Fine Tuning Attribute Weighted Naïve Bayes (FTAWNB) is a reliable modified Naïve Bayes model. Even though it is able to provide high accuracy on ordinal data, this model is sensitive to outliers. To improve the performance of FTAWNB, this research modified the Partial Instances Reduction (PIR) technique to make the FTAWNB more adaptive to outliers. Nevertheless, in contrast to the original PIR technique, which substitutes missing values for data values deemed outliers, the PIR technique suggested in this study replaces data values deemed outliers using a Naïve Bayes weighting approach. The attribute values from the outlier data are replaced with the highest probability values for the attributes in the actual class. This PIR technique is referred to as modified PIR. The FTAWNB model with modified PIR has been evaluated using the Gaming Disorder dataset. Replacing the four attributes with the least amount of information resulted in accuracy gains of 99.74%, an increase of 1.53% over the FTAWNB model. The experimental result shows that adding the modified PIR technique to the FTAWNB model can handle the outlier in the data, proving it by increasing the performance in terms of accuracy, precision, and recall without pruning the dataset used. © 2025, Ital Publication. The Transparency Challenge in Blockchain-Enabled Sustainable Development Goals Applications: Exploring Privacy-Preserving Techniques and Emerging Platforms

Blockchain technology has emerged as a key enabler for achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by offering transparent, decentralized solutions across multiple sectors. However, its inherent transparency introduces significant privacy challenges, particularly in sensitive areas such as healthcare, energy, finance, and supply chains, where confidentiality is critical. To address this tension, this paper explores a range of emerging privacy-preserving techniques, including Ring Signatures, Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs), Secure Multi-Party Computation (SMPC), Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs), and mixers, analyzing their implementation, effectiveness, and limitations. Furthermore, we conduct a detailed technical study of next-generation blockchain platforms that integrate these techniques to balance privacy, scalability, and interoperability. Our contributions include a deep dive into privacy challenges in blockchain applications for SDGs, a comparative analysis of privacy-preserving solutions, a comprehensive evaluation of emerging platforms, and a review of existing research that leverages these privacy techniques in SDG-related domains. This work aims to provide critical insights into how blockchain technology can be effectively adapted to support sustainable development while safeguarding sensitive data. © 2013 IEEE.

Combined deep convolutional neural networks for abnormality classification in wireless capsule endoscopy images

A digestive disease is a condition that affects the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, ranging from mild to severe. Common issues include heartburn, cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, and lactose intolerance. Additionally, other intestinal concerns such as bleeding, polyps, celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcers, diverticulitis, small bowel syndrome, and intestinal ischemia represent further digestive illnesses. Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) is a device designed for endoscopic exploration that employs a compact camera to capture images of the GI tract as it passes through. WCE significantly aids in the identification of GI tract disorders. However, due to the capsule’s rapid transit and the potential for blurry, ambiguous images, abnormalities in certain regions of the intestine may be overlooked. Moreover, frames can become hazy if obstructed by food or stool waste. In this research, we propose a method for detecting abnormalities in WCE images to address these limitations. To achieve high classification performance through the extraction of both high-level and low-level features, we employ a deep CNN that integrates the DenseNet121 model with a residual block. Experimental studies demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art techniques on two publicly available WCE datasets, one focused on bleeding and the other on various abnormalities. The accuracy of the proposed architecture is 96.96% for the Kvasir-Capsule Dataset and 99.50% for the MICCAI 2017 dataset. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Estimating Worst-Case Execution Time (WCET) as a regression problem has become increasingly challenging due to the complexity of modern hardware and software systems. Traditional statistical methods often fall short of providing accurate and reliable estimates. To address these limitations, ensemble learning methods have emerged as a promising approach for capturing edge cases in execution scenarios. This paper proposes a novel ensemble model that integrates fractional-order Legendre functions (FLF) to enrich feature representation. This integration reduces correlations between individual models within the ensemble, enhancing generalization capabilities. Our method achieves significant reductions in Mean Squared Error (MSE) for WCET estimates while maintaining high levels of safeness. Specifically, the proposed model maintained an error below one across most benchmarks, with safeness levels of %100 in 13 out of 16 benchmarks. These findings underscore the efficacy of our approach and its potential to provide robust and accurate WCET estimates for complex systems. © 2025 IEEE.

