Entity-based ranking is a popular research area in document ranking as knowledge graphs can introduce additional evidence for ranking systems. In most entity-based ranking framework, the original query is transformed into a set of entities and candidate documents are ranked according to their relevance to the entity set. However, mistakes can easily occur during the transformation process, which introduce noise to the ranking system. This paper represents an expansion-based ranking framework, which expand the original query with high-quality candidate entities to mitigate the impact of transformation mistakes and enrich the semantics of the query in the meanwhile. Compared with existing query expansion methods, our expansion method is lightweight as it reduces much computational burden and requests little extra information. However, the core concerns of the users might be covered up after query expansion. To alleviate this dilemma, a core concern capturing method is pro-posed, wherein the attention weight of each inter-entity relation is measured to capture the core entity pairs in the expanded query. Experiments on the S2-CS dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our lightweight query expansion method and the superiority of our core concern capturing method. Compared with a classical retrieval model, our method provides 11% improvements in terms of NDCG@15. © 2022 IEEE.

Multipath signal recognition is crucial to the ability to provide high-precision absolute-position services by the BeiDou Navigation Satellite system(BDS).However,most existing approaches to this issue involve supervised machine learning(ML)methods,and it is difficult to move to unsupervised multipath signal recognition because of the limitations in signal *** by an autoencoder with powerful unsupervised feature extraction,we propose a new deep learning(DL)model for BDS signal recognition that places a long short-term memory(LSTM)module in series with a convolutional sparse autoencoder to create a new autoencoder ***,we propose to capture the temporal correlations in long-duration BeiDou satellite time-series signals by using the LSTM module to mine the temporal change patterns in the time ***,we develop a convolutional sparse autoencoder method that learns a compressed representation of the input data,which then enables downscaled and unsupervised feature extraction from long-duration BeiDou satellite series ***,we add an l_(1/2) regularizer to the objective function of our DL model to remove redundant neurons from the neural network while ensuring recognition *** tested our proposed approach on a real urban canyon dataset,and the results demonstrated that our algorithm could achieve better classification performance than two ML-based methods(e.g.,11%better than a support vector machine)and two existing DL-based methods(e.g.,7.26%better than convolutional neural networks).

The scarcity of fault samples presents a significant challenge for fault diagnosis in industrial processes. Conventional methods often fail to deliver satisfactory results when dealing with small sample sizes. In addressing the issue of small sample fault diagnosis in industrial processes, this paper utilizes the Variational Mode Reconstruction(VMR) algorithm to screen the best components decomposed by the Variational Mode Decomposition(VMD) through the envelope entropy then random weighting them and signal reconstruction to achieve data enhancement, to enrich the sample size and to prevent the model overfitting phenomenon due to the scarcity of samples. Meanwhile, this paper integrates Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-term Memory Neural Network (LSTM) to propose a network model of spatio-temporal feature fusion for feature extraction and classification. The experiments demonstrate that this model not only enhances data diversity but also ensures consistency before and after enhancement, effectively mitigating overfitting. Furthermore, it guarantees high recognition and generalization rates in fault diagnosis. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, deep learning has made significant progress in medical imaging, deepening the crossover between the medical and industrial fields. However, not all medical images are suitable for deep learning neural networks;simultaneously, some medical images are difficult to collect and preprocess. In this paper, we reconstruct the image information collected by dental clinicians over many years, normalizing it with diagnostic results as the gold standard. On this basis, we explore the applicability and potential of deep learning on complex medical images. Further, we compare the performance of multiple models on this dataset and visualize the learning outcomes, demonstrating that deep learning networks exhibit good learning capabilities on certain images. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In this study, we address the multi-robot path planning problem for tasks specified by linear temporal logic (LTL) formulae. Unlike existing studies, we take into account the possibility of robot failures, where a failed robot can no longer contribute to the completion of the LTL task. Our objective is to find a failure-robust path, which ensures that the LTL task can always be fulfilled, even if a maximum number of robots fail at any point during execution. To achieve this, we extend the mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) approach to the failure-robust setting. To overcome the computational complexity, we identify a fragment of LTL formulae called the free-union-closed LTL, which allows for more scalable synthesis without considering the global combinatorial issue. We present case studies to demonstrate our findings. Our approach provides a novel solution to the problem of multi-robot path planning under robot failures, offering a practical and efficient way to achieve robustness in the face of unforeseen events.

