This article introduces a novel method for predicting solar energy production using an affordable data logger and the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) algorithm. The main goal of this research is to create a precise predictive model for solar energy output, addressing the critical need for accurate forecasting in the renewable energy industry. The study capitalizes on the accessibility and cost-efficiency of a low-cost data logger to collect detailed environmental and solar irradiance data. The ANN algorithm is utilized to analyze the collected dataset, providing a robust and effective approach for forecasting solar energy production. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the developed model achieves an impressive R2 score of 0.95, indicating a high degree of accuracy and reliability in predicting solar energy output. This significant R2 score highlights the proposed methodology’s effectiveness, demonstrating its potential for practical applications in solar energy planning and management. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Regarding computer security, the growth of code vulnerability types presents a persistent challenge. These vulnerabilities, which may cause severe consequences, necessitate precise classification for effective mitigation. However, the rapid emergence of new vulnerability types complicates the classification process. Traditional methodologies, which often involve human expertise and the manual labeling or generation of example instances, are not only resource-intensive but also struggle to adapt to the dynamic nature of these vulnerabilities. This paper introduces VulnSense, an innovative method that harnesses the capabilities of Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) to address the vulnerability classification problem. VulnSense learns about unseen vulnerability classes from the descriptions of these unseen classes, while not requiring to see any instances of these unseen classes. Specifically, VulnSense learns from three main resources: (1) seen classes with labeled code instances;(2) descriptions of these seen classes;and (3) descriptions of "unseen"classes which have no labeled instances. Our experiments underscore VulnSense's superiority over existing GZSL methods in classifying instances of unseen classes. Concurrently, it maintains a performance parity with traditional labeled-example based learning methods in classifying instances of seen vulnerabilities. VulnSense demonstrates the potential of using GZSL for vulnerability classification, while also highlighting challenges that inspire future work. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Semi-Supervised Segmentation on 3d Images with Pseudo Label Calibration and Neural Process

Pseudo supervision has demonstrated empirical success in semi-supervised segmentation tasks by effectively leveraging unlabeled data, but it unavoidably encounters the problem caused by noisy pseudo labels. Existing methods against noisy pseudo labels heavily rely on the model confidence which may be unreliable in some cases. In this work, we mitigate the impact of noisy pseudo label from two aspects. First, we propose a new uncertainty-guided mutual supervision mechanism that can weaken the supervision from the noisy pseudo labels with high-level confidence. This mechanism can make the segmentation model more robust to the unreliable confidence. Second, to improve the quality of pseudo labels, we propose a novel regularization method for calibrating the noisy pseudo labels. Different from existing works, this regularization is independent of the model confidence, it focuses on the distribution consistency between labeled and pseudo-labeled data. To this end, a joint optimization based on the theory of neural process is introduced into the pseudo label calibration. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed method on the left atrium (LA) segmentation that is important for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. It experimentally shows that our method can bring a practical improvement to the LA segmentation task in comparison with the existing state-of-the-art semi-supervised learning methods. For large-scale point cloud processing, resampling takes the important role of controlling the point number and density while keeping the geometric consistency. However, current methods cannot balance such different requirements. Particularly with large-scale point clouds, classical methods often struggle with decreased efficiency and accuracy. To address such issues, we propose a weighted Poisson-disk (WPD) resampling method to improve the usability and efficiency for the processing. We first design an initial Poisson resampling with a voxel-based estimation strategy. It is able to estimate a more accurate radius of the Poisson-disk while maintaining high efficiency. Then, we design a weighted tangent smoothing step to further optimize the Voronoi diagram for each point. At the same time, sharp features are detected and kept in the optimized results with isotropic property. Finally, we achieve a resampling copy from the original point cloud with the specified point number, uniform density, and high-quality geometric consistency. Experiments show that our method significantly improves the performance of large-scale point cloud resampling for different applications, and provides a highly practical solution. These days, a lot of towns struggle with traffic jams during peak hours, which increment contamination, commotion, and feelings of anxiety for the general population. Because neural networks (NN) and machine learning (ML) techniques can handle large numbers of parameters in massive amounts of data and dynamic behaviour over time, they are replacing analytical and statistical methods in the solving of real-world problems. This research presents a convergence of machine-learning (ML) and deep-learning (DL) calculations for traffic stream prediction;this paves the way for flexible traffic signals, which can be implemented through the use of a calculation that adjusts the timing in accordance with the anticipated traffic flow or by controlling traffic signals to some degree. The proposed ML and DL models are constructed, validated, and tested using two publicly accessible datasets. The first depicts the total number of cars subjected to checks using various sensors at six junctions over the course of 56 days. In this research, ML and DL models are created using data from four of the six junctions. The excellent performance metrics obtained by all ML and DL computations suggest that their application to intelligent traffic light management is feasible. © 2024 IEEE.

