Distribution of land stability based on standard penetration value (SPT) with various depth in Semarang city, Indonesia

Land stability is one of the main determining factors for the bearing capacity of the environment. The land stability is influenced by the condition and characteristics of the resources in the environment. The supply capacity in terms of the level of land stability for spatial use allocation has been based on the capacity of land for agriculture and the physical aspects of the land. It accordance with the local regulation i.e. no. 17 of 2009. Land stability includes the ability of land for agriculture and the physical aspects of land, as well as the stratigraphy of subsurface soil mass, especially geological characteristic. The research was conducted in Semarang City Indonesia by drilling and standard penetration test (SPT) and taking 448 undisturbed samples (UDS's) of soil that scattered in the research area. Analysis of UDS's have been carried out in the laboratory to obtain comparisons with SPT values in determining the level of land stability both vertically and horizontally. Soil types obtained are clay, silt, silt-sand, sand, and sand stone with a level of consistency and density in accordance with the measured SPT. Land stability values ranged from 0.201 kg/cm2-14.248 kg/cm2 covering all types of soil with different consistencies and density. The distribution of land stability is given in an infographic to get an overview of the land stability levels geographically at a depth of 2.5m, 5.0m, 7.5m, and 10.0m. This infographic can be useful for spatial evaluation, engineering guidance, and environmental research in Semarang City, Indonesia.

A deep potential model with long-range electrostatic interactions

Machine learning models for the potential energy of multi-atomic systems, such as the deep potential (DP) model, make possible molecular simulations with the accuracy of quantum mechanical density functional theory, at a cost only moderately higher than that of empirical force fields. However, the majority of these models lack explicit long-range interactions and fail to describe properties that derive from the Coulombic tail of the forces. To overcome this limitation we extend the DP model by approximating the long-range electrostatic interaction between ions (nuclei+core electrons) and valence electrons with that of distributions of spherical Gaussian charges located at ionic and electronic sites. The latter are rigorously defined in terms of the centers of the maximally localized Wannier distributions, whose dependence on the local atomic environment is modeled accurately by a deep neural network. In the deep potential long-range (DPLR) model, the electrostatic energy of the Gaussian charge system is added to short-range interactions that are represented as in the standard DP model. The resulting potential energy surface is smooth and possesses analytical forces and virial. Missing effects in the standard DP scheme are recovered, improving on accuracy and predictive power. By including long-range electrostatics, DPLR correctly extrapolates to large systems the potential energy surface learned from quantum mechanical calculations on smaller systems. We illustrate the approach with three examples, the potential energy profile of the water dimer, the free energy of interaction of a water molecule with a liquid water slab, and the phonon dispersion curves of the NaCl crystal. © 2021, CC BY.

Molecules with nonplanar architectures are highly desirable due to their unique topological structures and functions. We report here the synthesis of two molecular containers ( 1 ⋅ 3Br − and 1 ⋅ 3Cl − ), which utilize intramolecular cation-π interactions to enforce macrocylic arrangements and exhibit high binding affinity and luminescent properties. Remarkably, the geometry of the cation-π interaction can be flexibly tailored to achieve a precise ring arrangement, irrespective of the angle of the noncovalent bonds. Additionally, the C−H⋅⋅⋅Br − hydrogen bonds within the container are also conducive to stabilizing the bowl-shaped conformation. These bowl-shaped conformations were confirmed both in solution through NMR spectroscopy and in the solid state by X-ray studies. 1 ⋅ 3Br − shows high binding affinity and selectivity: F − >Cl − , through C−H ⋅⋅⋅ X − (X=F, Cl) hydrogen bonds. Additionally, these containers exhibited blue fluorescence in solution and yellow room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) in the solid state. Our findings illustrate the utility of cation-π interactions in designing functional molecules.

The prototype Large-Sized Telescope (LST-1) of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) is in commissioning phase at the Observatorio del Roque de Los Muchachos at 2200 m a.s.l. in La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain). LST-1 is a 23-m diameter telescope and is the first of four that will compose the LST part of the CTAO Northern array. The LST subarray is optimized to provide the best sensitivity for gamma rays in the 20 GeV - 200 GeV energy range. The MAGIC telescopes, which are located approximately 100 m from the LST-1, is operating as a two 17-m telescope stereoscopic system for more than 14 years. LST-1 and MAGIC routinely perform joint observations of gamma-ray sources to exploit the potential of the three-telescope system. This contribution describes the analysis pipeline and evaluates the performance of the system using Monte Carlo simulations and data on the Crab Nebula. The sensitivity achieved during joint observations with MAGIC and LST-1 is about 30% higher than that of MAGIC alone. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

