Modern acoustic emission (AE) diagnostic systems are sensitive instruments for detecting developing defects. A significant limitation of the AE method is the difficulty of isolating signals against the background of interference, which significantly reduces the signal-to-interference ratio. Therefore, in this article a cascade filtering scheme for visualizing acoustic signatures through a scalogram is proposed to isolate AE signals that characterize the process of defect formation. Acoustic portraits of the isolated signals characterizing the process of defect formation are given. It is shown that the amplitude of the AE signal from a defective structure during crack formation is characterized by the highest values of the signal amplitude and has a rich frequency-time structure, the signal shape of which is determined by discrete AE.

ERTMS and ALSN signalling systems are two of the major signalling systems that are under operation in the world. With the introduction of technical specifications for interoperability, ERTMS promises increased passenger and freight attractiveness and seamless cross-border operation. The ERTMS specifications recognise ETCS as a Class A train protection system and other signalling systems in Europe as Class B train protection systems. The specifications further define “Specific Transmission Modules” (STMs) that enable trains with ETCS onboard to operate in railway lines that are equipped with Class B train protection systems. Although ALSN is classified as a Class B train protection system, ALSN STM is not defined yet. This paper focuses on proposing a novel ALSN STM that enables trains with ETCS onboard to operate in the countries where ALSN trackside is operational. The proposed STM unit is conceptualised as a system architecture, and a new standardised interface is introduced to enable signalling interoperability between ERTMS and ALSN.

The paper presents a computer vision system for safe landing of an unmanned aerial vehicle in the situation of possible input visual information distortions. An algorithm for image preprocessing was developed, consisting of increasing contrast by equalizing the intensity histogram, followed by applying a Gaussian filter to remove extra noise. The landing platform has two states: open and closed. For their recognition, the YOLOv3-tiny neural network was modified. The accuracy of recognition for the test set was 0.97. The algorithm was integrated into the Jetson Nano. The achieved frame processing time was 0.05 seconds, which allows real-time processing of the video stream. © 2022 IEEE.

The paper presents a study of the effectiveness of software from the point of view of minimizing the energy consumption of microprocessor devices. In this case, the programming of the microcontroller in various programming languages for arithmetic operations, as well as data output through the port, is considered. Currently, the development of information and communication technologies has led to the emergence of the Internet of Things. The technological basis for the implementation of the concept of the Internet of Things is wireless sensor networks. Clustering, a machine learning technique, is an effective way to extend the lifecycle and reduce power consumption of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The article presents modeling and clustering of flying wireless sensor networks that form when a group of drones moves. The introduction of moving sensors leads to dynamic clustering of the entire system at successive times. complicating the determination of the number of individual clusters and their integration. The clustering mechanism is performed using the K-means algorithm with respect to the location of wireless stationary and flying sensors, described by coordinates x, y, and z in three-dimensional space. © 2021 IEEE.

Obtaining an accurate mathematical model is critical in control design applications. Therefore, the parameter uncertainties that occur during modeling or operation should be identified, and the controller design should be made to compensate for these uncertainties. In this paper, a system identification study was performed with a global-based Big Bang-Big Crunch optimization algorithm using input and output data from the one degree of freedom helicopter system. System dynamics are determined using this optimization algorithm over the flowing data, and the transfer function that best represents the system's behavior is obtained. A discrete time Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller is designed to minimize the overshoot and steady-state error of the system response with the same optimization algorithm. This process was used to automatically detect parametric uncertainties as long as the system receives input-output data, and to create a tuned PID controller structure. In order to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed methodology, initial PID is designed for the real-time system, and the performance of this PID and the tuned PID controller is compared under the parameter uncertainty. As a result, it is ensured that the tuned PID structure has the desired transient response dynamics of the system under parameter uncertainty compared to the initial PID structure.

A new concept of automated phonetic analysis of a speech with asymptotic adaptation to the specifics of phonation of language units is proposed. Unlike analogues, the concept is formalized in the paradigm of information theory with the criterion of analysis of the speech signal based on its relative entropy. The obtained mathematical apparatus allows for analysing the studied process both in statics and dynamics. The quality of the analysis is characterized by errors in the first (incorrect recognition of the language unit) and the second (variability of phonation of the language unit within the corresponding cluster) kind. The derived result is an analytically substantiated possibility of estimating the phonetic saturation of speech. The formulated concept can also be used to assess the degree of information saturation of the cluster of the language unit. Such an assessment is important for the task of creating universal background models, which are an essential element of current recognition systems for both language and speaker. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, a comparative analysis of the processes occurring in an electrohydraulic servosystem with throttle control operating with different types of controllers, has been made. A data collection and control system based on the universal measuring module Series Data Acquisition NI USB-6215 and Data Acquisition Toolbox TM from Matlab Simulink, is presented. Two types of controls are considered: through a classic PI controller and standard fuzzy control. The methodology for synthesizing the fuzzy control on the basis of the realized PI controller is presented. In addition, a comparison of the quality indicators of the system with the two types of control with continuous PI controller and fuzzy controllers is made, with two input thermals (error and error derivative) and three input thermals (error, first error derivative and output derivative)). © 2021 IEEE.

The problems of simulation traffic flows arise in various areas of human activity, for example in the road industry and in the design of production lines. Various approaches are used to simulate traffic flows. One of them is the use of system dynamics methods. The use of system dynamics makes it possible to model traffic flow as a continuous system of ordinary differential equations. The presence of control algorithms in the model when using the system dynamics method leads to the appearance of additional nonlinearities with discontinuities of the first type. This leads to the fact that in certain regimes the system of differential equations becomes stiff. To solve these systems of equations, various integration methods can be used, including methods with a variable integration step. The use of methods with a variable integration step in combination with event detection methods makes it possible to perform calculations with a step significantly larger than when using discrete traffic flow models.

The essential quality parameter of rolled products is the flatness along the rolled stock length. The profile defects of the rolled stock, produced at the modern plate mill 5000, frequently occur in the course of intense cooling implied by the thermomechanical rolling technology. To eliminate them, the mill lines include cold straightening machines. The authors show typical flatness defects caused by the occurrence of longitudinal, central and edge waves. Further, the paper characterizes a cold straightening machine installed at the mill 5000 and provides the parameters of electric engines of straightening rollers. The key drawback of the design algorithm for electric drives' control is setting engine constant moments regardless of the thickness and character of the defects in the rolled stock processed. This causes overloading of the electric and mechanical systems of certain rollers and unsatisfactory product quality. To eliminate the drawback, the authors developed a method for individual setting of engine moments closely coupled in the course of sheet processing. The authors present a functional block diagram for the control system to implement the method. The rationale is provided for the digital setting of moment controllers switched on the inputs of speed controllers. The authors conducted simulation modelling and comparative analysis of engine speeds and moments at the design and proposed settings. The paper provides the analysis of oscillograms obtained before and after the introduction of the control system developed. Its technical and economic feasibility was confirmed during operation. © 2023 IEEE.
