Predicting software vulnerability based on software metrics: a deep learning approach

The security of IT systems is the topmost priority of software developers. Software vulnerabilities undermine the security of computer systems. Lately, there have been a lot of reported issues of software vulnerabilities recorded in individuals and corporate systems. Software metrics-based techniques have been used and found to be effective due to low false positives and false negatives. However, there are software metrics that have not been investigated and could have an impact on the performance of the predictive model. In this study, we developed an ensemble deep learning algorithm made of LSTM, CNN, and MLP models with the non-investigated metrics as a feature to learn the latent representation of code metrics to predict anomalies in source code effectively. We trained the proposed model on the SySeVR datasets and compared the model's performance against five deep learning algorithms and four state-of-the-art SVPs. The proposed model performs better than the other deep learning with a classification accuracy of 96.17%, and a precision of 97.72%. The model's classification accuracy is 4.98% higher than that of the five deep learning models and 1.71% lower in precision than the state-of-the-art SVP. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Medical data are subject to privacy regulations, which severely limit AI specialists who wish to construct decision support systems for medicine. Large amounts of this data are tabular, indicating that they are organized into a table format, where patient records are represented in rows and measured variables in columns. Furthermore, the variables come in different types-some are numerical, while others are categorical. In this work, we introduce a novel method for constructing generators of synthetic tabular data with mixed types. The key point of our approach is the explicit utilization of a latent space to represent the original data. A case study using real medical data is presented. © 2024 The Authors.

For future Internet of Vehicles (IoV), communications and computing will converge to provide services. Federated learning (FL), as one of the typical distributed computing technologies, needs to be integrated with IoV. For such integration, FL suffers from the straggler effect that the entire learning speed is lowered down, because of the existence of the devices, such as low-powered road side units and vehicles, taking more time to complete their tasks. Although the existing mechanisms reduce straggler effects by adopting asynchronous mechanisms and clustering mechanisms, they lack the detailed analysis of the reasons and the impacts of each cause, leading to inefficiencies in the design of algorithm. Additionally, most of the existing work only considered the impact of a single factor in computation, communication, or data distribution, which lacks comprehensive on research for causes of stragglers effects. The bottleneck is that it is laborious to observe the time delay precisely with the existing high-calculating evaluations. In this article, we elaborately explore the effects of computing power, communication capability, and data distributions on the straggler effects with carefully designing and conducting the extensive experiments. After investigations, we propose a novel learning completion time estimation formula for low computing capability devices with mini-batch stochastic gradient decent (SGD). We compare our proposed estimation formula with the one based on floating operation per second (FLOPs). Through the evaluations, our formula can demonstrate the improvement up to 72.4% at docker and 32.4% at Raspberry Pi device compared to the existing work. © 2014 IEEE.

To fortify security mechanisms in software systems for the Internet of Things (IoT), this article presents a framework for AI-Enhanced Virtual Twin Modelling. In order to track and examine the actions of IoT devices in real-time, the suggested method makes use of virtual twin technology that is combined with machine learning techniques. Automated response generation, continuous threat assessment, and anomaly detection are made possible by creating a digital clone of the actual IoT network using the virtual twin paradigm. By combining deep learning models like CNNs and LSTMs, it becomes easier to forecast possible security risks in network traffic data by seeing intricate spatial and temporal patterns. When tested in a virtual Internet of Things (IoT) setting, the suggested framework outperforms conventional rule-based approaches by a wide margin, reducing reaction time by 35% while achieving an accuracy of 9 6. 2 %in threat identification. © 2024 IEEE.

This research focuses on the review of Fintech and its development on the IoT Platform and also the risks that can be posed to the IoT network used. In this research, it is comprehensively discussed how methods are carried out in the process of securing data, Cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, and Ethereum are comprehensively discussed to get a lot of data and comparisons and the right steps to deal with crime via the internet. In contrast to traditional cellular connection, device-to-device (D2D) communication is a direct connection amidst adjacent mobile users that does not pass through the base station (BS) and does not rely on network infrastructure to meet low power requirements and high data rate. Cellular networks and D2D connections were combined in underlay mode to address power usage concerns. In underlay D2D communication, licensed frequency bands are utilized by both D2D and cellular connections;due to resource sharing, these bands may overlap, which lowers service quality but boosts spectral efficiency. Most existing research exclusively discuss energy efficiency (EE) in the context of single cells. This article has taken into account the entire cellular network with D2D connections on various bands, and stochastic geometric theory has been used in order to obtain closed form expressions for the probability of successful transmission (STP), the average sum rate (ASR), and EE for D2D connection underlaid cellular networks over Nakagami-m fading channels. Results of simulations are used to validate analytical conclusions. Simulation results demonstrate that higher STP, higher ASR, and lower EE all result in enhanced system performance. In addition, as the shape parameter’s value m (Nakagami-m order) increases, the EE, ASR, and STP of D2D users improve, which enhances system performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

One of the key components of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks is tunable optical filters (TOFs). This paper focused on the theoretical analysis and design of a new dual-channel micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) actuated tunable optical filter based on polarization insensitive compound ring resonators (PICRRs) for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical networking applications. It is basically structured on an optimally designed capacitive type microcantilever beam, which is fixed at both ends, with built-in PICRRs, which are placed at both fixed ends of the beam to gain linearly varying longitudinal strain and stress on the resonators. Also, the dimensions of the rings are properly chosen to achieve a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 0.4078 nm with a flat pass band at 1 dB of 0.3626 nm and a good shape factor for both channels. It also shows a free spectral range of about 20.05 nm for the first channel and 20.046 nm for the second channel, with a high extinction ratio that allows filtering of adjacent channels of 50 GHz DWDM systems. Thus, when the electrostatic attraction force (EAF) is applied, the beam will bend, which induces strain and stress in the rings, which brings a change in effective refractive index of the rings and also affects the perimeter and coupling coefficients of the rings that leads to a change in the output spectrum shift, providing the tunability as high as 4.779 nm/μN, and it is capable of tuning up to 355 GHz with negligible variations of FWHM and channel spacing within the tunability range of the two channels. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
