Tinnitus is the perception of phantom sounds in the ears or in the head. Sound therapy techniques for tinnitus have been proposed. To account for mechanisms of tinnitus generation and the clinical effects of sound therapies from the viewpoint of neural engineering, we have proposed a plastic neural network model for the human auditory system. We found that this model has a bistable state, i.e., a stable oscillatory state and a stable equilibrium (non-oscillatory) state coexist at a certain parameter region. We also found that the oscillation can be inhibited by supplying sinusoidal stimulus, which is hypothesized as sound for treatment of tinnitus, to the model. By hypothesizing that the oscillation and the equilibrium correspond to generation and inhibition of tinnitus, respectively, we reported that these phenomena could explain the fact that the habituated human auditory system temporarily halts perception of tinnitus following sound therapy. This paper describes dynamical properties of the model and inhibition of the oscillation for two kinds of noise stimuli which correspond to sound for treatment of tinnitus in clinical. Through numerical simulations we found that adequate noise stimulus can inhibits the oscillation.

In this work, we investigate the characteristics of the 2004 major storm events based on GPS-TEC measurement at Scott Base station Antarctica (77.9degS, 166.8degE). The F2 layer critical frequencies and peak height during the storm from the ionosonde measurement at the station are also investigated. Our main emphasis was on the characteristics and response during major storms events. Our results include the daily GPS-TEC and F2 layer critical frequencies and peak height from KEL IPS-42 ionosonde measurements at Scott Base station. For the year 2004, 4 storm days are classified as major storms, which have occurred on 27 th July 2004, referred to as Storm-A and on 8 th to 10 th November 2004 referred to as Storm-B. The World Data Center (WDC) Kp, Dst, and Ap highest indices for Storm-A is 9, -197 nT, and 162 respectively while for Storm-B is 9, -373 nT, and 189 respectively. The response of the ionosphere provide us some indicators of the processes and geophysical changes of the Sun-Heliospheric system during the intense geomagnetic storm period.

This paper explores the resistance of MOS current mode logic (MCML) against differential power analysis (DPA) attacks. Circuits implemented in MCML, in fact, have unique characteristics both in terms of power consumption and the dependency of the power profile from the input signal pattern. Therefore, MCML is suitable to protect cryptographic hardware from DPA and similar side-channel attacks. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of different logic styles against power analysis attacks, the non-linear bijective function of the Kasumi algorithm (known as substitution box S7) was implemented with CMOS and MCML technology, and a set of attacks was performed using power traces derived from SPICE-level simulations. Although all keys were discovered for CMOS, only very few attacks to MCML were successful.

The shape of a NURBS curve or surface is defined by the location of its control points, the control points' weights, and the knot vectors. Most of the curve and surface design tried to modify the control points. However, it is still impossible to obtained accurate control points for a reconstructed NURBS curve or surface. The fitness of these surfaces is generally considered a subjective notion depending on the judgment of the designers (eg. visually pleasing, devoid of unnecessary bumps or wiggles, satisfying certain continuity requirements). One of the restriction in ship hull design is that the existing details of a ship design on paper or a ship that already been constructed physically couldn't be reconstructed accurately and concisely in a ship hull design software. This research strives to solve this problem by creating fair ship hull surface using NURBS. An optimized NURBS ship hull fitting approach using simulated annealing is developed. Evaluation and analysis (accuracy, fairness and speed of processing) on the proposed approach is done.
