This paper presents a room access monitoring system, which integrates computer and microcontroller MOTOROLA MC68HC11A8. Assembly language is used to program the microcontroller and Visual Basic 6 (VB) is used to develop the monitoring system. The monitoring system is divided into server side program (Eyewatch) and client side program. The server side program informs the user about the door status through the client side program. The purpose to develop client side program is to enable user far apart from the door, know the status whether the door is block or not. The microcontroller is integrated with a keypad and LCD display. Only an authorized person can enter the room. If an unauthorized person trying to break through the door, an alarm will be activated.

The detection of a water content of soil is one of important subjects in civil and agricultural engineering. Microwave remote sensing seems to be a promising detection technique because the microwave properties of moist soil are sensitive to water content. Passive and active microwave remote sensing approaches have been studied. Moist soil, composed of air, soil particles, bound water and free water, may be considered as a dense random medium from a theoretical point of view. We assume moist soil as three layers of random medium with flat interfaces, and investigate the effects of particle distribution density in the depth direction for developing a method for detecting a water content of soil by active remote sensing. In each layer, many water drops or soil particles coated by bound water are randomly distributed. The dense medium radiative transfer equation (DMRT), with coefficients estimated by our method, is used to calculate the scattering cross sections of the layers. We clarify numerically the characteristics of the scattering cross sections by changing the fractional volume of particles in the random medium layers, each layer thickness and the incident angle and polarization of incident waves. We finally discuss the possibility of water detection in soil on the basis of the characteristics.

As the complexity and size of data networks increases, network management faces a great challenge. Fortunately, the emergence of the SNMP (simple network management protocol) management framework and Web technology release network managers from the difficult circumstance. The paper explains the function and design of a prototype network device management station based on leading-edge Java servlet technologies and the World Wide Web. Web technologies bring valuable cost improvements, flexibility, and security enhancement to configuration management and performance management. The paper also discusses the functional requirements of Web-based network management and proposes the architecture for Web-based network configuration management, which is capable of controlling and monitoring remotely the configuration information of enterprise networks.

This paper addresses the existence and design methods of reduced-order controllers for the discrete time H/sub /spl infin// control problem with unstable invariant zeros in the state-space realization of the transfer function matrix from the control input to the controlled error or from the exogenous input to the observation output, where the realization is induced from a stabilizable and detectable realization of the generalized plant. This paper presents new controller degree bounds for the H/sub /spl infin// control problem and provides new solutions to designing of reduced-order controllers for the H/sub /spl infin// control problem with invariant zeros located outside of the open unit disk. When such unstable invariant zero exists (even it is a zero on the unit circle), this paper shows that reduced-order controllers with strictly orders less than the generalized plant order exist if the H/sub /spl infin// control problem is solvable. Two LMI based design methods for constructing the reduced-order controllers are given. Furthermore, this paper shows that the results obtained here unify previous special results of reduced-order controllers for the H/sub /spl infin// control problems with infinite zeros, or unstable real transmission zeros, etc.

Path prediction is currently being considered for use in the context of mobile and wireless computing toward more efficient network resource management schemes. Path prediction allows the network and services to further enhance the quality of service levels the user enjoys. Such mechanisms are mostly meaningful in infrastructures like wireless LANs. In this article we present a path prediction algorithm that exploits the machine learning algorithm of learning automata. The decision of the learning automaton is driven by the movement patterns of a single user but is also affected by the aggregated patterns demonstrated by all users. Simulations of the algorithm, performed using the Realistic Mobility Pattern Generator, show increased prediction accuracy.

Editing, reproduction and distribution of the digital multimedia are becoming extremely easier and faster with the existence of the Internet and the availability of pervasive and powerful multimedia tools. However, these advances have their drawbacks as well, for example unauthorized tampering of images. Digital watermarking has emerged as a possible method to tackle these issues. A digital watermark is created by inserting a digital signal, or pattern within multimedia content. This embedded information can be used to determine whether the host data are being tampered with or not. In this paper, we deal with an extended class of flexible shop scheduling problems, and consider a solution under the condition in which information on jobs to be processed may not be given beforehand, i.e., under the framework of real-time scheduling. To realize a solution, we apply such a method where jobs are to be dispatched by applying a set of rules (rule-set), and propose an approach in which a rule-set is generated and improved by using the genetics-based machine learning technique. Through some computational experiments, the effectiveness and the potential of the proposed approach are investigated.

In this paper, we develop a 4-DOF force display system for the analysis by synthesis of facial color for the interaction with anthropomorphic agent. By using the system, we analyze the changes in facial skin temperature and facial color associated with circulation dynamics in response to forced actions. On the basis of the analysis, we propose a synthetic method for the affect display of virtual face with facial color and expression in force display, and the effectiveness of the method is confirmed. Finally, we develop a prototype of virtual arm wrestling system with anthropomorphic agent using synthesized dynamic three-dimensional facial color and expression.
