Predictive functional control (PFC) is the simplest model-based algorithm, equipped with the attributes of a fully fledged predictive controller but at the cost and complexity threshold of a standard PID regulator. It has proven benefits in controlling stable SISO dynamic systems, but similarly to its competitor PID, it loses efficacy when a challenging application is introduced. In this paper, we present a modified PFC approach, especially tailored for open-loop unstable processes, using pre-stabilisation to efficiently control the undesirable dynamics at hand. This is essentially a two-stage design scheme with implications for PFC tuning and constraint handling. The proposal, nevertheless, is straightforward and intuitive, and provides improved closed-loop control in the presence of external perturbations against the standard PFC, and significantly better performance overall compared to the common PID algorithm, as demonstrated in a numerical case-study.

The paper addresses the problem of transforming single-output nonlinear state equations affine in disturbance into an extended observer form whose nonlinear injection part depends additionally on the derivatives of the output up to a finite order. Moreover, the considered form is affine in disturbance. Based on the earlier results a detailed algorithm is given and applied to the model of a synchronous machine connected to an infinite bus. For the system in the extended observer form a reduced-order Kalman-filter based observer can be designed such that its error dynamics is exponentially attractive and it is stable in the input-to-state sense with respect to the disturbance.

This study integrated an improved equivalent-input-disturbance (EID) and a repetitive control methods to ensure reference tracking and enhance disturbance-rejection performance for a pedaling rehabilitation robot. A repetitive controller ensures steady-state tracking of a periodic reference input. An EID estimator with a state observer estimates and compensates for the effect of disturbances generated by patients with lower-limb impairment. The stability condition of the closed-loop system is analyzed based on the Lyapunov stability theory. Simulation results show the effectiveness of this method.

This paper designs a data-driven controller for unknown linear systems whose actuators suffer from false data injection (FDI) attacks, using only noisy input-state data. To achieve this objective, a general FDI attack model is introduced, which imposes constraints only on the switching frequency of attack channels and the magnitude of attack matrices. A time-varying state feedback control law is designed based on offline and online input-state data, which adapts to the channel switching of FDI attacks. This is achieved by solving a data-based semi-definite programs (SDPs) on-the-fly such that stabilizing the set of subsystems consistent with both offline clean data and online attack-corrupted data. It is shown that under mild conditions on the attack and the noise, the feasibility of the proposed SDP guarantees that the controller stabilizes the attack-corrupted system. A numerical example is presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
