Smart home technology has made daily life easier, automated, and managed. IoT devices like smart speakers, cameras, thermostats, and security systems are increasingly integrated, raising security and privacy concerns. This study examines smart home devices' energy consumption, use trends, device failures, and system efficiency. This research uses smart home devices to identify consumption trends and risks. To better understand smart home ecosystems, the study will evaluate energy consumption, device usage hours, and malfunctions that can affect functionality and security. Using predictive analytics and machine learning, the researchers predict excessive energy usage and device problems. These methods identify trends and irregularities in smart home device operation to improve performance, efficiency, and security. This study investigates how user decisions, usage hours, and device age affect energy consumption, as well as how to identify optimization opportunities. The data analysis study contains statistical summaries and visualisations of device type, usage hours, energy consumption, user preferences, malfunction incidents, and device age. Machine learning algorithms such as linear regression and anomaly detection predict energy usage and locate anomalies. The data illustrate energy and device efficiency trends and recommend improvements to smart home security and effectiveness. This study addresses smart home device vulnerabilities and inefficiencies to improve smart home system optimization. The results offer smart home technology manufacturers and customers ways to improve energy efficiency, device performance, and system security. © 2024 IEEE.

In this study,twelve machine learning(ML)techniques are used to accurately estimate the safety factor of rock slopes(SFRS).The dataset used for developing these models consists of 344 rock slopes from various open-pit mines around Iran,evenly distributed between the training(80%)and testing(20%)*** models are evaluated for accuracy using Janbu's limit equilibrium method(LEM)and commercial tool GeoStudio *** assessment metrics show that the random forest model is the most accurate in estimating the SFRS(MSE=0.0182,R2=0.8319)and shows high agreement with the results from the LEM *** results from the long-short-term memory(LSTM)model are the least accurate(MSE=0.037,R2=0.6618)of all the models ***,only the null space support vector regression(NuSVR)model performs accurately compared to the practice mode by altering the value of one parameter while maintaining the other parameters *** is suggested that this model would be the best one to use to calculate the SFRS.A graphical user interface for the proposed models is developed to further assist in the calculation of the SFRS for engineering *** this study,we attempt to bridge the gap between modern slope stability evaluation techniques and more conventional analysis methods.

Video and image quality improvement using an enhanced optimized dehazing technique

The detrimental effects of atmospheric haze frequently plague outdoor imagery. This phenomenon arises from the scattering of light by minute particles within the ambient environment surrounding the scene to be imaged. Haze engenders an overall whitening of the image, leading to diminished contrast. To address these issues and enhance the quality of hazy images and videos, an enhanced dehazing technique is proposed. The proposed technique includes image enhancement before the optimal dehazing process. The enhancement stage entails the implementation of both homomorphic processing and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE), serving to control the image dynamic range, while concurrently heightening the image contrast. The culminating stage encompasses an optimized dehazing technique, adept at expunging haze-induced artifacts from images. The homomorphic processing and CLAHE, applied in the pre-processing step, establish a foundation for the subsequent dehazing procedure. This proposed methodology is systematically applied to a gamut of visual outputs, including visible videos, Near-Infrared (NIR) frames, and authentic hazy images. Comparative evaluations of the proposed technique, homomorphic-processing-based enhanced dehazing, and standalone dehazing techniques is undertaken on different video types encompassing five frames. It is evident that the proposed technique, synergizing the homomorphic processing, CLAHE, and dehazing, outperforms alternative strategies. Furthermore, the proposed technique is subjected to a comparative study with various existing dehazing techniques over real hazy images. The assessment depends on Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), correlation, and entropy metrics. The results underscore the efficacy of the proposed technique, particularly in terms of spectral entropy enhancement of dehazed frames. For both visible and NIR frames, the percentages of enhancement by the proposed technique are 17.66% and 118.48%, respectively. ©

Shadow extraction and elimination is essential for intelligent transportation systems(ITS)in vehicle tracking *** shadow is the source of error for vehicle detection,which causes misclassification of vehicles and a high false alarm rate in the research of vehicle counting,vehicle detection,vehicle tracking,and *** of the existing research is on shadow extraction of moving vehicles in high intensity and on standard datasets,but the process of extracting shadows from moving vehicles in low light of real scenes is *** real scenes of vehicles dataset are generated by self on the Vadodara–Mumbai highway during periods of poor illumination for shadow extraction of moving vehicles to address the above *** paper offers a robust shadow extraction of moving vehicles and its elimination for vehicle *** method is distributed into two phases:In the first phase,we extract foreground regions using a mixture of Gaussian model,and then in the second phase,with the help of the Gamma correction,intensity ratio,negative transformation,and a combination of Gaussian filters,we locate and remove the shadow region from the foreground *** to the outcomes proposed method with outcomes of an existing method,the suggested method achieves an average true negative rate of above 90%,a shadow detection rate SDR(η%),and a shadow discrimination rate SDR(ξ%)of 80%.Hence,the suggested method is more appropriate for moving shadow detection in real scenes.

