The available investigations about quantized average consensus typically assume agents be confined to evolve on balanced digraphs via quantized information exchange, thus the corresponding update matrices are doubly stochastic, which is very restrictive and brings about feasibility problem in practical applications. By dropping the doubly stochastic constraint for the update matrices, this paper studies the consensus seeking for a group of agents on general strongly connected digraphs, where agents' states are communicated (may be unidirectional) through logarithmic quantizer. Under mild assumptions on network topology, we derive an upper bound for the quantization precision to guarantee the weighted average preservation of the whole network.

In this paper, we study the limit set of multi-agent logical system via an algebraic method. We first show that such system can be converted into a linear system through an expansion of space. Then, we discuss the structure properties of system matrix and investigate the relationship between the eigenvalues and the limit set. As an application, the nilpotent problem of elementary cellular automata(ECA) known as algorithmically undecidable is considered, and all the nilpotent ECA are found out which consists of rules 0, 8, 64, 239, 253, 255.

A novel data-driven process monitoring method based on dynamic independent component analysis-principle component analysis (DICA-DPCA) is proposed to compensate for shortcomings in the conventional component analysis based monitoring methods. The primary idea is to first augment the measured data matrix to take the process dynamic into account. Then perform independent component analysis (ICA) and principle component analysis (PCA) on the augmented data to capture both the non-Gaussian and Gaussian process information. Finally, a combined monitoring statistic is proposed by support vector data description (SVDD) with its control limit being determined by bootstrap quantile estimation method to lessen monitoring work-load. The Tennessee Eastman process is used to demonstrate the improved monitoring performance of the proposed mechanism in comparison with existing component analysis based monitoring methods, including PCA, ICA, ICA-PCA, dynamic PCA, and dynamic ICA.

In this paper, we consider the problem that a group of agents aims to compute the average of individually estimated noisy parameters by sharing information among a random network of digital links. In this scenario, the average consensus seeking is involved in a two-step procedure. First, each agent estimates the local time-varying parameters individually, and then agents average their estimations by interaction with neighbors through quantized communication. Impact of quantization on the performance of the proposed distributed algorithm is investigated. We prove that the agents' states converge to a random variable that deviates from the average of the estimated parameters. We derive an upper bound for the asymptotic residual mean square error of the states, which captures effects of the quantization precision and the structure of the random communication networks.

Saturation characteristic exists widely in the real system, and a large number of articles have taken constraint conditions into account during the controller design process. However, relative to the research on the input (actuator) saturation, study on the output (sensor) saturation has not been taken seriously and research results are very little, especially in the aspect of effect on the identification due to the saturation output. In this paper, under the data-driven control system based on online subspace identification and model predictive control (MPC) method, the relationship among the output saturation step, prediction horizon and subspace matrix is obtained, while the change of the system information is unknown because the output signals are locked. Finally, a simulation example is given to demonstrate the correction of the conclusion.

In a traditional anti-windup design, the anti-windup mechanism is set to be activated as soon as the control signal saturates the actuator. A recent innovation of delaying the activation of the anti-windup mechanism, both static and dynamic, until the saturation reaches to a certain level of severity has led to a performance improvement of the resulting closed-loop system. More recently, it has been shown that significant further performance improvements can be obtained by activating a static anti-windup mechanism in anticipation of actuator saturation, in comparison with the delayed activation design. This paper demonstrates that anticipatory activation of a dynamic anti-windup mechanism would also lead to significant performance improvements over both the immediate and delayed activation schemes.

This paper examines robust partially mode de lay dependent H ∞ output feedback controller design for discrete-time systems with random communication delays. A finite state Markov chain with partially known transition probabilities is used to model random communication delays between sensors and controller. Based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, a novel methodology for designing a partially mode delay-dependent output feedback controller is proposed. Using cone complementarity linearization algorithm bilinear matrix inequalities (BMIs) are solved to obtain the controller gains. We also show that the results for completely known transition probabilities and completely unknown transition probabilities can be derived as special cases of our result. The effectiveness of the proposed design methodology is demonstrated by a numer ical example. To the best of authors' knowledge, the problem of designing an output feedback controller for a partially known transition probability has not been fully investigated.

Quantization effects are inevitable in networked control systems (NCSs). These quantization effects can be reduced by increasing the number of quantization levels. However, increasing the number of quantization levels may lead to network congestion, (i.e., the network needs to transfer more information than its capacity). In this paper, we investigate the problem of designing a robust ℋ ∞ output feedback controller for discrete-time networked systems with an adaptive quantization density or limited information. More precisely, the quantization density is designed to be a function of the network load condition which is modeled by a Markov process. A stability criterion is developed by using Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and sufficient conditions for the existence of a dynamic quantized output feedback controller are given in terms of Bilinear Matrix Inequalities(BMIs). An iterative algorithm is suggested to obtain quasi-convex Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) from BMIs. An example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design.

Differential Evolution (DE) is a simple and efficient numerical optimization method. Most DE variants in the literature adopt fixed population size. This paper incorporates into DE the mechanisms of lifetime and extinction which regulate DE's population size in an adaptive manner. The population size is adjusted according to the online progress of fitness improvement. Two schemes of inserting new individuals are proposed to match different mechanisms respectively. The performance of these innovations is examined through the optimization of benchmark problems. The results show that the proposed adaptive population sizing strategy is efficient for improving the convergence and efficiency of the DE. © 2011 Asian control Association.

2-keto-L-gulonic acid (2-KGA), a key precursor in the synthesis of L-ascorbic acid, is produced by mixed fermentation of Bacillus megaterium and Gluconobacter oxydans with L-sorbose as substrate. For such mixed cultivation, the mechanistic modelling is difficult because the interactions between the two strains are not well known yet. Therefore, data-driven modelling is studied in this paper. The rolling learning-prediction (RLP) based on support vector machine (SVM) is practiced to predict the product formation. To satisfy the online application demand, pseudo-on-line prediction is carried out using the data from commercial scale 2-KGA cultivation. The prediction approach receives data in sequence and the historical database of the SVM is updated with statistical analysis of the product formation after the termination of a batch. The robustness of the prediction approach is further tested by adding extra noises to the process variables.
