Environmental sustainability is one of the sustainable development goals and the invention of electric vehicles marks the beginning of alternatives to fuel-based vehicles. Electric vehicles have penetrated the global market to reduce carbon emissions and create a carbon-neutral community. Though these vehicles are environmentally friendly a large population of people in developing nations are still hesitant to purchase these vehicles as they are expensive. This research work proposes strategies for maximizing the utility of E-vehicles based on the obstructing factors using the multi-criteria decision-making method of the Fuzzy Base criterion method (FBCM). The strategies proposed in this paper are ranked based on the score values obtained using representations by trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. The consistency of the results is compared with other decision-making methods and the results obtained using FBCM were found to be more optimal. In this work, the special focus is made concerning developing nations. This paper also presents the extensive role of multi-criteria decision-making methods in designing optimal solutions to the problems of different dimensions associated with electric vehicles. © 2024 IEEE.

This study uses intelligent headlights to improve car safety and economy. The suggested system uses Raspberry Pi and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to dynamically modify beam patterns to real-time ambient circumstances and context. The Raspberry Pi is a flexible computer platform, and CNNs automatically analyze sensor and video data to modify headlight beam patterns. A trained CNN model recognizes impending vehicles, pedestrians, and road conditions. By analyzing this information, the headlights dynamically optimize the beam pattern to maximize visibility and minimize road user glare. This flexibility improves road safety by optimizing lighting when required, minimizing driver fatigue, and enhancing response times. Raspberry Pi allows for a cost-effective and easy retrofitting of current vehicles with intelligent headlights. The system's scalability and adaptability make it suitable for many automotive applications, helping to construct smart and linked transportation systems. This discovery is a major step towards intelligent and adaptable lighting systems that improve vehicle safety and economy. © 2024 IEEE.

A threshold key-sharing technology-based publicly verifiable key-sharing technology is presented to explore blockchain users’ private keys’ security. After receiving key fragments, participating nodes validate them. When splitting the key, the central splitting node does evil. In the critical recovery stage, the key fragments of the nodes participating in key splicing are publicly verified to prevent them from doing evil. In the critical distribution stage, add IDs to participating nodes to track malicious nodes and update node status in real-time, and a dynamic threshold mechanism is designed. To maintain private key fragment integrity, the owner of the key fragment and the controller node redistribute it to the new participating nodes once the vital fragment node goes offline. Experimental results reveal that this scheme’s private key recovery rate is 80% and has threshold properties, traceability, unforgeability, and recoverability. © 2024 The Author(s).

This research investigates supervised machine learning algorithms for short-term energy forecast in smart homes. A dataset involving energy consumption in the house was used and it was analyzed across 10-times using the Support Vector Machine, k-Nearest Neighbors, Gradient Boosting Machines, and Ensemble Methods. Results show that the performance of the Support Vector Machine was significantly higher with a mean, standard deviation, and maximum accuracy of 0.84, 0.02, and 0.88. Notably, the SVM had the minimum mean absolute error of 0.035 and root mean square error at 0.045. The coefficient of determination was also high, between 0.72 and 0.76, across 10-times of iteration. Thus, the SVM model is more accurate and reliable for forecasting energy consumption in the house. Although k-NN, GBM, and Ensemble Methods also showed considerable success, the abovementioned information proves that SVM is the most beneficial algorithm for smart home energy forecasting for the short-term. These outcomes can help design efficient energy management systems as they inform practitioners about the effectiveness of this method for energy consumption optimization to decrease costs and increase user comfort. Knowing which algorithms are capable of producing the high-quality results helps to design highly efficient short-term and long-term energy management solutions that satisfy the needs and preferences of smart home users, making the energy as sustainable and efficient as possible. © 2024 IEEE.

The utilisation of ML (Machine Learning) techniques in the detection of the VP (Voice Pathology) has recently gained a lot of consideration. However, these efforts still have several drawbacks such as: I) the accuracy rates of most previous works are still not promising and need more improvement. II) The majority of the previous works have concentrated on the task of VP detection only and disregarded the task of VP classification. III) Most of the previous works have been assessed based on a single voice data only like the vowel /a/, and the other vowels (/i/, and /u/) and sentences were disregarded. IV) The majority of the previous works performance were assessed utilising a limited evaluation metrics. Recently, one of the utmost effective ML techniques is FLN (Fast Learning Network), it is an efficient technique for data classification. However, the FLN classifier has not been implemented to the problem of VP detection and classification. Therefore, this research proposes the FLN classifier with MFCC (Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient) features in order to enhance the accuracy of the VP detection and classification. The FLN classifier has the ability to a) solve both binary and multiclass classification issues, b) eliminate overfitting, as well as c) operate akin to a NN (Neural Network) structure while employing the principles of a kernel-based SVM (Support Vector Machine). In this research, the SVD (Saarbrucken Voice Database) dataset was utilised to assess the FLN classifier performance in the VP detection and classification. The assessment of the proposed FLN classifier was conducted based on two phases: the first phase includes all the voice samples of the SVD dataset with the sentences and vowels (i.e., /a/, /i/, and /u/) which are pronounced in neutral, high, and low pitches. While the second phase uses the voice samples of the utmost common 3 pathology types (i.e., paralysis, polyp, and cyst) based on the vowel /a/ that is pronounced in neutral pitch. The