Exploring a Real-time Feedback Display of Non-verbal Cues in Online Work Meetings to Support Self-Presentation

Expressing oneself appropriately in online meetings through non-verbal cues can be challenging for knowledge workers. Automatic non-verbal cue detection technologies have the potential to support workers' self-presentation efforts through real-time feedback, but little is known about workers' reactions to and the implications of doing so. We designed and implemented Novecs as a technology probe of a real-time feedback display that automatically detects and signals users' own non-verbal cues - smiling, nodding, gaze, and posture. Novecs was deployed in an exploratory field study (n=18) to support knowledge workers' self-presentation in their everyday meetings. Post-study interviews reveal how Novecs' real-time feedback helped increase in-the-moment self-awareness, and how neutrally-framed feedback may help navigate tensions between authentic and in-authentic self-presentation. Participants also emphasized the need for natural timing when adjusting non-verbal cues in-meeting. We discuss design opportunities and challenges of real-time, non-verbal cue feedback systems, such as personalizing feedback based on different meeting types. © 2025 ACM.

Blockchain-based knowledge-aware semantic communications for remote driving image transmission

Remote driving, an emergent technology enabling remote operations of vehicles, presents a significant challenge in transmitting large volumes of image data to a central server. This requirement outpaces the capacity of traditional communication methods. To tackle this, we propose a novel framework using semantic communications, through a region of interest semantic segmentation method, to reduce the communication costs by transmitting meaningful semantic information rather than bit-wise data. To solve the knowledge base inconsistencies inherent in semantic communications, we introduce a blockchain-based edge-assisted system for managing diverse and geographically varied semantic segmentation knowledge bases. This system not only ensures the security of data through the tamper-resistant nature of blockchain but also leverages edge computing for efficient management. Additionally, the implementation of blockchain sharding handles differentiated knowledge bases for various tasks, thus boosting overall blockchain efficiency. Experimental results show a great reduction in latency by sharding and an increase in model accuracy, confirming our framework's effectiveness.

ClipArtGAN: An Application of Pix2Pix Generative Adversarial Network for Clip Art Generation

An image can convey a thousand words. This statement emphasizes the importance of illustrating ideas visually rather than writing them down. Although detailed image representation is typically instructive, there are several contexts where simplification of image representations may be more informative. One way to provide an abstract representation of an object is via clip art, which is a simple graphic illustration of an object that can be included in documents or presentations. Clip art representation can be utilized in graphic design for concepts expression and daily life objects illustration. Furthermore, clip art had shown remarkable advantages when compared to real images in terms of editing and manipulation since clip art geometry can be easily edited in addition to the feasibility of storing it in a resolution-independent manner. However, it can be difficult to automatically create clip arts that resemble any object. Here, we propose a novel deep learning model, named ClipArtGAN, that utilizes Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to convert a photo of an object to its corresponding clip art. To our knowledge, this is the first GAN model based on Pix2Pix architecture that is capable of automatically generating clip art for any arbitrary object. Three training datasets were collected to train and compare two GAN models based on Pix2Pix and CycleGAN architectures. Our results demonstrate that the mean accuracy obtained using ClipArtGAN utilizing Pix2Pix outperforms that of CycleGAN by 58% and that of Google Images-based search by 54%. Towards Net Zero Resilience: A Futuristic Architectural Strategy for Cyber-Attack Defence in Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT)

This paper introduces the Integrated Security Embedded Resilience Architecture (ISERA) as an advanced resilience mechanism for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) environments. The ISERA framework integrates security by design principles, micro-segmentation, and Island Mode Operation (IMO) to enhance cyber resilience and ensure continuous, secure operations. The methodology deploys a Forward-Thinking Architecture Strategy (FTAS) algorithm, which utilises an industrial Intrusion Detection System (IDS) implemented with Python’s Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) library. The FTAS algorithm successfully identified and responded to cyber-attacks, ensuring minimal system disruption. ISERA has been validated through comprehensive testing scenarios simulating Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and malware intrusions, at both the IT and OT layers where it successfully mitigates the impact of malicious activity. Results demonstrate ISERA’s efficacy in real-time threat detection, containment, and incident response, thus ensuring the integrity and reliability of critical infrastructure systems. ISERA’s decentralised approach contributes to global net zero goals by optimising resource use and minimising environmental impact. By adopting a decentralised control architecture and leveraging virtualisation, ISERA significantly enhances the cyber resilience and sustainability of critical infrastructure systems. This approach not only strengthens defences against evolving cyber threats but also optimises resource allocation, reducing the system’s carbon footprint. As a result, ISERA ensures the uninterrupted operation of essential services while contributing to broader net zero goals.
