High phosphate removal using La(OH)3 loaded chitosan based composites and mechanistic study

Our present study was to prepare a biomass-supported adsorbents with high adsorptive capacity and high selectivity to prevent the accelerated eutrophication in water *** this end,different metal hydroxide(La,Zr and Fe)first was successfully loaded on chitosan *** the quaternary ammonium group with different content was introduced into the adsorbent by *** comparison of adsorption properties,chitosanLa(OH)3-quaternary ammonium-20%(CS-La-N-20%)has strong adsorption to phosphate(160 mg/g)by immobilizing nano-sized La(OH)3 within a quaternary-aminated chitosan and it maintain high adsorption in the presence of salt *** pH results indicated that the CS-La-N-20%would effectively sequestrate phosphate over a wide pH range between 3 and 7 without significant La3+***’s more,adsorption capacity on the introduce of positively charged quanternary-aminated groups was significantly higher than that of the unmodified adsorbents at alkaline *** column adsorption capacity reached 1300 bed volumes(BV)when phosphate concentration decreased until 0.5 mg/L at 6 BV/*** column adsorption/desorption reveals that no significant capacity loss is observed,indicating excellent stability and repeated use *** revealed that phosphate adsorption on CS-La-N-20%through ligand exchange(impregnated nano-La(OH)3)and electrostatic attraction(positively charged quanternary-aminated groups).All the results suggested that CS-La-N-20%can serve as a promising adsorbent for preferable phosphate removal in realistic application.

Perovskite solar cells(PSCs)exhibit significant development potential in the last decade due to their high efficiency and low manufacturing cost,with power conversion efficiencies(PCE)as high as 26.1％.How-ever,several problems still limit PSCs'performance and industrialization,including layer defects,energy level mismatch,and chemical *** are a promising class of two-dimensional(2D)tran-sition metal carbides and nitrides with excellent hydrophilicity,the tunable figure of merit,desirable electrical conductivity,abundant surface chemical end groups,and low-temperature solution *** properties make MXenes easy to combine with other materials and enrich their composites'physical and chemical properties,making them more useful in *** review systematically summa-rizes the relationship and development of PSCs and *** strategies for combining MXenes with various layer components in PSCs were ***,we discussed the advantages of MXenes as the hole-transporting layer,electron-transporting layer,perovskite active layer,and ***,we look forward to future research on MXene-based materials in the field of PSC and the next step of commercialization.

Effective design of nanoheterostructure anode with high ion/electron migration kinetics can give electrode with superior electrochemical ***,the design and preparation of nanoheterostructure composites with high-capacity and long cycling life in half and pouch full cells remain a big ***,a novel micro-pore MnS/Mn_(2)SnS_(4)heterostructure nanowire were in situ encapsulated into the N and S elements co-doped amorphous carbon tubes(abbreviated as(MnS/Mn_(2)SnS_(4))@N,S-ACTs)and showed superior energy storage properties in Na-/Li-ion half cells and pouch full *** Na-/Li-storage capabilities improvement are attribute to the strong synergistic effect between MnS/Mn_(2)SnS_(4)heterostructure and N,S-ACTs protective layer,the former induces an local built-in electric field between Mn_(2)Sn S_(4)and MnS during charging/discharging,accelerating interfacial ion/electron diffusion dynamics,the latter effective maintains the morphology and volume evolution during Na~+/Li~+charging/discharging,achieving a long-term cycling stability(e.g.,high discharge capacity of 79.2 mAh/g with the capacity retention of 79.3%can be gained after 2200 cycles at 3 C in(Mn S/Mn_(2)Sn S_(4))@N,S-ACTs//LiFePO_(4)pouch full cells;a high capacity of~34 mAh/g at 10 C can be got with a Coulombic efficiency of 100%after 1000 cycles in pouch(Mn S/Mn_(2)Sn S_(4))@N,S-ACTs//Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(2)O_(2)F full cells.

Hydrogen-assisted degradation of an X70 pipeline steel evaluated by single edge notched tension testing

It is well known that the presence of hydrogen in steel structures can cause a degradation of their mechanical properties, such as fracture toughness. This phenomenon, commonly called hydrogen embrittlement (HE), poses a potentially serious challenge for structural steels subjected to cathodic protection or pipelines transporting high-pressure hydrogen gas. The repurposing of natural gas pipelines for hydrogen gas transport has gathered much interest in the past few years, and it is evident that these pipeline steels should be qualified for hydrogen service. Fracture toughness is an important property for these steels. The single edge notched tension (SENT) test can be used to quantify the fracture toughness of a steel and this test has been shown to induce a constraint level comparable to that of a pipe with through-thickness or surface cracks. LS-oriented SENT specimens, extracted from an API 5L X70 pipe, are hydrogen pre-charged in an aqueous 0.1M NaOH solution under a current density of 0.8 mA/cm² for 48h to obtain saturation and subsequently tested either ex-situ or with concurrent hydrogen charging (in-situ). For the latter case, a significant shift in fracture mode takes place, with most of the crack growth appearing to occur through quasi-cleavage. For the former, only limited quasi-cleavage is found. Furthermore, cracking along the microstructural banding proved to show a significant influence on the cracking behavior during the test, complicating the test result interpretation for qualifying hydrogen gas pipelines.

