This paper is concerned with the identification problems of linear parameter varying (LPV) systems with randomly missing output data. Since one local linearized model cannot capture the global dynamics of the nonlinear industrial process, the multiple-model LPV model in which the global model is constructed by smoothly weighted combination of multiple local models is considered here. The problem of missing output variables data is commonly encountered in practice. In order to handle the multiple-model identification problems of LPV systems with incomplete data, the local model is taken to have a finite impulse response (FIR) model structure and the generalized expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm is adopted to estimate the unknown parameters of the global LPV model. To avoid the problems of ill-conditioned matrices and high sensitivity of parameters to noise, the prior information on the coefficients of each local FIR model is employed to construct the prior probability of unknown parameters. Then the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimates of the global model parameters are derived via the generalized EM algorithm. The numerical example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Improvement of the overall efficiency of energy infrastructure is one of the main anticipated benefits of the deployment of smart grid technology. Advancement in energy storage technology and two-way communication in the electric network are indispensable components to achieve such a vision, while efficient pricing schemes and appropriate storage management are also essential. In this paper, we propose a novel pricing scheme which permits one to indirectly control the energy storage devices in the grid to achieve a more desirable aggregate demand profile that meets a particular target of the grid operator such as energy generation cost minimization and carbon emission reduction. Such a pricing scheme can potentially be applied to control the behavior of energy storage devices installed for integration of intermittent renewable energy sources that have permission to grid connection and will have broader applications as an increasing number of novel and low-cost energy storage technologies emerge.

This paper investigates the setpoints compensation for a class of complex industrial processes. Plants at the device layer are controlled by the local regulation controllers, and a multirate output feedback control approach for setpoint compensation is proposed such that the subsystems can reach the dynamically changed setpoints and the given economic objective can also be tracked via certain economic performance index (EPI). First, a sampled-data multivariable direct output feedback proportional integral (PI) controller is designed to regulate the performance of the subsystems. Second, the outputs and control inputs of the plants at the device layer are sampled at operation layer sampling time to form an EPI. Thus the multirate problem is solved by a lifting method. Third, static setpoints are generated by real time optimization (RTO) and the dynamic setpoints are calculated by the compensator according to the error between the EPI and objective at each operation layer step. Finally, a rougher flotation process model is employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The growing requirements of steel products qualities bring even tricky restrictions to the hydraulic cylinder which acts as a screw down to maintain the rolling spaces ***,faults and disfunctions are unavoidable and bring underlying safety *** with un-expected loading is one of major impact that may cause catastrophic consequence happen to the cylinder,as the classical diagnostic process to-some-extent lack of cross-validating and timeconsuming, the paper proposes the potentials of using acoustic emission to fill the *** works include the data acquisition process to record the ultrasound acoustic signals from the hydraulic cylinder,application of modified image based acoustic emission approach to generate visual effects,as well as the application of principal component analysis to project the profiles onto the 3D plane for further *** the analysis of image based profiles,the subtle differences of various cylinder conditions can be examined using the pixel and intensity values. By assessing the projection of profiles in the principal component space,a clear trajectory can be observed with normal and overload conditions allocated upon the positive and negative sides of the *** result provided not only the potential of using acoustic emission for dynamic state identification of the subtle changes,but also opens up the possibility of preventive measures to the cylinder at risks.

In this study interval type-2 fuzzy systems with non-singleton type-2 fuzzifire are used for identification and modeling nonlinear systems having noise with changing domain for fault detection purpose. The main idea in this fault detection method is to serve an upper bound and a lower bound as a confidence bound for system output that obtained from the interval type-2 fuzzy system. If we haven't precise information about mean and variance of noise, then non-singleton type-2 fuzzifire is usable. This fuzzifire improves performance of fault detection confidence bound. In the end of this paper a well-known benchmark two-tank system has been used for representing the advantages of proposed fault detection method.

