Signatures of SOAP/XML messages were necessary to enforce the security. This paper proposes an approach to accelerate the process of validating signatures of Web service calls. We developed a quick XML parser (QXP). The QXP is motivated by Xerces, but QXP outperforms Xerces ranging from 7 to 21 times speedup in the two benchmark programs.

Affymetrix high-density oligonucleotide microarrays measure expression of DNA transcripts using probesets, i.e. multiple probes per transcript. Usually, these multiple measurements are transformed into a single probeset expression level before data analysis proceeds;any information on variability is lost. In this work we demonstrate how individual probe measurements can be used in a statistic for differential expression. Furthermore, we show how this statistic can serve as a clustering criterion. A novel clustering algorithm using this maximum significance criterion is demonstrated to be more efficient with the measured data than competing techniques for dealing with repeated measurements, especially when the sample size is small. © 2005 IEEE.

This paper presents an analysis of the Slotted DS-CDMA system with modified node components in order to construct a load control structure in which the service rates of each node can be dynamically adapted without using feedback information. In contrast to the traditional Slotted DS-CDMA which is widely represented with single queue, prior emphasis of the approach is laid on the usage of an additional queue which is applied to manage the collided packet traffic while its queue size is also used as a load control parameter. Semi-Markov process is applied to describe the statistic behavior of the system in steady state. Trade-offs between two major performance parameters, i.e., delay and throughput, are presented and compared with those of the traditional system. Results obtained from the simulation and numerical analysis using queuing concept are compared. With these results, an advantage performance for group packets is shown, and we finally extend the concept based on the obtained results to describe a simple algorithm using one way control message as the tool to alleviate the stability problem. Usually, the functionality of a module of co-expressed genes is derived from enrichment within the module of a particular gene annotation category. The systematic setup of the chemostat cultivation experiments employed in this study, where Saccharomyces cerevisiae was grown under four different nutrient limitations, both aerobically and anaerobically, allows us to define the functionality of a module in terms of the module regulation pattern as a function of the growth parameters. In addition, we assign particular transcription factors (TF's) to each module, thus establishing a direct link between transcription factors and growth conditions. To define a module, the expression data is first discretized employing Lloyd quantization. This process assigns, for each differentially expressed gene in each of the growth conditions, one of three values: upregulated, downregulated or common level. A module is then defined as a group of genes with identical discretized expression patterns across all the growth conditions. To link a module to particular TF's, we exploit a recently published high quality dataset, which lists, for each gene which TF's can bind the upstream region of that gene, and thereby manipulate its expression. This enabled us to employ the hypergeometric distribution to establish statistically significant enrichment of TF's in particular modules. Such a link suggests a role for the TF in the regulation of the genes in the module. In addition to many known relationships, various putative relationships were predicted. These include the regulatory role of Tye7p in sulfur-limited growth. © 2005 IEEE.

In this paper, we discuss edge detection by first using a clustering algorithm followed by a known edge detection filter such as Canny or generalized edge detector (GED). We developed a new clustering method called Self-Organizing Global Ranking (SOGR). Comparative results with multispectral satellite images including SOGR, SOM and K Means clustering methods are discussed. The results show that the two-stage algorithms are better than single stage edge detector algorithms.

For planning of indoor wireless LAN systems working in the 2.4 GHz ISM band, the signal propagation prediction is needed. Empirical and semi-empirical models represent an efficient approach as opposed to deterministic models due to its simplicity and superiority in calculation time. For these models, suitable empirical parameters to characterize propagation channel must be provided. In this paper, an in building linear, one-slope (OS) empirical and semi-empirical multi-wall (MW) models are studied. Different types of MW models in the office and classroom like environment have been reported. OS purely account for attenuation of power law equation with distance while MW with additional attenuation due to obstacles such as wall, partition etc. The results and accuracy of those models are compared and discussed. The developed optimal indoor OS, MWC and MWE is then tuned to slope and MW model available in wireless simulation tool namely ICS Telecom

Due to the opportunities provided by the Internet, more and more people are taking advantage of distance learning courses and during the last few years enormous research efforts have been dedicated to the development of distance learning systems. So far, many e-learning systems are proposed and used practically. However, in these systems the e-learning completion rate is about 30 percents. One of the reasons is the low study desire when the learner studies the learning materials. In this research, we propose an e-learning system, which includes three subsystems: the learning subsystem, learner support subsystem, and teacher support subsystem. The learning subsystem improves the learners study desire. The learner support subsystem supports the learner during the study, and the teacher support subsystem support the teacher to get the learner's study state. In the future work, we would like to add other functions to improve more the system performance.

In wireless communications, mobility can make the available channel information out of date. A timely update of the channel state information is an obvious solution to improve the system performance in a time-varying channel. However, this comes at the cost of a decrease in the system throughput since many pilots have to be inserted. Thus, predicting the future channel conditions can improve not only the performance but also the throughput of many types of wireless systems. This is especially true when multiple antennas are applied at both link ends. In this paper, we propose and evaluate the performance of a prediction scheme for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems that apply spatial multiplexing. We aim at predicting the future precoder/decoder directly without going through the prediction of the channel matrix. The results show that in a slowly time-varying channel an increase in the system performance by a factor of two is possible

This paper proposes a detection method of moving ships from the navigational image sequence that was taken with cameras installed on the bridge of the ship. The image is influenced by roll and pitch of the ship. Therefore, usual technique of image processing cannot be used such as Finite Difference method. Moreover, as many sea waves appear in the images, the image cannot be dealt without rejecting sea waves. The technique in this paper proposes how to get rid of the influence of roll, pitch and sea waves. After that, we detect the ships. An interval between each of the frames is one-thirty second in this experiment. The size of the images is 640 pixels in width and 480 pixels in height. At first, the frames are segmented into about 5000 regions using brightness value of the image. About 100 regions were estimated with the ship. Each region was matched with another two frames, which passed 0.33 second and 0.66 second. 0.33 second corresponds to 10 frames. The movement of the ship is less than 50 pixels in this interval. The SSDA method is used for matching processing to be more efficiently. Both the coordinate points of an original region and the matched one are recorded on the table. It is used to calculate the deflection, the speed and the direction of the moving vector of each region. The ships can be detected with these parameters. The detected ships can be displayed clearly as a result of processing. We have taken a lot of video images in Tokyo Bay and Tokyo Port. It becomes possible to show that the ships can be detected from the video images.

In this paper faults are processed and models of faults in telecommunications networks are proposed in relation to services and revenues. The probability of faults occurring is estimated. Cost models are presented predicting the amount of revenue loss. We relate faults to services with detailed relationship between them being shown.
