The multiobjective Quadratic Assignment Problem (mQAP) is considered as one of the hardest optimization problems but with many real-world applications. Since it may not be possible to simply weight the importance of each flow for the mQAP, it is best to use Pareto optimization to obtain the Pareto front or an approximation of it. Although Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm has exhibited good performance across a wide range of application problems, research on mQAP has not much been investigated. This paper introduces a fuzzy particle swarm algorithm to handle the Multiobjective Quadratic Assignment Problem (mQAP). In the fuzzy scheme, the representations of the position and velocity of the particles in the conventional PSO is extended from the real vectors to fuzzy matrices. A new mapping is introduced between the particles in the swarm and the problem space in an efficient way. We evaluated the performance of the proposed approach. Empirical results illustrate that the approach can be applied for solving mQAP's very effectively.

It is well known that speech production and perception process is inherently bimodal consisting of audio and visual components. Recently there has been increased interest in using the visual modality in combination with the acoustic modality for improved speech processing. This field of study has gained the title of audio-visual speech processing. Lip movement recognition, also known as lip reading, is a communication skill which involves the interpretation of lip movements in order to estimate some important parameters of the lips that include, but not limited to, size, shape and orientation. In this paper, we represent a hybrid framework for lip reading which is based on both audio and visual speech parameters extracted from a video stream of isolated spoken words. The proposed algorithm is self-tuned in the sense that it starts with an estimations of speech parameters based on visual lip features and then the coefficients of the algorithm are fine-tuned based on the extracted audio parameters. In the audio speech processing part, extracted audio features are used to generate a vector containing information of the speech phonemes. These information are used later to enhance the recognition and matching process. For lip feature extraction, we use a modified version of the method used by F. Huang and T. Chen for tracking of multiple faces. This method is based on statistical color modeling and the deformable template. The experiments based on the proposed framework showed interesting results in recognition of isolated words.

In this paper, we propose the basic framework of point- wise topological logic on completely distributive lattices and explore approximate reasoning in it. The logic of this paper is based on pointwise characterization, therefore the pointwise conception is pervasive. We explore approximate reasoning in abstract logical framework Fl on completely distributive lattice L. We propose the structure of point- wise topological logic F TL , the structure of matching function sigma. and the structure of matching neighborhood group. We investigate approximate reasoning in pointwise topological logic F TL with matching function sigma, develop pointwise topological algorithm of simple approximate reasoning, introduce the essential characteristics of this scheme.

Due to the opportunities provided by the Internet, people are taking advantage of e-learning courses and during the last few years enormous research efforts have been dedicated to the development of e-learning systems. So far, many e-learning systems are proposed and used practically. However, in these systems the e-learning completion rate is low. One of the reasons is the low study desire and motivation. In our previous work, we implemented a e-learning system that is able to increase the learning efficiency by stimulating learners motivation. In this work, we designed and implemented new functions to improve the system performance.

This article gives a capsule view of research on rough set theory and applications ongoing at universities and laboratories in China. Included in this capsule view of rough set research is a brief description of the following things: Chinese research groups on rough set with their URLs for web pages, names of principal researchers (supervisors), numbers of graduate students, and topics being investigated. Statistical summaries showing the growth in the research on rough set theory and application in China are included. In addition, an introduction summarizing the research interests of Chinese researchers is included in this article. In general, it is difficult to compare biological reactions to some kind of stimulation among subjects on the basis of a single physiological parameter such as heart rate variability because there is a large individual variability in its values. A solution to this problem is to utilize the correlation between physiological parameters. In previous works, the maximum cross-correlation coefficient between heart rate and blood pressure variabilities changed when subjects were strongly affected by visual stimulation. In the present work, this index was compared with a traditional one associated with the arterial baroreflex gain to investigate the mechanism of the change in the index. Resting heart rate and continuous blood pressure of twenty-eight healthy adults were measured for five minutes and analyzed. The results showed that these two indices changed similarly to each other while there was little correlation in the mean value between them. Furthermore, the lag time from blood pressure variability to heart rate variability was inversely correlated with the traditional index.

In this paper we consider the case of a three-stage supply where a firm can supply many customers. This supply chain system involves suppliers, manufactures, and retailers. Production and inventory decisions are made at the suppliers and manufactures levels. The production rates for the suppliers and manufactures are assumed finite. In addition the demand for each firm is assumed to be known. The problem is to coordinate production, inventory and transportation decisions across the supply chain so that the total cost of the system is minimized. For this purpose, we incorporate transportation cost explicitly into the model and describe optimal solution procedure for solving the model.

Hybrid SCM SAC-OCDMA system employing new optical spectral amplitude direct decoding detection technique

In this research, a hybrid subcarrier multiplexed spectral-amplitude-coding optical code-division-multiple-access (SCM SAC-OCDMA) system is proposed for the purpose of combining the advantages of both techniques. SAC-OCDMA is employed because of its ability to eliminate the Multiple Access Interference (MAI) when code sequences with fixed in-phase cross correlation are used. In order to enhance the channel data rate of the OCDMA systems, the SCM technique is used. As a result, the hybrid system is robust against interference and is much more spectrally efficient. The system utilizes double weight (DW) code that has a weight W equal to two, code length N equal to six and cross correlation λ equal to 1. A simple and new detection technique called optical spectral amplitude direct decoding is proposed. Based on the theory and experimental simulation results obtained, the new proposed detection technique provides a better performance than the conventional balanced detection technique. © 2007 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

A fully differential, high gain opamp to be used in a low-voltage low-power high speed pipeline ADC in a 0.18 mu m CMOS process is designed. The opamp architecture is based on folded cascode and "double differential amplifier" technique. This design operates of a 1.8V power supply, achieving a differential output swing of +/-1.65V, a DC gain of > 95 dB with a unity gain at 312MHz and a phase margin of 56 degrees and 0.5mW power dissipation. The opamp can be used to design high-speed ADCs, for local wireless communications. The minimized power dissipation opamp could be used in high resolution, high speed pipelined analog to digital converters, which are needed in applications requiring both high data rate and high speed, such as wireless LANs.
