This paper presents a novel approach to radio propagation modeling in urban areas. While the development of the approach was mainly aimed at Fixed Wireless Access scenarios, it is also suitable for mobile cellular system applications and others. The approach is based upon statistical treatment of the target area. The resulting propagation model takes into account parameters of the built-up area, such as building density, building size, building height distribution and more. Using those parameters better prediction of the propagation loss can be achieved, compared to commonly used models. The model was developed in Ben-Gurion University in a research supported by InnoWave- ECI Telecom, and it was tested by InnoWave's network planning department, using the vastly deployed MultiGain Wireless (MGW) FWA system.

Edge detection is an important topic in image processing and a main tool in pattern recognition and image segmentation. Many edge detection techniques are available in the literature. 'A number of recent edge detectors are multiscale and include three main processing steps: smoothing, differentiation and labeling' (Ziau and Tabbone, 1997). This paper, presents a proposed method which is suitable for edge detection in images. This method is based on the use of the clustering algorithms (Self-Organizing Map (SOM), K-Means) and a gray scale edge detector (Canny, Generalized Edge Detector (GED)). It is shown that using the grayscale edge detectors may miss some parts of the edges which can be found using the proposed method.
