proposed model predicts the water content of butter with an error of less than 2%. The input variables of the forecast model prototype are cream fat content, cream ripening temperature, cream supply temperature, frequency of revolutions of the stirrer of the whipping device, and consumption of the normalizing component. Further research is aimed at the development of a decision support information system for dairy manufacture and should be integrated into the subsystem of automated control of the technological process to ensure proper functioning in real time. © 2022 IEEE.
