Acoustic techniques have been developed as multifunctional tools for various microscale manipulations. In prevalent design paradigms, a position-fixed piezoelectric transducer (PZT) is utilized to generate ultrasound waves. However, the immobility of the PZT restricts the modulation of the acoustic field's position and orientation, consequently diminishing the adaptability and effectiveness of subsequent acoustic micromanipulation tasks. Here, we proposed a miniaturized soft acoustic end-effector and demonstrated acoustic field modulation and microparticle manipulation by adjusting PZT position and orientation. The PZT is mounted on the end of a soft robotic arm that has three individual degrees of freedom and can be deformed in 3D space by inflating or deflating each chamber. Experiments showed that the soft acoustic end-effector can change the traveling direction of microparticles and modulate the location of a standing wave field. Our approach is simple, flexible, and controllable. We envision that the soft acoustic end-effector will facilitate multiscale acoustic manipulation in interdisciplinary applications, especially, for in vivo acoustic therapies.

Yeast has been an indispensable host for synthesizing complex plant-derived naturalcompounds, yet the yields remained largely constrained. This limitation mainly arises from overlookingthe importance of cell and pathway suitability during the optimization of enzymes and pathways. Herein,beyond conventional enzyme engineering, we dissected metabolic suitability with a framework forsimultaneously augmenting cofactors and carbon flux to enhance the biosynthesis of heterogenoustriterpenoids. We further developed phospholipid microenvironment engineering strategies, dramaticallyimproving yeast’s suitability for the high performance of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-localized, ratelimitingplant P450s. Combining metabolic and microenvironment suitability by manipulating only threegenes, NHMGR (NADH-dependent HMG-CoA reductase), SIP4 (a DNA-binding transcription factor)andGPP1 (Glycerol-1-phosphate phosphohydrolase 1), we enabled the high-level production of 4.92 g/L rarelicorice triterpenoids derived from consecutive oxidation of b-amyrin by two P450 enzymes afterfermentation optimization. This production holds substantial commercial value, highlighting the criticalrole of establishing cell suitability in enhancing triterpenoid biosynthesis and offering a versatileframework applicable to various plant natural product biosynthetic pathways.

Flexible loudspeakers that can be easily distributed in the surrounding environment are essential for creating immersive experiences in human-machine interactions,as these devices can transmit acoustic information *** this paper,we present a flexible electret loudspeaker that offers numerous benefits,such as eco-friendly,easy fabrication,flexible customization,strong durability,and excellent *** output sound pressure level(SPL)and frequency response characteristic are optimized according to the simulation and experiment *** a distance of 50 meters,a large-size loudspeaker(50×40 cm^(2))can produce an average SPL of 60 dB(normal SPL range of human voices is between 40 to 70 dB).The frequency response of our loudspeaker is high and relatively consistent up to 15 kHz,which covers the normal frequency range of human voices(<8 kHz).As demonstrated in this work,our loudspeakers can be used for scalable applications,such as being integrated with curtains or hung up like posters,offering a promising and practical solution for creating better human-machine interaction experiences.
