The use of batteries as an energy storage medium has a very important role in the installation of renewable energy power plants, such as photovoltaics to overcome intermittency in photovoltaics and to maintain stable power quality. In this study, the installation of solar plants that was used as the research object was a smart micro grid that integrates photovoltaic electrical energy sources with the Utility electricity network for residential scale. The battery monitoring system is used to manage the performance of existing batteries on the electricity grid through analysis of the battery's electrical values such as current, voltage, power and energy, so that it can function optimally in storing electrical energy and supplying electricity to users. Internet of things (IoT) technology is used to provide easy transfer of data obtained through the process of data acquisition to data visualization provided to be accessed by users in real time. This research aims to develop an IoT-based battery monitoring system. The development carried out focuses on the data acquisition process, the data transfer process using IoT technology, the process of analyzing and visualizing data on the IoT cloud and remote access to users. © 2024 IEEE.

This study delves into the significant role played by Quantum Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (QD-SOAs) in meeting the ever-growing bandwidth demands. QD-SOAs offer a unique blend of cost-effectiveness, integration capabilities, wide bandwidth, rapid responsiveness, robust power output, stability, and spectral adaptability, driving notable advancements in optical communication systems. In this work, we introduce a novel two-wavelength amplifier structure based on Quantum Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (QD-SOAs) that utilizes quantum dots of different sizes to achieve efficient amplification at specific mid-infrared wavelengths. This innovative approach, which incorporates quantum dots with varying sizes, enables enhanced performance by optimizing the amplification process for each specific wavelength. Furthermore, this work demonstrates the use of tailored optical pumping mechanisms that enhance the carrier recovery process and reduce carrier relaxation times in the active region. This novel optical pumping technique leads to a significant increase in the efficiency and speed of the amplifier, distinguishing this study from others in the field. Simulation results provide detailed insights into the complex interplay between carrier interactions and gain spectra, offering a comprehensive understanding of QD-SOA operational dynamics. The proposed Quantum Dot Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (QD-SOA) achieves significant advancements in optical communication, offering maximum amplification rates of 26.9 and 19.9 times for QD1 and QD2, respectively, and bandwidths of 12 THz and 15 THz. The study highlights the role of quantum dot size, homogeneous and inhomogeneous broadening, and optical pumping in enhancing gain and performance, demonstrating the potential of QD-SOAs for high-gain, wide-bandwidth applications in photonic systems. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Blood glucose control in diabetic patients has become one of the main concerns of researchers due to its widespread growth in society in recent years. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, research indicates that individuals who have diabetes have a higher susceptibility to contracting COVID-19 and experiencing more severe complications. This is attributed to a compromised immune system, resulting in a greater number of fatalities compared to individuals without diabetes. Therefore, the desired controller for blood glucose regulation should be very stable against hypoglycemia and perturbations such as meals, noise, and uncertainty, such as the pancreas of a healthy person. The metabolic disorders that cause diabetes in people are covered first in this article. Then Reinforcement Learning will be introduced as one of the machine learning methods to control the blood glucose concentration, and its robustness in the presence of disturbance will be investigated. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper discusses a proposed fiber-optic sensor that was based on the combination of the material called polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) and a fiber Bragg grating (FBG). The practical experiments were conducted under laboratory conditions with a group of 6 volunteers. The data were compared with conventional electrocardiogram (ECG) and processed using a Bland-Altman method. The results described in this paper show that the 3D printing technique can be used for encapsulating the FBG and for the purpose of biomedical engineering. © 2023 SPIE.

Apple trees are an agricultural commodity with high economic value that often face serious challenges due to various leaf diseases. Early detection and proper treatment are crucial to reducing economic losses and ensuring healthy plant growth. Manual methods for detecting apple leaf diseases tend to be time-consuming and require specialized expertise, making them difficult to apply on a large scale. This study aims to develop an automatic classification system based on image processing to detect apple leaf diseases by combining Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) algorithms. ELM offers high training speed with randomly assigned weights, while LDA performs dimensionality reduction to retain the most relevant features, thereby improving model performance. The study results indicate that the combination of ELM and LDA produces a model capable of classifying apple leaf diseases with an accuracy of 92.50%, an improvement of 6.25% compared to using ELM alone. This demonstrates that the model is highly effective in classifying apple leaf diseases. © 2024 IEEE.

