control performance decreases significantly in the presence of uncertainty in variable availability, measurement noise, or instrumentation failure. In cluttered environments such as the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), clinical measures are often influenced by noise and artifacts. An important component in post-operative treatment is the assessment and management of pain levels. However, reliable information is critical for clinically relevant results and improved patient outcomes. From a control engineering point of view, variables are often estimated and interpolated to allow a suitable flow of feedback information to control loops for the optimization of drug dosages. In this context, Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands as a promising tool to augment pain level assessment. This study introduces and compares two AI-based approaches for predicting continuous Numerical Rating Scales (NRS) based on heart rate (HR) data. The first approach uses polynomial regression, lasso regression, and ridge regression, while the second employs an LSTM model. Notably, the AI prediction model, independent of traditional interpolation techniques, outperforms the approach relying on interpolation. The proposed AI-based method holds promise for continuous estimation and can serve as an estimator for model-based control. This proof of concept study underscores the potential of AI tools to enhance pain level assessment.

Personalised pharmacokinetic models imply stepping away from the classical assumption of homogeneous drug mixing in various tissue compartments in the body, with a particular impact on obese patients. In this work, the pharmacokinetic compartmental model structure is revisited to account for non-uniform distribution of uptake/clearance time constants in patients as a nonlinear function of body mass index. Simulations are confirming expected patterns of drug distribution in the body and can account for post-anesthesia side effects up to 72 hours. We apply spectroscopy to extract the complex impedance in fat tissue samples. The data is modelled by a Cole-Cole model, where parameters of the fractional order impedance model are optimized using a genetic algorithm. The findings suggest that fat tissue will exhibit anomalous diffusion when drug uptake and clearance are present.

The article is devoted to the development and improvement of methods for controlling the power supply of high-capacity facilities with high consumption, which use Smart Grid technology. A task system has been established to develop general approaches and methods for modernizing operating complexes of radio electronic equipment, as well as synthesizing new power supply systems using Smart Grid technologies. The calculation of the energy storage required to compensate for the operation of the radio transmitter has been performed. A method for modernizing the power system of radio engineering research complexes, based on research conducted at the Ionosphere Institute, has been presented. The power supply control system has been synthesized.

In the operating rooms and the intensive care unit, it is crucial to manage the patient’s hemodynamic status, which includes factors like cardiac output and mean arterial pressure. Anesthesiologists confront a difficult task while monitoring high-risk patients. Cardiac output optimization has been found to enhance the result of high-risk patients in terms of hospital stay, mortality rate, post-operative problems, etc. The application of standard control approaches is restricted because the mean arterial pressure response of a patient using vasoactive medicines is modeled by a first-order dynamical system with time-varying parameters and a time-varying delay in the control input. In order to circumvent implementation challenges, this work develops an approximation technique that describes the system using a higher-order model. Predictive control is therefore used to comprehend the practical application of higher-order hemodynamic systems. The effectiveness of this strategy is demonstrated by the simulations and outcomes that are given.

Path planning algorithms are current research hotspots. Heuristic algorithms that can solve dynamic environment problems are gradually becoming the mainstream research direction. The D∗ algorithm, as one of the new heuristic algorithms, has the advantages of being more computationally efficient than the A ∗ algorithm and being able to solve dynamic problems, and has played an important role in two-dimensional path planning projects such as the NASA Mars rover. But its theoretical research and practical application in 3D environment are very rare. In this context, this paper carries out an in-depth study of the path planning problem based on the D∗ algorithm, and completes the theoretical derivation and simulation process in 2D and 3D environments. In this paper, a complex random 2D map is established by random generation, and the simulation of D∗ algorithm is realized on the map with the help of Python language, which realizes the finding of the relative optimal path. Then, in order to study the feasibility of D∗ solving in 3D environment, the simulation of D∗ algorithm under 3D map is realized with the help of Python and Unity3d. The research results show that the simulation results are good, which is valuable for the theoretical research and practical application of heuristic algorithms, and plays a role in the application of robot path planning algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

