This paper studies distributed optimal formation control with hard constraints on energy levels and termination time, in which the formation error is to be minimized jointly with the energy cost. The main contributions include a globally optimal distributed formation control law and a comprehensive analysis of the resulting closed-loop system under those hard constraints. It is revealed that the energy levels, the task termination time, the steady-state error tolerance, as well as the network topology impose inherent limitations in achieving the formation control mission. Most notably, the lower bounds on the achievable termination time and the required minimum energy levels are derived, which are given in terms of the initial formation error, the steady-state error tolerance, and the largest eigenvalue of the Laplacian matrix. These lower bounds can be employed to assert whether an energy and time constrained formation task is achievable and how to accomplish such a task. Furthermore, the monotonicity of those lower bounds in relation to the control parameters is revealed. A simulation example is finally given to illustrate the obtained results. The results of theoretical studies and experiments of the developed exhaust ventilation system with direct evaporative air-cooling with using "wet mats"are given. It has shown sufficient efficiency with increasing quality of flower cutting in the summer months. The effect of moisture on the operation of this system was studied. It is established that the heat absorption capacity of air directly depends on its temperature and relative humidity. It is also determined that the temperature of leaves and flowers in summer is usually 2 ÷ 7 °C greater than the air temperature in the greenhouses. In an experimental greenhouse, according to the results of experiments, the effectiveness of the developed installation for evaporative cooling of its operation was determined. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper studies the distributed average tracking problem pertaining to a discrete-time linear time-invariant multi-agent network, which is subject to, concurrently, input delays, random packet-drops, and reference noise. The problem amounts to an integrated design of delay and packet-drop tolerant algorithm and determining the ultimate upper bound of the tracking error between agents' states and the average of the reference signals. The investigation is driven by the goal of devising a practically more attainable average tracking algorithm, thereby extending the existing work in the literature which largely ignored the aforementioned uncertainties. For this purpose, a blend of techniques from Kalman filtering, multi-stage consensus filtering, and predictive control is employed, which gives rise to a simple yet comepelling distributed average tracking algorithm that is robust to initialization error and allows the trade-off between communication/computation cost and stationary-state tracking error. Due to the inherent coupling among different control components, convergence analysis is significantly challenging. Nevertheless, it is revealed that the allowable values of the algorithm parameters rely upon the maximal degree of an expected network, while the convergence speed depends upon the second smallest eigenvalue of the same network's topology. Off-Policy Q-Learning for Anti-Interference control of Multi-Player Systems ⁎

This paper develops a novel off-policy game Q-learning algorithm to solve the anti-interference control problem for discrete-time linear multi-player systems using only data without requiring system matrices to be known. The primary contribution of this paper lies in that the Q-learning strategy employed in the proposed algorithm is implemented in an off-policy policy iteration approach other than on-policy learning due to the well-known advantages of off-policy Q-learning over on-policy Q-learning. All of the players work hard together for the goal of minimizing their common performance index meanwhile defeating the disturbance that tries to maximize the specific performance index, and finally they reach the Nash equilibrium of the game resulting in satisfying disturbance attenuation condition. In order to find the solution to the Nash equilibrium, the anti-interference control problem is first transformed into an optimal control problem. Then an off-policy Q-learning algorithm is proposed in the framework of typical adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) and game architecture, such that control policies of all players can be learned using only measured data. Comparative simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This work studies the control energy for directed networks which are exactly controllable. By employing Jordan transformation, we derive a simplified formula to calculate the control energy of directed networks. We show that the control energy of directed networks is a decreasing function of the terminal time, indicating that the more time to control, the less energy to cost. Additionally, we investigate the control energy for the Price network model. We show that for Price networks the control energy is a decreasing function of network heterogeneity and an increasing function of network size.

We consider the distributed average tracking(DAT) problem for multiple time-varying signals subject to both process and measurement noise under a directed time-varying communication network. In order to attenuate the effect of the noise, we construct a Kalman filter for each agent, based on which we design a discrete-time consensus-based DAT algorithm. It is shown that the proposed algorithm can track the average of the reference signals with small steady-state error. A numerical example is presented to validate the theoretical results.

This paper studies a time-varying unconstrained convex optimization problem under the prediction-correction *** primary objective is to devise a simplified prediction-correction algorithm, which can solve the time-varying unconstrained convex optimization problem effectively without the need to compute the inverse of the Hessian matrix of the cost *** this aim, we propose a simplified prediction step and provide the theoretical analysis on the convergence of the resulting algorithm. The results show that, under suitable conditions, the error bound of our algorithm is O（h）, which is at the same level as those reported in the literature. We demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm by a numerical example.

Monitoring the Moisture Content in Pharmaceutical Batch Fluidized Bed Dryers Using Observer-Based Soft Sensors

Tablet manufacturing in the pharmaceutical industry involves batch fluidized bed drying for particle moisture removal. This paper introduces five approaches for moisture content monitoring, relying either on a complex phenomenological model or its simplified version. The first two soft sensors consist of open-loop estimators, i.e. they simply simulate the models fed by the manipulated variables. Three closed-loop moving horizon estimators based on the simplified model are also proposed for improved robustness. In the first one, the measurements of the inlet gas and particle temperatures feed back the soft sensor. The last two closed-loop observers additionally can take into account infrequent delayed moisture content measurements, such as at-line loss on drying analysis. A validation of the soft sensors is performed with experimental data collected on a pilot scale fluidized bed dryer. Results show that the closed-loop observer with the delayed moisture content measurements still has an accuracy that is equivalent (and sometimes better) than the complex phenomenological model.

This paper describes a data-driven method for system identification of a CO 2 refrigeration system. Traditionally, the interaction between the measured variables is not utilized as they are highly dependent on the refrigeration system. In this work a data-driven method, namely subspace identification, is investigated for deriving a control-oriented model such that the dynamic interaction in the refrigeration systems can be utilized for e.g. fault detection and diagnosis. The subspace identification is applied on laboratory data obtained from a test setup located at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway. The obtained results offer promising perspectives for performance improvement in fault detection and diagnosis methods as well as control strategies.
