In this paper, we discuss efficient coding and design styles using Verilog from synthesis point of view. These techniques can be greatly helpful for any digital designer writing designs having speed and area considerations in his mind. Different important techniques have been addressed to enable the designer to write synthesizable codes. Apart from the synthesis, techniques are also discussed to improve the speed and area of netlist generated from the RTL codes. The prominent problem faced by the designer related to synthesis of Division and Modulus operator in FPGA has been discussed and an efficient solution has been provided.

A5 encryption/decryption algorithm depends on the use of linear feedback shift registers (LFSR) in order to generate the key-stream bits. The A5-1 algorithm uses three different LFSRs with a majority function to add non-linearity, while A5-2 uses four LFSRs. In this paper a new multi-configurable LFSR design variant of the A5 algorithm is proposed, in which the inverse taps of the LFSR are used to generate the output key-stream bits. Most edge detection algorithms include three main stages: smoothing, differentiation, and labeling. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of algorithms in which competitive learning is applied first to enhance edges, followed by an edge detector to locate the edges. In this way, more detailed and relatively more unbroken edges can be found as compared to the results when an edge detector is applied alone. The algorithms compared are K-Means, SOM and SOGR for clustering, and Canny and GED for edge detection. Perceptionally, best results were obtained with the GED-SOGR algorithm. The SOGR is also considerably simpler and faster than the SOM algorithm.

Ship hull form module is the main module in ship design. The problem of creating fair ship hull surface is of major importance in computer aided ship design environment. The fairness of these surfaces is generally considered a subjective notion depending on the judgment of the designers (e.g. visually pleasing, devoid of unnecessary bumps or wiggles, satisfying certain continuity requirements). One of the restriction in ship hull design is that the existing details of a ship design on paper or a ship that already been constructed physically couldn't be reconstructed accurately and concisely in a ship hull design software. This problem can take on many different characteristics, depending on the goal of the reconstruction, the origin of the offset, and tools or methods available to tackle the job. All of these must be taken into account in developing the best approach to solving the problem in the most efficient manner. In this research, the implementation of NURBS method is used because it brings the most convincing results.
