Rolled-up catalytic micromotors with tubular structures are fabricated by rolling up strained Pt/Co/Ti metallic nanomembranes through selectively etching of the sacrificial lift off resist (LOR). The rolled-up micromotors present distinct motion behaviors in an organic/aqueous mixture fuel compared to those in a pure aqueous fuel. These self-propelled micromotors can move in pure aqueous fuel with a speed up to several millimeters per second. However, when placed into an organic/aqueous mixture fuel, the micromotors walk on the liquid surface. An intermediate Co layer facilitates a magnetically guided motion of these microtubular motors. The motion at the air-liquid interface can be regulated and suspended by the meniscus-climbing effect. Such meniscus-navigated motion represents a novel approach for regulation of micromotors at the air-liquid interface and opens the door to new and exciting operations of these micro-scale machines. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. A hybrid wavelength division multiple access （WDMA）/optical code division multiplexing （OCDM） system is proposed, where the optical code is not the same as the address of every optical network unit （ONU）; rather, the code is a virtual fiber of hybrid passive optical network （PON）. To our knowledge, this is the first report analyzing a single encoder/decoder with a single corresponding optical code being exploited to encode/decode multiple wavelength signals simultaneously. This system enables OCDM to become transparent to ONU so that the existing wavelength division multiplexing （WDM） PON can be upgraded. Thus, redesigning the optical line terminal and ONU can be easily accomplished, and greatly decreasing the number of encoder/decoder becomes possible. In experiment, we only employ two encoder/decoder pairs to combine two WDM-PONs in one fiber. Simulation results confirm the feasibility of the proposed system.

In this paper, We propose a single sideband RoF system based on MSK modulation. One sideband of terahertz wave undergoes the single sideband MSK modulation while the terahertz wave is obtained via carrier-suppression double sideband modulation. The BER performance achieves 1 × 10 -9 and the sensitivity of the receiver is -17.8dBm with a data rate of 5Gb/s after 40km transmission.

We propose FSK/ASK re-modulation WDM-PON with coherent receiver. Apparent BER improvement is obtained by utilizing FSK image rejection receiver, especially for long distance transmission. Parameters in image rejection receiver which affect the system performance are analyzed. Results show that the presented scheme is promising in super long reach access network.

We propose a single-side band (SSB) Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) system based on OFDM-MSK modulation. Inphase/quadrature-phase (IQ) imbalance effect can significantly degrade the system performance. In order to obtain a better system performance, at the transmitter, the phase departure tolerance should be within 1 degree and the amplitude departure tolerance within 5% in the electrical domain, while in the optical domain, 10 degrees and 40%, respectively. At the receiver, the phase departure tolerance should be within 2 degrees and the amplitude departure tolerance within 10%.

This paper explores the FPGA routing architecture based on a new concept of "general switch box (GSB)" to improve the performance of FPGA. Compared with the existing CB/SB routing architecture and CS-box architecture, the proposed GSB architecture has much larger exploration space. Experimental results with MCNC benchmark circuits show that the performance of FPGAs with GSB is about 24.3% better than the CB/SB architecture with the same segment distribution in terms of product of channel width and delay using 0.17% less routing switches for the single wire length. For the two types of wire segments, we propose an architecture with 13.3% performance improvement at the cost of about 0.8% increase in switch number compared to the single wire length GSB architecture. © 2010 IEEE.
