The study in renewable energy is one of great discussion, since we, as energy users, are being faced with the dilemma of running out of non-renewable energy sources. A popular alternative to non-renewable energy, especially for residential areas, is solar energy. This paper demonstrates that it is possible to derive a function using linear regression and least squares approximation techniques with information from an online weather source, such as ***, which can predict, with little error, the voltage and photovoltaic (PV) energy that can be expected for the day. In this paper, we propose a generalized clustering approach for static data flow subgraphs mapped onto individual processors in Multi-Processor System on Chips (MPSoCs). The goal of clustering is to replace the static data flow subgraph by a single dynamic data flow actor such that the global performance in terms of latency and throughput is optimized. Through our proposed clustering approach, the scheduling of connected static data flow subgraphs can be coordinated with enclosing system representations in a way that systematically exploits the predictability and efficiency of the static data flow model. Thus, the advantages of static data flow subsystems can be exploited in the context of overall system representations that are based on more general models of computation. At the same time, our approach goes significantly beyond previous approaches to synchronous data flow clustering by providing a quasi-static - as opposed to purely-static - scheduling interface between clustered subgraphs and the enclosing systems. This greatly enhances the power of our techniques in terms of avoiding deadlock, increasing the design space for clustering, and providing for integration with more general models of computation. We show benefits of up to 95% performance improvement for real world examples. Copyright 2008 ACM.

Recent research has found that management of node duty circles, termed sensor scheduling, is able to save significant energy and prolong the lifetime of sensor networks. Sensor scheduling schemes could he categorized into two types in terms of scheduling features: round-based scheduling scheme and subset-based scheduling scheme respectively. Compared with round-based scheduling scheme, subset-based scheduling scheme is an effective solution because it is only carried out once after deployment. When sensor nodes are randomly deployed to a target region, existing subset-based scheduling algorithms can not guarantee that any subset of sensor nodes is uniformly distributed over the target region. Motivated by these reasons, firstly a maximum similarity distribution model is set up and an approximation algorithm, the subset-based coverage-preserving distributed scheduling algorithm is proposed. The algorithm is robust to clock asynchrony of nodes in different clusters, hence it is applicable to large-scale sensor networks, for which precise time synchronization is very hard. In addition, the analytical results for the theoretical upper bound of average coverage rate are presented, while nodes are randomly distributed over the target region. The experimental simulations demonstrate that this algorithm has the ability that sensor nodes in each subset are rather uniformly distributed over the target area, and available coverage rate approaches the upper bound.

This paper examines transformational learning experiences of computing students as a way to better understand threshold concepts in computing. From empirical evidence we found that students often describe transformative experiences as learning situations in which they were led to use various kinds of abstraction, for example modularity, data abstraction, inheritance, polymorphism, reuse, design patterns, and complexity. Some students describe an abstract concept as coming first, and then needing to be made concrete though application;others describe transformations in which they learn the advantages of these abstract concepts from their experience of not using them. Abstraction is certainly of central importance in computerscience. It appears, however, from our students' descriptions of transformative experiences, that abstraction per se is not a threshold, but that particular concepts in which abstraction is paramount exhibit the characteristics of threshold concepts. This paper presents the design and implementation of an open visual object-oriented programming environment (VOOPE). The environment supports a programming approach in which a program is created using extended visual objects (EVOs) - the objects having visual forms and dynamic behaviors. The environment allows creation of EVOs and modification of their behavior to adapt the changing software requirements. Thereby, VOOPE allows incremental software development using the learning capability of EVOs without rebuilding the software.