The primary cause of death and disability worldwide is stroke. Accurate prediction models and identification of stroke risk factors can aid in early intervention and preventive measures. In this study, an approach based on machine learning algorithms, including Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), AdaBoost (AdB), Gradient Boosting (GB), Decision Tree (DT), and a unique Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model, is proposed to predict stroke risk at four different levels. To address the issue of imbalanced dataset, Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique coupled with Edited Nearest Neighbors (SMOTEENN) was used. 11 features were selected for training the models out of the initial 12 features, and the data-set was divided into an 80–20 train-test ratio for model assessment. The Decision Tree (DT) model achieved an accuracy of 98.53%. Additionally, a 1000 epoch Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model with various batch sizes was created; 128 produced the best results. Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD), Adam, and RMSprop were examined along with other optimizers, however SGD produced the highest accuracy rate of 99.21%. The results suggest that utilizing the selected features and the balanced data-set, machine learning algorithms such as the unique CNN model can accurately predict stroke risk at various levels. These models have the potential to aid in early detection of stroke risk and guide preventive interventions, thus improving patient care and outcomes. Further testing and implementation of these models in real clinical settings are warranted.

Grouping vehicles into platoons is a promising cooperative driving scenario to enhance the traffic safety and capacity of future vehicular networks. However, fast changing channel conditions in multi-platoon vehicular networks cause tremendous uncertainty for resource allocation. In addition, the unprecedented proliferation of various emerging vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) applications may result in some service demands with conflicting quality of experience. In this paper, we formulate a multi-objective resource allocation problem, which maximizes the transmission success ratio of intra-platoon communications and the mean opinion score (MOS) of V2I communication links. To efficiently solve this multi-objective optimization problem, we resort to a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework. Specifically, we divide it into a set of scalar optimization subproblems based on the weighted sum approach and model each one as a partially observable stochastic game (P-OSG), where each platoon acts as an agent and the actions taken by all platoons correspond to the resource allocation solution. We further propose a contribution-based dual-clip proximal policy optimization (CD-PPO) algorithm to deal with each subproblem, which is a DRL algorithm based on the actor-critic framework. The network parameters of all subproblems are then optimized collaboratively by using the proposed training algorithm and the neighborhood parameter transfer strategy. The desired Pareto front is obtained when all subproblems are solved. Simulation results reveal that the proposed algorithm can outperform other algorithms in terms of the MOS and transmission success ratio. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

A Blockchain network contains a distributed ledger that is used to store a secure and permanent record of transactions among multiple parties. As the registries of land records are historically stored in the form of paper documentation where, there might arise the issue of losing, destroying, and modifying needed documents. This land registration process is complicated and time-consuming and required a lot of effort to transfer ownership of the land registry or change any information. For this purpose, various contributions have been made by different researchers to overcome the problem of the classical land registration process by using blockchain technology. In this survey, we shed light on some advantages (reduce time and effort, security, permanency, etc.) of blockchain to identify some early problems in the paper-based land registration process.