Background: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) risk is highly heritable, with potential additional non-genetic factors, such as prenatal exposure to ambient particulate matter with aerodynamic diameterObjectives: This study examined interactions between MIA and prenatal PM2.5 or major PM2.5 components on ASD ***: In a population-based pregnancy cohort of children born between 2001-2014 in Southern California, 318,751 mother-child pairs were followed through electronic medical records (EMR);4,559 children were diagnosed with ASD before age 5. Four broad categories of MIA were classified, including infection, hypertension, maternal asthma, and autoimmune conditions. Average exposures to PM2.5 and four PM2.5 components, black carbon (BC), organic matter (OM), nitrate (NO3−), and sulfate (SO42−), were estimated at maternal residential addresses during pregnancy. We estimated the ASD risk associated with MIA, air pollution, and their interactions, using Cox regression models to adjust for ***: ASD risk was associated with MIA [infection (hazard ratio 1.11;95% confidence interval 1.05-1.18), hypertension (1.30;1.19-1.42), maternal asthma (1.22;1.08-1.38), autoimmune disease (1.19;1.09-1.30)], and with higher pregnancy PM2.5 [1.07;1.03-1.12 per interquartile (3.73 μg/m3) increase] and all four PM2.5 components. However, there were no interactions of each MIA category with PM2.5 or its components on either multiplicative or additive ***: MIA and pregnancy PM2.5 had independent associations with ASD risk. Our findings do not support the hypothesis that ASD risk in children is associated with synergistic effects of MIA during pregnancy and ambient prenatal air pollution. © 2023, The Authors. Improving lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) safety remains in a challenging task when compared with the tremendous progress made in their performance in recent years. Embedding thermo-responsive polymer switching materials (TRPS) into LIB cells has been proved to be a promising strategy to provide consistent thermal abuse protections at coin-cell level. However, it is unrealistic to achieve large-scale applications without further demonstration in high-capacity pouch cells. Here, we employed tungsten carbide (WC) as a novel conductive filler, and successfully overcame the intrinsic processing difficulty of polyethylene (PE) matrix in a scalable solvent-based method to obtain ultra-thin, uniform, highly conductive TRPS. Moreover, by integrating TRPS directly into LIB electrodes, no extra fabrication facilities or processes are required for making the cells. As a result, multi-layer pouch cells with consistent electrochemical performance and thermal abuse protection function were fabricated using industry relevant manufacturing technique, which brings TRPS one step further to the real application scenarios. © 2021, CC BY.

Rechargeable sodium/chlorine (Na/Cl 2 ) batteries are emerging candidates for sustainable energy storage owing to their superior energy densities and the high abundance of Na and Cl elements. However, their practical applications have been plagued by the poor rate performance (e.g., a maximum discharge current density of 150 mA g −1 ), as the widely used carbon nanosphere cathodes show both sluggish electron-ion transport and reaction kinetics. Here, by mimicking the sufficient mass and energy transport in a sponge, we report a bicontinuous-structured carbon cubosome with heteroatomic doping, which allows efficient Na + and electron transport and promotes Cl 2 adsorption and conversion, thus unlocking ultrahigh-rate Na/Cl 2 batteries, e.g., a maximum discharge current density of 16,000 mA g −1 that is more than two orders of magnitude higher than previous reports. The optimized solid–liquid–gas (carbon–electrolyte–Cl 2 ) triple interfaces further contribute to a maximum reversible capacity and cycle life of 2,000 mAh g −1 and 250 cycles, respectively. This study establishes a universal approach for improving the sluggish kinetics of conversion-type battery reactions, and provides a new paradigm to resolve the long-standing dilemma between high energy and power densities in energy storage devices.

DNA origami, a promising branch of structural DNA technology, refers to the technique of folding a single-stranded DNA scaffold into well-defined nanostructures. In recent years, DNA origami nanostructures have shown considerable promise in a variety of biomedical applications, owing to their biodegradability, unique programmability, and addressability. Despite their popularity, the biomedical application of DNA origami techniques, which exploits their unique programmability and addressability, is rare in previous studies. Most recently, mounting evidence has demonstrated the robustness of DNA origami nanostructures in the spatial organization of functional components at the nanoscale in the biomedical field. These examples provide typical paradigms to fully realize the potential of DNA origami techniques by taking advantage of their unique programmability and addressability. This minireview summarizes the recent advancements of DNA origami techniques in biosensing, biocatalysis, and drug delivery, and the representative examples using DNA origami nanostructures for the spatial organization of functional molecules with nanometric precision are highlighted. We further discuss the possible limitations and challenges for in vivo applications, including stability issues and potential immunogenicity, and finally, propose some strategies to overcome these obstacles to fully realize the potential of DNA origami techniques in biomedical applications. © 2023 The Authors. Circular RNA (circRNA) is a class of noncoding RNA with regulatory potentials. Its role in the transdifferentiation of prostate and lung adenocarcinoma into neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC) remains unexplored. Here, we identified circRMST as an exceptionally abundant circRNA predominantly expressed in NEPC and SCLC, with strong conservation between humans and mice. Functional studies using shRNA, siRNA, CRISPR-Cas13, and Cas9 consistently demonstrate that circRMST is essential for tumor growth and the expression of ASCL1, a master regulator of neuroendocrine fate. Genetic knockout of Rmst in NEPC genetic engineered mouse models prevents neuroendocrine transdifferentiation, maintaining tumors in an adenocarcinoma state. Mechanistically, circRMST physically interacts with lineage transcription factors NKX2-1 and SOX2. Loss of circRMST induces NKX2-1 protein degradation through autophagy-lysosomal pathway and alters the genomic binding of SOX2, collectively leading to the loss of ASCL1 transcription. © 2025 The Author(s)
