One of the main process operations in the natural gas production and transportation is its cooling after compression to reduce volume. This operation is carried out by air-cooling units (ACU). When controlling the gas temperature at the ACU output, in the control channel, delays occur that noticeably deteriorate the control system performance. Therefore, when synthesizing and building ACS, additional measures are required to improve the system response. As an analysis of the research in this area shows, various controller types, fuzzy logic, neural networks, and other means are used for this purpose. The paper considers the possibility of using predictive ACS based on Smith predictor or Reswick controller to control ACU. Studies have shown that both devices improve the control quality by adjusting parameters such as the attenuation rate and the response time. The degree of the effect of changes in the object parameters by ± 30 % on the control quality has also been studied. Both systems have proven sustainable performance. ACS based on the Reswick controller provides faster response, therefore, it can be recommended for use in winter. © 2020 IEEE.

A new mathematical model is proposed where breaking down of exploited drilling bits is considered to be a consequence of an unbalanced spreading of charges in drilling bit body, which is caused by the difference in interference values of obstruction in each pair "body-pick". Fulfilled modeling allow to make a definition of complicated stress-deformed state of the drilling collet’ body with different number of teeth and different combinations of hole sizes and sizes of teeth using different materials for further production. © 2019 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

Doping titanium dioxide by fluoride ion

Titanium dioxide has a special feature: anatase, to rutile transformation which was considered in our investigations. It is especially important to keep anatase form of titanium dioxide for photocatalytic materials, different ceramics with tribo-chemical properties, self-cleaning coatings and self-sterilizing coatings. For that only one of the titanium dioxide forms is more suitable - anatase, which is more active but not stable, because it transforms to rutile during the time or with the temperature increase loses its activity. Different methods of stabilising anatase have been considered in the paper. Several doping agents have been determined and it was chosen fluorine ion to modify titanium dioxide. Stabilization of anatase is achieved by preparing the reaction mixture by a sol-gel method with hydrofluoric acid. It has shown thermodynamic data, results of experiment, temperatures of anatase to rutile transformation of non-doped and doped titanium dioxide, its X-Ray diffraction and TGA. It is proved that titanium dioxide doped by fluorine ion keeps anatase form till the temperature is more than 1000 °C. © 2019 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

An assessment of the impact of longwall panel width on the height of complete groundwater drainage in underground thick coal seam mining

The main goal of the study is to assess the impact of longwall panel width on both the height of complete groundwater drainage above the coal being mined and water inflows into panel workings. Based on a literature review, the authors summarize the results of studies which have been conducted on the issue under consideration. By calculating the parameters of complete groundwater drainage using methodological approaches and regulatory documents currently available, it is shown that these approaches and documents have major drawbacks which make reliable forecasting of complete groundwater drainage parameters impossible. It is suggested that a numerical method should be used as it permits taking into account both the geometrical parameters of the zone above a longwall panel and the properties of rocks in this zone. The results of a case study using data from the mine named after V. D. Yalevsky are presented and a conclusion is made that increasing longwall panel width would be impractical. © 2020 Mattingley Publishing. All rights reserved.

In connection with the problems of development and implementation of perfect automatic and automated control systems for complex technological processes based on modern information technology tools, the development of research methods for multidimensional nonlinear discrete control systems is of particular relevance. The variety of these systems is due to the types of modulation, non-linearities, modes of operation of impulse elements, characteristics of continuous parts. The article deals with the problems of modeling and research of one-dimensional and multidimensional pulse-frequency systems with delay based on the use of dynamic graphs. One of the key points in solving the problem is an approach based on the maximum consideration of the physical features of these systems. Given the structural complexity of systems, it is necessary first of all to establish the possibility of decomposing the system into simpler subsystems. Then the study of the system can be reduced to the study of individual subsystems and the nature of their interaction, that is, to the determination of the properties of the system as a whole by the properties of its elements. Systems with frequency-pulse modulation are essentially non-linear systems. The topological method based on dynamic graph models allows solving the fundamental difficulties of studying nonlinear discrete systems with delay, allows clearly and strictly formalizing their description, and makes it possible to obtain effective algorithms for analyzing one-dimensional and multidimensional systems of this class. The article presents an example of using the obtained algorithm. © 2022 IEEE.

The paper deals with the problems of grain wounding requires large energy costs, requiring a multi-stage process of grain processing, installation and perfect and reliable automation systems for the storage and processing of raw materials, theoretical and experimental studies and the results of the use of the microwave method in measuring the moisture content of grain and grain materials. The method under consideration is based on the principle of selective absorption of microwave radiation energy by water in materials and its derivatives. By the degree of absorption of radiation, the concentration of moisture is judged. The paper investigates the amplitude and phase methods of the passing wave in free space. The influence of the elastic properties of the material under study on the electrical characteristics of the microwave wave, suggesting fundamentally new ways of measuring the attenuation and phase shift of the electromagnetic wave, including discrete conversion of the signal of the primary converter, which does not require rigid metrological support and the use of a phase shift, is substantiated. Information on the values of the thickness of the material is analyzed in order to correct the influence of this value, consisting of two parameters: the signal of the passing wave, the attenuation and phase shift which characterizes the humidity and the additional signal - the phase wave reflected from the front surface of the materials and carrying information about its thickness. © 2023 IEEE.

The article provides a theoretical analysis of the ultrahigh frequency (microwave) method of humidity measurement, discusses the problems of instrumentation of the method in question, and proposes a scheme of an experimental installation. Bulk cotton materials were selected as the objects of research. The electromagnetic wave radiation is analyzed during measurement and the evaluation of electrophysical characteristics requires the study of the functional dependence of the amplitude and phase shift on the mass ratio of humidity, mathematical models for various bulk cotton materials describing the joint effect of humidity, material density on the attenuation and phase shift of the passing wave are obtained. © 2023 IEEE.

An alternative end product quality control system is proposed for an industrial plant involving a sequence of distillation columns using a multivariable model predictive control (MPC) approach. The latter was realized using the MATLAB toolbox. A controllability analysis using the steady-state controllability metrics is presented and discussed to make a comparison between the currently applied and alternative control systems. Next, obtained results are verified with a closed-loop performance under the set point change. The tests show the advantage of an alternative control structure. Conclusions are drawn about the feasibility of using the proposed approach to manage the quality of the end products. © 2023 IEEE.

The article discusses the theoretical foundations of the design of a single-channel ultrahigh frequency moisture meter with direct measurement of the moisture content of bulk materials. In accordance with the requirements of the methodology for selecting efficiency criteria, it is necessary to develop structural diagrams of measuring devices. For these purposes, the standard deviation of the random error is determined, characterizing the accuracy. It includes the main components: sensitivity error, zero error and additive component. Mathematical models of structures are constructed and the standard deviation of random errors, which are caused by certain parameters and additive fluctuations, is calculated. A single-parameter ultrahigh-frequency method for determining the moisture content is proposed. This method provides high accuracy of a single-channel ultrahigh frequency moisture meter with direct measurement of the moisture content of bulk materials. The measuring device can be used in the agricultural industry, where humidity is one of the important parameters, starting with harvesting and ending with the release of finished products. © 2024 IEEE.
