In this paper, we are proposing a detection scheme known as spectral direct detection technique implemented with fiber bragg grating (FBG) act as encoder/decoder. This FBG based is used to encode and decode the spectral amplitude coding namely modified double weight (MDW) code in optical code division multiple access (OCDMA). This code is used due to its flexibility where its weight can be any even number that greater than two. Moreover, it can maintain the cross-correlation parameter equal to one. The performance of spectral direct detection technique against AND-subtraction technique which is both implemented with FBG based encoder/decoder is compared via simulation in downstream and upstream access network at point to multipoint (P2MP) configuration. The simulation will be carried out using Optisystem version 6.0 and the performance is characterized through bit error rate (BER) and power received at various bit rate.

Recent development on classify speaker data from a group of speaker is still insufficient to provide a satisfied result in achieving high performance pattern classification engine. There are two main difficulties in this field: how to maintain accuracy rate under incremental amounts of training data and how to reduce the time processing in the case embedded systems need to consider about efficient and simplicity of calculation. Recently we have proposed three difference hybrid pattern classification approach for text independent speaker identification system; in these approaches, we combined a hybrid GMM/VQ and decision Tree model. In this paper, we extend our investigations in order to select the most suitable hybrid GMM/VQ+DT model for real time application. For the first proposed hybrid modeling, both VQ model and GMM model will run parallel after signal preprocessing process; while the second type of proposed hybrid modeling, we present the use of decision tree in VQ techniques. The third method are extended from the second hybrid modeling which is using VQ decision rules for Gaussian mixture modeling in order to simplified the process. Experimental result shows that the third type of hybrid modeling should be considered for real world application due to the superior performance of time processing.

The RFID system is a contactless automatic identification system that identifies tags attached on goods through radio frequency communication. This system is expected to supplant barcode systems, the contact reading technique that is most widely used at present. The RFID system can be applied in a variety of areas. Among those, Ari Juels proposed an environment to prove that a pair of tags has been scanned simultaneously. And he presented a "yoking proof" protocol for this. But the yoking-proof protocol is vulnerable to replay attack. Although modified yoking-proof protocols for alleviating this drawback have been proposed, they are not immune to replay attack, either. In this paper, we analyze problems of existing yoking-proof protocols and present a new protocol, which will make replay attack difficult, based on this analysis. We have also extend this protocol so that it can provide yoking proofs for a tag group, including a multiple number of tags.

A computing model for improving marketable quality and profitability of corporations

In this paper, we provide an evaluation model for marketable quality and profitability of corporations. We apply the real values of some leading manufacturing corporations in Japan to our proposed model to analyse its accuracy. From the analysis, we concluded that the theoretical and real standard values of the marketable quality indicator were both 0.6. We showed that the proposed model gives a good approximation of economic trends of Japanese corporations. We obtained a general distribution of profitability by using the general profitability function and the marketable quality indicator. The general distribution is closer to the real value compared with the standard distribution. Copyright © 2008, Inderscience Publishers.

In this paper, a fast and efficient crosstalk-free routing algorithm is proposed to enhance message routing in optical multistage interconnection networks (OMINs). The new Fast ZeroXY algorithm is designed based on the Zero algorithms, which uses the time dilation approach to eliminate the negative effect of crosstalk associated with optical switching in the optical Omega network. To evaluate the performance of the new algorithm, a crosstalk-free version of the original ZeroXY algorithm is developed extended from the Improved ZeroXY algorithm, called the Modified ZeroXY algorithm. The Fast ZeroXY algorithm is shown to efficiently route permutations without crosstalk with improved routing time compared to the original crosstalk- free ZeroXY algorithm.

In this paper, we explore the idea of integrating the remove last pass (RLP) algorithm to the fast zero (FastZ) algorithm as the prior initial solution to improve routing performance in optical multistage interconnection networks (OMINs). OMINs are popular for its cost-effectiveness and self-routable characteristics to meet the demand for high speed switching capability. A great challenge in dealing with OMINs is the optical crosstalk caused by optical signal coupling when propagating through the switching elements comprising the architecture. Many algorithms have been developed to solve optical crosstalk using different approaches. The new fast zero with RLP (FastRLP) algorithm is developed based on the time domain approach for solving optical crosstalk in the optical omega network. Simulation results have shown that integrating RLP to FastZ algorithm successfully improved routing performance.

This paper presents the effect of atmospheric attenuation during severe hazy days for free space optical communications. The usage of free space optical communications is still rare in Malaysia due to environment factor. The FSO technology is also known as unguided beam or dasiaoptical wirelesspsila or infrared broadband. This study offers quick preliminary investigation on possible FSO performance based on wavelength selection before final commissioning and installation at site. Thus, FSO installers could make quick judgment before giving recommendation of a suitable wavelength to the customers. Preliminary evaluation of system performance of system performance is done by using local weather data obtained from metrological department. Current study among designers and FSO users show that 1550 nm light produce less atmospheric attenuation in the transmission under all weather conditions. In this study, a suitable wavelength for FSO system is found for a particular site in low visibility. The best wavelength selection would result in optimized quality of FSO transmission in hazy conditions.

The standardization of elearning environments and the design of collaboration scripts are two research areas that are acquiring a greater attention within the computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) community. We are interested in the suitability of the standard IMS-LD for modeling collaborative learning processes. We propose a reference model and the use of a graphical notation called CIAN as CSCL scripting language. Using these specifications of a high level of abstraction and mappable to a computer-interpretable notation such as IMS-LD, allows hiding the particularities of the standard to instructional designers.

Wireless networks are on the cutting edge of modern technology and rapidly gaining popularity in todaypsilas world due to their excellent usability. For secure wireless data transmission, Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), IEEE 802.11 standard defined security protocol, is employed. WEP has a potential limitation that stems from its adaptation of RC4 stream cipher algorithm. As a result, there is a pressing need for new WLAN security measure. Therefore, this paper presents hardware implementation of RC4A stream cipher and proposes to replace RC4 in WLAN security scheme, due to weakness of *** design of the cipher was implemented by Verilog HDL. For hardware implementation of the design, an Altera Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) device, EP20K200EFC484-2X from APEX family, APEX 20KE, was used.

An embedded multiprocessor FPGA system can provide powerful and more functionalities than single processor system. However, the hardware-software partitioning problem is more complex in system design because the system components become escalation. In this paper, we propose a sophisticated computation method (SCM) to solve hardware-software partitioning issues for embedded multiprocessor FPGA systems. The SCM consists of two levels partition which includes processors-fit level and multi-fit level constraints. In processors-fit level, the partitioning results of unsatisfying processor constraint can be rapidly eliminated. Next, multi-fit level constraints compute various system constraints that based on divide-and-conquer and exhaust methods. Experimental results show that our proposed method can rapidly obtain better partitioning results.