This article presents a description of research that has led to the development of a new design permanent magnet machine. The machine is based on the operational principle of the transverse-flux machine (TFM). In the proposed solution, a core commonly used in radial flux machines was employed, significantly simplifying the construction of the TFM machine. This simultaneously reduces flux leakage and enhances the value of the developed electromagnetic torque. The article sequentially outlines the stages of research on the new design, ranging from analytical calculations through Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation to the construction of a machine prototype. © 2024 IEEE.

Wireless communications are particularly vulnerable to eavesdropping attacks due to their broadcast nature. To effectively deal with eavesdroppers, existing security techniques usually require accurate channel state information (CSI), e.g., for friendly jamming (FJ), and/or additional computing resources at transceivers, e.g., cryptography-based solutions, which unfortunately may not be feasible in practice. This challenge is even more acute in low-end IoT devices. We thus introduce a novel deep learning-based FJ framework that can effectively defeat eavesdropping attacks with imperfect CSI and even without CSI of legitimate channels. In particular, we first develop an autoencoder-based communication architecture with FJ, namely, AEFJ, to jointly maximize the secrecy rate and minimize the block error rate (BLER) at the receiver without requiring perfect CSI of the legitimate channels. In addition, to deal with the case without CSI, we leverage the mutual information neural estimation (MINE) concept and design a MINE-based FJ scheme that can achieve comparable security performance to the conventional FJ methods that require perfect CSI. Extensive simulations in a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system demonstrate that our proposed solution can effectively deal with eavesdropping attacks in various settings. Moreover, the proposed framework can seamlessly integrate MIMO security and detection tasks into a unified end-to-end learning process. This integrated approach can significantly maximize the throughput and minimize the BLER, offering a good solution for enhancing communication security in wireless communication systems. © 2014 IEEE.

This study scrutinizes five years of Sarajevo's Air Quality Index (AQI) data using diverse machine learning models - Fourier autoregressive integrated moving average (Fourier ARIMA), Prophet, and Long short-term memory (LSTM) - to forecast AQI levels. Focusing on various prediction frames, we evaluate model performances and identify optimal strategies for different temporal granularities. Our research unveils subtle insights into each model's efficacy, shedding light on their strengths and limitations in predicting AQI across varied timeframes. This research presents a robust framework for automatic optimization of AQI predictions, emphasizing the influence of temporal granularity on prediction accuracy, automatically selecting the most efficient models and parameters. These insights hold significant implications for data-driven decision-making in urban air quality control, paving the way for proactive and targeted interventions to improve air quality in Sarajevo and similar urban environments. © 2024 IEEE.

Microgrids (MGs) serve as central interfaces for distributed generation, predominantly employing voltage source inverters (VSIs). These MGs operate in either autonomous or grid-connected modes, facilitating local power generation and storage. However, autonomous MGs, lacking grid support, are susceptible to instability, particularly with multiple generators sharing power. This paper addresses instability challenges in VSI-based MGs through comprehensive system modeling, analysis, and design. A novel approach is proposed, employing a modified virtual inertia PID droop control with virtual impedance, facilitates swift response to frequency and voltage fluctuations, ensuring precise power allocation among paralleled VSIs. Moreover, this paper presents the small signal analysis of the PID droop control and outlines the secondary control design, encompassing DDSRF-PLL, frequency, and voltage restoration loops. System validation is conducted through MATLAB/Simulink modeling and experimental verification on a hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) testbench, confirming the efficacy of the proposed methodologies in low inertia MGs. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a square coaxial transmission line that is partially filled with 3-D printing low-cost insulator. The proposed coaxial line is composed of two metal conductors and 3D printing insulator. To reduce the dielectric loss, the space between two conductors is partially filled with 3-D printing insulator. Herein, the insulator is the resin whose cost is lower than conventional PTFE, and the relative permittivity and loss tangent are measured first. Then, the guide-wave characteristic of the proposed transmission line is studied. Finally, a transmission line with two transitions is designed and simulated to verify the analysis. © 2024 IEEE.