The article provides the characteristics of the end cable couplings of the closed switchgear 110 kV at the electric steelmaking workshop of the metallurgical plant. The functions of the continuous technical condition monitoring system are substantiated, including continuous temperature monitoring and on-line registration of partial discharges in the insulation. The first function provides monitoring of the operational load, and the second has the maximum sensitivity for diagnosing defect propagation. A functional diagram of the developed intelligent on-line system for monitoring technical condition with digital signal transmission is provided. The choice of sensors and processor unit is justified. The authors consider the temperature control system of high-voltage equipment “WDM-T”, including a wireless sensor and an information receiver. The results of monitoring the thermal regime are provided, the advantages of partial discharge analysis are pointed out. The temperature trends of the end couplings included in the cable line phases are considered. The system is implemented on the closed switchgear 110 kV end couplings, its long-term operation has confirmed the effectiveness of technical condition monitoring. The developed system may be a component of an on-line cyberphysical system for monitoring the condition of high-voltage equipment in the electric steelmaking workshop.

In the work, the structure of an interconnected electrotechnical complex of frequency-regulated electric drives of the mechanisms of grain-throwing machines is proposed to ensure effective overloading of grain with a reduction in its injury. The basic equations for determining the laws governing the grain flight trajectory are presented. The results of research on the influence of various parameters on the flight trajectory (thickness of the grain layer, presence of additional blowing) are given. The obtained results of the study allow us to state that additional blowing ensures a reduction in dispersion, depending on the type of grain and the speed of the conveyor belt of the grain thrower As a result, a regression model was obtained that allows taking into account the main parameters. The simulation results of the proposed electric fan drive system with scalar control with the control algorithm based on the PID structure, calculated according to the frequency criterion, are presented. A functional diagram of the electrical complex of the grain thrower is proposed. The practical application of the proposed system will reduce material damage from injury to the reloaded grain and improve the efficiency of the grain thrower. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, the tracking control problem for networked control system(NCS) under communication delays is investigated. In order to realize the tracking of the NCS, an event-triggered predictive control strategy is provided to compensate for the delays and achieve stability. Both tracking performance and input increments are considered in the proposed cost *** on the incremental inputs, an event-triggered mechanism is established to reduce the communication costs. The efforts of different parameters are illustrated through the results of the simulation, and the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is also validated from the application of the networked lighting setup.

The integration of information technology and control engineering has significantly increased in the research field of clinical practice, including the management of medication dosing for general anesthesia. To achieve effective drug dosing, it is necessary to have appropriate controllers for closed loop control methods. A multitude of control mechanisms have been devised to manage hypnosis, with most of them based on pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK-PD) models. This study presents a novel structure of a fractional order PID controller tuned for inducing hypnosis. The tuning algorithm uses a novel fractional order model instead of the classical PK-PD models. The main goal is to control the Bispectral Index by delivering Propofol during the hypnotic stage of anesthesia. Closed loop simulation results show that the proposed controller manages to ensure little undershoot and time to target for a nominal patient model. Robustness tests are also performed. The analysis shows that the proposed controller is suitable to maintain BIS signal within a safe operating range but fails to meet the time to target requirement for significant patient variability (greater than 2 orders of magnitude). Online adaptation rules are suggested as a solution.

The research field of clinical practice has witnessed a notable increase in the integration of information technology and control systems engineering tools and the paradigm of drug dosing management for general anesthesia is no exception. Progressing from adequate to optimal drug dosing requires suitable models for closed loop control algorithms. High order, complex parameterized models for hypnosis are available but as one cannot measure real drug concentrations, accurate modelling is not possible. Moreover, ethical limitations impose serious restrictions as to the type of excitatory signals acceptable to patient effect response evaluations. This paper proposes an innovative approach to determine fractional order models to compactly represent the dynamics inherent to the hypnosis response. A simplifying assumption is being made: instead of multi-compartmental models, a single transfer model is proposed consisting of a fractional-order dynamic that directly connects Propofol, the administered drug, and the Bispectral (BIS) index, the measure of hypnosis. The proposed model is validated against clinical data and compared to integer order models to prove its suitability. Results suggest the model may be well used with control algorithms for computerized drug dosing management.
