Mitophagy, particularly in the context of drugs that disrupt mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), represents a critical focus in pharmacology. However, the discovery and evaluation of MMP-disrupting drugs are often hampered using commercially available marker molecules that target similar or identical zones. These markers can significantly interfere with, obscure, or amplify the functional effects of MMP-targeting drugs, frequently leading to clinical failures. In response to this challenge, we propose a “one-two punch” drug design strategy that integrates both target-zone drug functionality and non-target zone biological reporting within a single small-molecule drug. We have developed a novel proof-of-concept mitophagy self-check drug ( MitoSC ) that exhibits dual-color and dual-localization properties. The functional component of this system is a variable MitoSC that disrupts mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) homeostasis, thereby inducing mitophagy. Upon activation, this component transforms into a blue-fluorescent monomer ( MitoSC-fun ) specifically within the mitochondrial target zone. Concurrently, the biological reporting component is represented by a red-fluorescent monomer ( MitoSC-rep ) that localizes to lysosomes, the non-target zone. As mitophagy progresses, the fluorescent signals from MitoSC-rep (lysosomes) and MitoSC-fun (mitochondria) converge, enabling real-time monitoring of the mitophagic process. This strategy combines potent drug functionality with robust biological reporting, thereby minimizing interference and eliminating the complexities associated with external detection. Our findings underscore the potential of a single-molecule drug to exert target-zone specific actions while simultaneously providing non-target zone self-checking, offering a new perspective for drug design.

Computer simulations of model systems are widely used to explore striking phenomena in promising applications spanning from physics, chemistry, biology, to materials science and engineering. The long range electrostatic interactions between charged particles constitute a prominent factor in determining structures and states of model systems. How to effciently calculate electrostatic interactions in model systems subjected to partial or full periodic boundary conditions has been a grand challenging task. In the past decades, a large variety of computational schemes have been proposed, among which the Ewald summation method is the most reliable route to accurately deal with electrostatic interactions in model systems. In addition, extensive effort has been done to improve computational effciency of the Ewald summation based methods. Representative examples are approaches based on cutoffs, reaction fields, multi-poles, multi-grids, and particle-mesh schemes. We sketched an ENUF method, an abbreviation for the Ewald summation method based on Non-Uniform fast Fourier transform technique, and have implemented this method in particlebased simulation packages to calculate electrostatic energies and forces at microand mesoscopic levels. Extensive computational studies of conformational properties of polyelectrolytes, dendrimer-membrane complexes, and ionic uids demonstrated that the ENUF method and its derivatives conserve both energy and momentum to oating point accuracy, and exhibit a computational complexity of O(N logN) with optimal physical parameters. These ENUF based methods are attractive alternatives in molecular simulations where high accuracy and effciency of simulation methods are needed to accelerate calculations of electrostatic interactions at extended spatiotemporal scales. Cassava starch industry is one of the leading small-medium enterprises (SMEs) in Pati Regency. Cassava starch industry released waste that reduces the quantity of final product and potentially contamined the environment. This study was conducted to observe the feasibility of good housekeeping implementation to reduce waste and at the same time improve efficiency of production process. Good housekeeping opportunities are consideration by three aspect, technical, economy and environmental. Good housekeeping opportunities involved water conservation and waste reduction. These included reuse of water in washing process, improving workers awareness in drying section and packaging section. Implementation of these opportunities can reduce water consumption, reduce wastewater and solid waste generation also increased quantity of final product. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP sciences.

Sugar is one of the main commodities that are needed for human life. The demand of sugar is very high with the trend increase from year to year. This condition makes the sugar industry become a leading industry that must be maintained sustainability. The sustainability of the sugar industry is influenced by the use of energy and natural resources and the resulting environmental impacts. Therefore, an effort is needed to analyze the environmental aspects and potential environmental impacts resulting from a product (sugar), by using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). LCA is a very important tool for the analysis of a process/system from its cradle to grave. This technique is very useful in the estimation of energy usage and environmental load of a product/system. There are limited options for primary prevention of breast cancer (BC). Experimental procedures to locally prevent BC have shown therapeutic efficacy in animal models. To determine the suitability of FDA-approved iodine-containing and various metal-containing (bismuth, gold, iodine, or tantalum) preclinical nanoparticle-based contrast agents for image-guided intraductal (ID) ablative treatment of BC in rodent models, we performed a prospective longitudinal study to determine the imaging performance, local retention and systemic clearance, safety profile, and compatibility with ablative solution of each contrast agent. At least six abdominal mammary glands (>3 female FVB/JN mice and/or Sprague-Dawley rats, 10-11 weeks of age) were intraductally injected with commercially available contrast agents (Omnipaque 300, Fenestra VC, MVivoTM Au, MVivoTM BIS) or in-house synthesized tantalum oxide (TaOx) nanoparticles. Contrast agents were administered at stock concentration or diluted in 70% ethanol (EtOH) and up to 1% ethyl cellulose (EC) as gelling agent to assess their compatibility with our image-guided ablative procedure. Mammary glands were serially imaged by microCT for up to 60 days after ID delivery. Imaging data were analyzed by radiologists and deep learning to measure in vivo signal disappearance of contrast agents. Mammary glands and major organs were ultimately collected for histopathological examination. TaOx-containing solutions provided best imaging performance for nitid visualization of ductal tree immediately after infusion, low outward diffusion (<1 day) and high homogeneity. Of all nanoparticles, TaOx had the highest local clearance rate (46% signal decay as stock and 36% as ablative solution 3 days after ID injection) and exhibited low toxicity. TaOx-containing ablative solution with 1% EC caused same percentage of epithelial cell death (88.62% ± 7.70% vs. 76.38% ± 9.99%, value = 0.089) with similar minimal collateral damage (21.56 ± 5.28% vs. 21.50% ±