Unveiling the Safety Aspects of DevSecOps: Evolution, Gaps and Trends

Background: The popularity of DevSecOps is on the rise because it promises to integrate a greater degree of security into software delivery pipelines. However, there is also an unacceptable risk related to safety that cannot be overlooked, given the importance of this aspect in many industries. Objective: The objective of this study is to provide an overview of the safety aspects reported in the literature on DevSecOps. This study also characterizes such aspects and identifies the gaps that may lead to future research work. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using five well-known academic databases. The search was executed in September 2021 and March 2022 to identify relevant studies. Results: The search returned 114 academic studies. After the screening process, five primary studies published between 2019 and 2021 were selected. These studies were analyzed thoroughly to identify the safety aspects. Then, we categorized them into three main groups: (i) risk-related safety aspects, (ii) human-related aspects, and (iii) management aspects. Conclusion: Safety is an important characteristic that is becoming more critical as the number of critical systems grows. This review reveals that only a scarce number of studies are focusing on safety in DevSecOps. However, those studies gave us some insights into this topic. Therefore, our main observation is that this topic has not yet been completely explored in the academic literature. This review can encourage reflection and discussion between the safety and security communities. © 2023 Bentham science Publishers.

This work proposes a novel image encryption algorithm that integrates unique image transformation techniques with the principles of chaotic and hyper-chaotic systems. By harnessing the unpredictable behavior of the Chua system and the hyper-chaotic nature of the Chen system, the algorithm carries out rescaling, rotation, and randomization on the target image. The intrinsic unpredictability and sensitivity to initial conditions of these chaotic systems endow the encryption algorithm with an expansive key space of 25208. This feature not only bolsters its resilience against brute-force attacks but also magnifies its overall security profile. The algorithm's efficiency is evident in its rapid computational speed and lean resource consumption, making it suitable for real-time applications. To gauge its robustness, a battery of rigorous tests and analyses, spanning differential attacks, statistical attacks, and brute-force assaults, were employed. The results validate its ability to resist a diverse spectrum of threats. With its expansive key space, exceptional efficiency, and sturdy defenses, the proposed algorithm emerges as a potential cornerstone for safeguarding digital images in arenas like secure communication, data storage, and multimedia transmission. In sum, this research pushes the boundaries of high-security image encryption methodologies, catering to the burgeoning demands of the digital age. © 2013 IEEE.

Enhancing structural health monitoring with AI-ML algorithms: a focus on crack detection and prediction

SHM is a very important process in terms of the safety and durability of infrastructure. Traditional SHM often faces problems detecting minor structural defects and handling large datasets. Therefore, certain more advanced approaches are called for. The paper discussed the applications of AI and ML algorithms, such as CatBoost and the African Vultures Optimization Algorithm, for such challenges. The research is based on a unique dataset of 8,541 rows and diverse features, developing a predictive framework that enhances crack detection and forecast capabilities. The approach mainly deals with heterogeneous data using the CatBoost algorithm, given its capability for high-accuracy predictions, while AVOA optimizes feature selection, reduces the computational cost, and guarantees no loss in model performance. This methodology has resulted in a significant enhancement of the prediction accuracy, which states the importance of AI-ML integration in SHM. The key results demonstrate the effectiveness of the model in detecting structural anomalies and crack propagation to enable proactive maintenance strategies. This study’s contributions have gone toward advancing SHM with scalable and efficient AI-ML frameworks, enabling real-time monitoring for better infrastructure management. Such development might have a transforming potential to cut down on maintenance costs and enhance operational safety, thus further encouraging sustainable infrastructure systems. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

In modern cloud environments, Docker containers have become a cornerstone for efficient application deployment, enabling microservices architectures and seamless scalability. However, large-scale Docker environments present significant challenges, particularly in terms of security vulnerabilities and storage performance. This paper explores vulnerability analysis and storage performance optimization in high-performance, container-based Docker environments. Docker swarm is a container orchestration platform which could be very useful for maintaining the docker containers at scale even at distributed environment, these tools also provide us a great features for managing the rolling updates and health check in the lifecycle of containers. We perform a comprehensive evaluation of Docker image vulnerabilities using automated scanning tools, assessing common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVEs) across large image repositories. Additionally, we investigate storage performance bottlenecks and analyse the impact of various storage drivers on container efficiency. Our findings offer critical insights into balancing performance and security in high-scale Docker deployments, proposing strategies for mitigating risks and enhancing resource management. The results guide container orchestration decisions for enterprises aiming to deploy secure, high-performance systems. © 2024 IEEE.