In this paper, we address the problem of failure diagnosis in timed discrete-event systems modeled by timed automata. While existing works on this topic typically focus on failures modeled as particular events, many complex applications, especially time-critical systems, require the ability to identify time-sensitive failures associated with real-time information rather than just the occurrence of events at any time. To address this challenge, we propose the use of metric interval temporal logic (MITL) with continuous semantics on Boolean signals to formally describe time-sensitive failures. We introduce a novel concept called time-sensitive diagnosability (TS-diagnosability) to characterize whether or not any violation of the MITL task (i.e., failure) can be determined within a finite time elapsing. Furthermore, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for verifying TS-diagnosability. Our results offer a more general framework for failure diagnosis of timed discrete-event systems.

Adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) is one of the main methods to solve the optimal control problem of nonlinear systems. Eligibility traces are utilized in recent years to reduce the computing burden of the value function, but the existing fixed eligibility trace is difficult to ensure stable convergence especially when facing environmental changes and complex neural network structures. To solve the above issues, a novel off-policy algorithm, $T$ -HDP $(\lambda)$ with Multiple Time-scale Eligibility Traces (MET), is proposed. By utilizing MET, the new algorithm can adaptively accumulate gradients and include more gradient information, which guides the control faster in the optimal direction. $T$ -step Truncated $\lambda$ -returns are utilized to solve the infinite-horizon optimal control problems, and a new importance sampling ratio is designed to correct the value function. Furthermore, the convergence and boundedness of the algorithm are proved. Based on the actor-critic network architecture, the optimal value function and policy are well approximated. Finally, compared with the original algorithm by a simulation example, the proposed algorithm has a faster convergence speed and lower variance.

Accurate cell classification is crucial but expensive for large-scale single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis. Gene selection (GS) emerges as a pivotal technique in identifying gene subsets of scRNA-seq for classification accuracy improvement and gene scale reduction. Nevertheless, the rising scale of scRNA-seq data presents challenges to existing GS methods regarding performance and computational time. Thus, we propose a surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithm for multiobjective GS to address these deficiencies. An innovative two-phase initialization method is proposed to select sparse solutions to provide preliminary insights into gene contributions. Then, a binary competitive swarm optimizer is proposed for effective global search, where a local search method is embedded to eliminate irrelevant genes for efficiency consideration. Additionally, a surrogate model is adopted to forecast classification accuracy efficiently and substitutes part of the computationally expensive classification process. Experiments are conducted on eight large-scale scRNA-seq datasets with more than 20 000 genes. The effectiveness of the proposed GS method for scRNA-seq cell classification compared with eight state-of-the-art methods is validated. Gene expression analysis results of selected genes further validated the significance of the genes selected by the proposed method in the classification of scRNA-seq data. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

SS-ADA: A Semi-Supervised Active Domain Adaptation Framework for Semantic Segmentation

Semantic segmentation plays an important role in intelligent vehicles, providing pixel-level semantic information about the environment. However, the labeling budget is expensive and time-consuming when semantic segmentation model is applied to new driving scenarios. To reduce the costs, semi-supervised semantic segmentation methods have been proposed to leverage large quantities of unlabeled images. Despite this, their performance still falls short of the accuracy required for practical applications, which is typically achieved by supervised learning. A significant shortcoming is that they typically select unlabeled images for annotation randomly, neglecting the assessment of sample value for model training. In this paper, we propose a novel semi-supervised active domain adaptation (SS-ADA) framework for semantic segmentation that employs an image-level acquisition strategy. SS-ADA integrates active learning into semi-supervised semantic segmentation to achieve the accuracy of supervised learning with a limited amount of labeled data from the target domain. Additionally, we design an IoU-based class weighting strategy to alleviate the class imbalance problem using annotations from active learning. We conducted extensive experiments on synthetic-to-real and real-to-real domain adaptation settings. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. SS-ADA can achieve or even surpass the accuracy of its supervised learning counterpart with only 25% of the target labeled data when using a real-time segmentation model. Short-term load forecasting of buildings plays a key role in demand management, however, when dealing with massive data, the prevalent practice of training and testing the system as a whole overlooks pattern variations inside data and potentially limits predictive performance. To address this issue, this paper proposes an ensemble deep random vector functional link (edRVFL) model that combines adaptive ensemble clustering and dynamic weighting strategy for load forecasting of an industrial building. Firstly, the adaptive ensemble clustering that combines ordering points to identify the clustering structure and K nearest neighbor is employed to determine the electricity load usage patterns. Subsequently, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is applied to adjust the weights of load curves in different typical day scenarios. Finally, a dynamic weighting strategy is designed to dynamically assign model weights to two clusters, where one matches the type of predicted load pattern for the day being forecasted and another for the cluster of the previous day. The experiment in a real building verifies the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, which has higher prediction accuracy than other comparison algorithms including one-week interval and different ensemble clustering. © 2024 IEEE.