Rational regulation of stable graphitic carbon nitride(CN)for superior peroxymonosulfate(PMS)activation is important in the catalytic degradation of water *** this work,the copper oxide and oxygen co-doped graphitic carbon nitride(Cu O/O-CN)was prepared via one-step synthesis and applied in activating PMS for oxytetracycline(OTC)degradation,displaying superior catalytic *** characterization and theoretical calculations indicated that the synergistic effect between the oxygen site of CN and CuO can modulate the electronic structure of the whole composite further facilitating the formation of non-radical^(1)O_(2)and various reactive *** of the influencing factor experiments revealed that CuO/O-CN has a strong resistance to the environmental *** degradation efficiency of OTC in the real water environment even exceeded that in the deionized *** four successive runs of the optimal catalyst,the OTC removal rate was still as high as 91.3%.This work developed a high-efficiency PMS activator to remove refractory pollutants via both radical pathway and non-radical pathway,which showed a promising potential in the treatment of wastewaters.

Hydrogen fuel for aviation is a new idea. Its successful implementation requires new research and new technologies. One of them is the verification of the operation of the devices and their survivability in a hydrogen flame. The main topic of the article is the development of the hydrogen research and testing laboratory. Testing the flammability of hydrogen-containing systems is a challenge due to the very high explosiveness. The need to ensure the safety of both personnel and buildings means that the preparation of a stand for testing the flammability of aircraft systems should be treated differently from before. The article presents the design of a stand for fire resistance tests. Tests of fire resistance of various elements of aircraft systems, which in the event of an accident may be within the range of the hydrogen flame and elements of the hydrogen installation itself, are the main applications of the presented laboratory stand. © 2024 IEEE.

Mineralization of benzene,toluene,and xylene (BTX) with high efficiency at room temperature is still a challenge for the purification of indoor *** this work,a foam Ti/Sb-Sn O2/β-Pb O_(2)anode catalyst was prepared for electrocatalytically oxidizing gaseous toluene in an all-solid cell at ambient *** complex Ti/Sb-Sn O_(2)/β-Pb O_(2)anode,which was prepared by sequentially deposing Sb-Sn O_(2)and β-Pb O_(2)on a foam Ti substrate,shows high electrocatalytic oxidation efficiency of toluene (80%) at 7 hr of reaction and high CO_(2)selectivity (94.9%) under an optimized condition,i.e.,a cell voltage of 2.0 V,relative humidity of60%and a flow rate of 100 m L/*** better catalytic performance can be ascribed to the high production rate of·OH radicals from discharging adsorbed water and the inhibition of oxygen evolution on the surface of foam Ti/Sb-Sn O_(2)/β-Pb O_(2)anode when compared with the foam Ti/Sb-Sn O_(2)*** results demonstrate that prepared complex electrodes can be potentially used for electrocatalytic removal of gaseous toluene at room temperature with a good performance.

This paper characterizes the development and optimization of a hybrid investment casting approach tailored for accurately crafting lattice structures with Al-4.5wt pct Cu-0.4wt pct Sc alloy, emphasizing precision in mold making, complex surface detailing, and porosity reduction. The core of the research is the description of the manufacturing procedure and the dimensional optimization strategies associated with this hybrid cast lattice geometries. After exploring the lattice shape produced through this advanced casting method, this research explores the microstructural properties and the solidification cooling rate of this hybrid investment casting. Furthermore, this work also addresses the complexity of the manufacturing protocol and the dimensional refinement method. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Stability-informed Bayesian Optimization for MPC Cost Function Learning

Designing predictive controllers towards optimal closed-loop performance while maintaining safety and stability is challenging. This work explores closed-loop learning for predictive control parameters under imperfect information while considering closed-loop stability. We employ constrained Bayesian optimization to learn a model predictive controller's (MPC) cost function parametrized as a feedforward neural network, optimizing closed-loop behavior as well as minimizing model-plant mismatch. Doing so offers a high degree of freedom and, thus, the opportunity for efficient and global optimization towards the desired and optimal closed-loop behavior. We extend this framework by stability constraints on the learned controller parameters, exploiting the optimal value function of the underlying MPC as a Lyapunov candidate. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is underlined in simulations, highlighting its performance and safety capabilities.

In the light of the energy transition, part of the European natural gas pipeline grid will be converted to hydrogen gas pipelines. One of the challenges of this conversion is the well-acknowledged reduction in mechanical properties of steel in the presence of hydrogen, commonly known as ‘hydrogen embrittlement’. The steels in-use are of variable characteristics (with respect to chemical, microstructural and mechanical properties), resulting in a variety of plasticity and fracture behaviors. The present work investigates the effect of hydrogen on the fracture behavior of a relatively old grade API 5L X56 pipeline steel produced by normalized rolling which resulted in a banded microstructure. Tensile tests were performed on smooth and notched round bar specimens that were hydrogen pre-charged electrochemically (ex-situ), and compared to tests on uncharged specimens as a reference. The fractured specimens were scanned using high resolution X-ray computed tomography (X-ray micro-CT) to visualize and quantify the damage underneath the fracture surface. Statistics regarding the void size distribution and void shapes are provided. The fracture process in the absence of hydrogen is characterised by significant void development. The presence of hydrogen accelerates the fracture mechanisms without fundamentally altering them. This is in contrast with previous results obtained on a different pipeline steel grade, demonstrating the sensitivity of hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility to material characteristics.