The bag of visual words model (BoW) and its variants have demonstrate their effectiveness for visual applications and have been widely used by researchers. The BoW model first extracts local features and generates the corresponding codebook, the elements of a codebook are viewed as visual words. The local features within each image are then encoded to get the final histogram representation. However, the codebook is dataset dependent and has to be generated for each image dataset. This costs a lot of computational time and weakens the generalization power of the BoW model. To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose to undo the dataset bias by codebook linear transformation. To represent every points within the local feature space using Euclidean distance, the number of bases should be no less than the space dimensions. Hence, each codebook can be viewed as a linear transformation of these bases. In this way, we can transform the pre-learned codebooks for a new dataset. However, not all of the visual words are equally important for the new dataset, it would be more effective if we can make some selection using sparsity constraints and choose the most discriminative visual words for transformation. We propose an alternative optimization algorithm to jointly search for the optimal linear transformation matrixes and the encoding parameters. Image classification experimental results on several image datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed method. Copyright © 2013 ACM.

In this paper we present a robust and reliable system for interaction with mobile devices using dynamic hand gestures. While other approaches rely on remote computation our system is wearable, lightweight and unobtrusive. It is usable in industrial settings where touch-based interaction is inconvenient and resource efficiency is important. The recognition algorithm is based on Hidden-Markov-Models and optimized for fixed-point arithmetic available in low-cost embedded controllers. The system is highly reliable providing recognition rates significantly higher than the design target of 90 % for an alphabet of 10 gestures. The evaluation of the resulting solution has yielded an effectiveness of 97 % and mean execution times of less than one second. These performance figures are sufficient to consider the presented system an effective and energy efficient alternative to systems that depend on remote computation. It provides autonomous and reliable interaction for single-handed operation of mobile devices in rough industrial settings. © 2012 IADIS.

As vehicle emission standards become more stringent, there is an increasing need for continual monitoring of benzene content in gasoline. Since the on-line analyzers are often unavailable, and laboratory analyses are infrequently obtained, soft sensors for the estimation of benzene content of light reformate are developed. Soft sensors are developed using system identification methods. Experimental data is acquired from the refinery distributed control system (DCS) and include continuously measured variables and analyzer assays available on-line. In the present work, the development of a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) model, an Output Error (OE) model and an Auto-Regressive Model with Exogenous Inputs (ARX) model are presented. To overcome the problem of selecting the best model parameters by trial and error, genetic algorithm was used. Based on developed soft sensors, it is possible to entirely replace on-line analyzers with soft sensors by embedding the model in a DCS on-site. © 2012 MIPRO.

Due to the semantic gap, the low-level features are not able to semantically represent images well. Besides, traditional semantic related image representation may not be able to cope with large inter class variations and are not very ro- bust to noise. To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose a novel image representation method in the sub- semantic space. First, examplar classifiers are trained by separating each training image from the others and serve as the weak semantic similarity measurement. Then a graph is constructed by combining the visual similarity and weak se- mantic similarity of these training images. We partition this graph into visually and semantically similar sub-sets. Each sub-set of images are then used to train classifiers in order to separate this sub-set from the others. The learned sub-set classifiers are then used to construct a sub-semantic space based representation of images. This sub-semantic space is not only more semantically meaningful but also more reli- Able and resistant to noise. Finally, we make categorization of images using this sub-semantic space based representation on several public datasets to demonstrate the e®ectiveness of the proposed method. Copyright © 2013 ACM.

In this paper, we consider the realizability problem of n-port resistive networks containing 2n terminals. A necessary and sufficient condition for any real symmetric matrix to be realizable as the admittance of an n-port resistive network containing 2n terminals is obtained. The condition is based on the existence of a parameter matrix. We then focus on a three-port resistive network containing six terminals. A necessary and sufficient condition is derived for any real symmetric matrix to be realizable as the admittance of a three-port resistive network containing six terminals and at most five positive elements, whose topological structure is properly restricted.