Safety Data Sheet (SDS) gave important information for safe chemicals handling and widely used in communicating chemical hazards. Laboratory as one of the places associated with the consumption of a number of chemicals, then the worker in laboratory have to know the information chemicals used. The purpose of this research is to know the perception and understanding of workers in a laboratory toward SDS. The quantitative research was used and the collect data by questionnaire using Likert scale, then analyzed descriptively. The total sample of data was twenty-seven of laboratory worker people. The finding from this study showed that a great majority of people agree SDS has benefits for workers in the laboratory, agree the SDS should be available in the workplace, feel the need to know the contents of the SDS, but not so many people agree 'I access SDS while working using chemicals' and great majority of people feel 'I obtained chemical information other than SDS'. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP sciences.

In terms of global water scarcity, the water footprint is an indicator of the use of water resources that given knowledge about the environmental impact of consuming a product. The sustainable use of water resources nowadays bring challenges related to the production and consumption phase of water intensive related goods such as in the agro-industry. The objective of the study was to assessment the total water footprint from soy sauce production in Grobogan Regency. The total water footprint is equal to the sum of the supply chain water footprint and the operational water footprint. The assessment is based on the production chain diagram of soy sauce production which presenting the relevant process stages from the source to the final product. The result of this research is the total water footprint of soy sauce production is 1.986,35 L/kg with fraction of green water 78,43%, blue water 21,4% and gray water 0,17%. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP sciences.

Oil and gas exploration and production are two of the activities that potentially cause pollution and environmental damage. The largest waste generated from this activity is produced water. Produced water contains hazardous pollutants of both organic and inorganic materials, so that the produced water of oil and gas production cannot be discharged directly to the environment. Uncontrolled discharge can lead to the environmental damage, killing the life of water and plants. The produced water needs to be handled and fulfill the quality standards before being discharged to the environment. Several studies to reduce the contaminants in the produced water were conducted by researchers. Among them were gravity based separation-flotation, separation technique based on filtration, and biological process treatment. Therefore, some of these methods can be used as an alternative waste handling of produced water. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP sciences.

Recently, air pollution has become more serious and started to have a dramatic effect on the health of humans in many large cities. Generally, outdoor personal protection,such as commercial masks, cannot effectively prevent the inhalation of many pollutants. Particulate matter(PM) pollutants are a particularly serious threat to human health. Here we introduce a new efficient air filtration mat that can be used for outdoor protection. The new efficient air filter’s nanocomposite materials were successfully fabricated from poly(ε-caprolactone)/polyethylene oxide(PCL/PEO) using an electrospinning technique and solvent vapor annealing(SVA).SVA treatment endows the wrinkled fiber surface and enhances the PM2.5 capture capacity of protective masks. This nanowrinkled air filtration mat can effectively filter PM2.5 with a removal efficiency of 80.01% under seriously polluted conditions(PM2.5 particle concentration above 225 mg m-3).Our field test in Qinhuangdao indicated that the air filtration mat had a high PM2.5 removal efficiency under thick *** to commercial masks, the fabricated SVA-treated PCL/PEO air filter mat demonstrated a simpler and ecofriendly preparation process with excellent degradation characteristics, showing wide potential applications with a high filtration efficiency.

Despite the exceptionally high energy density of lithium metal anodes, the practical application of lithium-metal batteries (LMBs) is still impeded by the instability of the interphase between the lithium metal and the electrolyte. To formulate a functional electrolyte system that can stabilize the lithium-metal anode, the solvation behavior of the solvent molecules must be understood because the electrochemical properties of a solvent can be heavily influenced by its solvation status. We unambiguously demonstrated the solvation rule for the solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) enabler in an electrolyte system. In this study, fluoroethylene carbonate was used as the SEI enabler due to its ability to form a robust SEI on the lithium metal surface, allowing relatively stable LMB cycling. The results revealed that the solvation number of fluoroethylene carbonate must be ≥1 to ensure the formation of a stable SEI in which the sacrificial reduction of the SEI enabler subsequently leads to the stable cycling of LMBs. © 2020 Wiley-VCH GmbH
