In cooperation with IVECO Magirus for the new generation of fire turntable ladders, a trajectory tracking control was developed to avoid swaying of the cage especially in case of large ladder lengths. Beside the active damping of the upcoming oscillations as a new functionality an automated mode for the ladder operation was implemented. This automated mode has to provide time indexed reference functions for the underlying trajectory tracking control after a teach-in run of the ladder. The algorithm has to shorten the traveling time by considering variable kinematic constraints and a given corridor for the resulting play back trajectory.

Support vector machine (SVM) based classification is applied to fault diagnostics of an electrical machine. Numerical magnetic field analysis is used to provide virtual measurement data from healthy and faulty operations of an electric machine. Power spectra estimates of a stator line current of the motor are calculated with Welch's method, and SVMs are applied to distinguish the healthy spectrum from faulty spectra. Multiple SVMs are combined with a majority voting approach to reconstruct the final classification decision.

Current traffic control and management systems are mainly macro-level vehicle coordination control models, not to take into account the factors of the individual car in the systems. This paper proposes an intelligent lane-changing model of the intelligent vehicle highway systems. This model is based on the traffic density distribution and safety control methods. Finally, we use simulation software to verify its feasibility and show that this model can achieve a higher traffic throughput and reduce the total travel time.

Because the neuro-fuzzy system (NFS) combines the learning capability of neural networks and the decision structure of fuzzy inference systems, it is very useful in the modeling, control, and forecasting of complex systems such as traffic systems. This paper proposes a form of neuro-fuzzy systems (NFS) and applies it to forecast short-term traffic flows. Different learning algorithms for the NFS have been tested and evaluated using actual traffic data collected from the Loop 3 Freeway in Beijing, China. These test results indicate that the NFS based approach is an effective method for short-tern traffic flow forecasting. To demonstrate the advantage of the proposed approach, a comparison with a typical neural network based approach has been made.