Data poisoning attacks, where adversaries manipulate training data to degrade model performance, are an emerging threat as machine learning becomes widely deployed in sensitive applications. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of data poisoning including attack techniques, adversary incentives, impacts on security and reliability, detection methods, defenses, and key research gaps. We examine label flipping, instance injection, backdoors, and other attack categories that enable malicious outcomes ranging from IP theft to accidents in autonomous systems. Promising detection approaches include statistical tests, robust learning, and forensics. However, significant challenges remain in translating academic defenses like adversarial training and sanitization into practical tools ready for operational use. With safety and trustworthiness at stake, more research on benchmarking evaluations, adaptive attacks, fundamental tradeoffs, and real-world deployment of defenses is urgently needed. Understanding vulnerabilities and developing resilient machine learning pipelines will only grow in importance as data integrity is fundamental to developing safe artificial intelligence. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2023.

Emotion recognition using brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) is an emerging field with the ongoing challenge of developing robust and efficient classification methods. This study introduces an original approach, the multi-representation convolutional neural network (MrCNN), designed to exploit the complementary features of recurrence plots (RP) and spectrograms. The efficacy of this new method was empirically evaluated and compared with the standalone RP and spectrogram methods in emotion classification tasks using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Two widely used datasets, DEAP and SEED, were used as the experimental platforms for this study. Employing a multifaceted analytical approach involving descriptive statistics, data visualization, and hypothesis tests, this study revealed that MrCNN significantly outperforms the standalone RP and spectrogram methods in terms of key performance metrics. Specifically, MrCNN achieved an accuracy of 0.9663, sensitivity of 0.9848, specificity of 0.9825, kappa score of 0.9511, and F1 score of 0.9656 for the DEAP dataset. For the SEED dataset, the accuracy was 0.9695, with sensitivity, specificity, kappa scores, and F1 score of 0.9844, 0.9842, 0.9543, and 0.9695, respectively. These results were statistically validated, and a comparative analysis with existing literature substantiated the robustness and superiority of the MrCNN method. This study sets new performance benchmarks and offers a reliable and effective approach for emotion classification using EEG signals. © 2023 IEEE.

Millions of people across the globe were affected by this rapidly spreading disease by the year 2020. Contamination of the respiratory system results from contracting COVID-19. Nonetheless, establishing a conclusive diagnosis of COVID-19 may prove difficult due to the subtle differences it shares with conventional pneumonia and the complexities involved in identifying areas of infection. A growing number of approaches based on deep learning (DL) are being proposed for the automated detection of COVID-19 from CT scan images. By employing the data pretreatment methodology, unprocessed image data becomes prepared for further analysis. The proposed framework utilised transfer learning to construct VGGNet, which is capable of discerning the Covid-19 disease. The model was subsequently assessed in comparison to the most sophisticated models, VGG16 and VGG19, using the SARS-COV2 CT scan dataset. This dataset contains 1230 CT scans of non-infected images and 1252 CT scans of Covid-19-infected images. The model has achieved 99% accuracy, 98% precision, 97% recall, and 98% F1-score, among other performance metrics. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2025.

RDDM: A Rate-Distortion Guided Diffusion Model for Leaned Image Compression Enhancement

Currently, denoising diffusion probability models (DDPM) have achieved significant success in various image generation tasks, but their application in image compression, especially in the context of learned image compression (LIC), is quite limited. In this study, we introduce a rate-distortion (RD) guided diffusion model, referred to as RDDM, to enhance the performance of LIC. In RDDM, LIC is treated as a lossy codec function constrained by RD, dividing the input image into two parts through encoding and decoding operations: the reconstructed image and the residual image. The construction of RDDM is primarily based on two points. First, RDDM treats diffusion models as repositories of image structures and textures, built using extensive real-world datasets. Under the guidance of RD constraints, it extracts and utilizes the necessary structural and textural priors from these repositories to restore the input image. Second, RDDM employs a Bayesian network to progressively infer the input image based on the reconstructed image and its codec function. Additionally, our research reveals that RDDM’s performance declines when its codec function does not match the reconstructed image. However, using the highest bitrate codec function minimizes this performance drop. The resulting model is referred to as RDDM*. The experimental results indicate that both RDDM and RDDM* can be applied to various architectures of LICs, such as CNN, Transformer, and their hybrid. They can significantly improve the fidelity of these codecs while maintaining or even enhancing perceptual quality to some extent. © 2011 IEEE.
