Water scarcity in arid regions necessitates innovative solutions to uncover and manage subsurface water resources for environmental health. This study explores the potential of GeoHydroNet, a specialized deep learning framework, in identifying hidden water resources within arid regions. Utilizing remote sensing data such as multispectral and hyperspectral imagery, geological maps, and soil moisture datasets, GeoHydroNet combines graph neural Networks (GNNs), AutoEncoders, and generative adversarial networks (GANs) to address challenges in subsurface hydrology. The model achieved an accuracy of 93.5%, surpassing traditional models like CNNs (85.4%), LSTMs (88.1%), and RNNs (82.6%). GeoHydroNet demonstrates significant precision (0.88), recall (0.87), and sensitivity to data imbalance (0.91). Its physics-informed learning approach incorporates hydrological principles, ensuring realistic predictions. By analyzing subsurface water patterns, recharge zones, and geological influences, the model not only enhances prediction accuracy but also aids in sustainable groundwater management. GeoHydroNet’s performance in identifying groundwater levels, with minimal errors ranging from 0.62 to 3.07%, indicates its robustness in tackling water scarcity challenges in data-constrained environments. These findings highlight its transformative role in hydrological modeling and sustainable water resource management in arid regions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Understanding crowd behavior is essential in mass religious gatherings for crowd managers. Surveillance devices such as CCTV provide data in real time in the form of raw video, while the crowd manager estimates the crowd state from video based on their experience. In this study, we propose a methodology to automate the crowd parameter estimation process using an object detection model and tracking algorithm, which will assist crowd managers in estimating the state of the crowd. There are two key contributions to this study. First, the study proposes a methodology to automate crowd parameter estimation from video in a mass religious gathering. Second, the existing state-of-the-art object detection model has been improved to adapt to the challenging situation of mass religious gatherings with high density, high diversity crowd videos. The computational analysis of the Bangla poems is a challenging task due to the diverse linguistic, stylistic, and semantic features of the Bangla language. In this work, we prepared a dataset of 1311 Bangla poems of two separate categories: Love and Miscellaneous poem, which contain 500 and 811 poems respectively. We used word or semantic-based features to classify Bangla poems using the TF-IDF feature techniques. We used Logistic Regression, Naïve Bayes (NB), and Support Vector Machine (SVM) models for classification through machine learning, and we used Bayesian optimization techniques for hyperparameters tuning of these three models. We also used LSTM, CNN, and transformer models for this research. For the performance evaluation of the classification models, we used four evaluation metrics of precision, recall, F1-score, and accuracy. We also used the ROC-AUC curve to distinguish between all the machine learning and deep learning models. The experimental results expressed that, the transformer model achieved the highest accuracy compared to all the typical machine learning and deep learning models with an accuracy of 87%. © 2023 IEEE.

This study employs the User-Centered Design (UCD) methodology to develop a mobile health (mHealth) application (app) specifically tailored for Bangladeshi women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM). GDM affects approximately 10% of pregnant women globally and around 35% within Bangladesh, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO). Despite its high prevalence, there is a significant lack of awareness and education about GDM in Bangladesh, compounded by language barriers that make existing digital solutions less accessible. The MatrikalinDiabetes mHealth app aims to overcome these barriers by providing comprehensive management and educational resources for GDM in the Bangla language, addressing both pre-pregnancy and post-pregnancy needs. To ensure the app meets the actual needs of potential users, personas were created based on a literature review, and a survey was conducted. This process informed the development of both a low-fidelity, paper-based prototype and a high-fidelity digital prototype. Key features of the MatrikalinDiabetes app include tracking of food and water intake, physical activity monitoring, reminders, GDM education, chat forums for community support, blood glucose level (BGL) monitoring, an SOS button for emergency contacts, and quizzes for user engagement. Preliminary feedback indicated that 53.8% of participants favored the integrated features and expressed willingness to use and recommend the app. The survey of the high-fidelity prototype yielded positive responses, with 57.9% of participants strongly agreeing and 42.1% agreeing that the features were beneficial. The user-friendly design of the high-fidelity prototype ensures intuitive interaction, aiding in health management, enhancing GDM understanding, and promoting a healthier lifestyle among pregnant women in Bangladesh. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Lung cancer has become one of the primary causes of death worldwide due to cancer, which indicates the necessity of early diagnosis. In this regard, the present work proposes an optimized model of transfer learning based on characterizing different stages of lung cancer by using computed tomography images acquired from the IQ-OTH/NCCD lung cancer database downloadable from Kaggle. It makes use of a two-step process: first, a U-Net model is used on the patient's CT images to reconstruct anatomical features and reduce noise;second, a ShuffleNet architecture is used to predict the patient's CT stage using the reconstructed image. In addition, to enhance classification, PSO was incorporated into the model so that it can optimize the hyperparameters. The accuracy of the model was at 97.85 percent, and it suggests that the model can become a very useful tool for clinicians to bring about earliest identification and staging for lung cancer. © 2024 IEEE.

Efficient Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) trajectory generation is crucial for successful area coverage missions, aiming to maximize coverage while minimizing resource consumption. In this research, we present a comprehensive study on optimizing UAV trajectory generation using Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) with the Adam optimization algorithm. The DNNs are trained on historical data to produce smooth and continuous trajectories, thereby reducing abrupt changes in direction and enhancing overall efficiency during the mission. To evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, we conducted experiments comparing different activation functions, namely tanh, sigmoid, and ReLU, with the Adam-optimized DNN model. The trajectories generated by each activation function were analyzed using key metrics, including Mean Squared Error (MSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), and R-squared (R2) scores for both X and Y coordinates. The results of the comparative analysis revealed that the DNN model with the Adam optimizer exhibited superior performance over the other activation functions. It achieved lower MSE, MAE, and RMSE values, indicating better trajectory accuracy and smoother paths. Additionally, the R2 scores demonstrated a higher correlation between the generated trajectories and the actual trajectories, highlighting the model's ability to capture underlying patterns effectively. The findings underscore the significance of leveraging the Adam-optimized DNN approach for UAV trajectory planning, offering promising opportunities for resource optimization, increased mission success, and further advancements in autonomous aerial systems. This research contributes to the ongoing efforts in UAV path planning, optimization, and intelligent control strategies, paving the way for enhanced autonomous systems in various real-world applications. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.. IoT for smart microgrids is an innovative disruption at the cutting edge of energy management, relying on interconnectedness provided by smart sensors and devices to enhance power generation and distribution precision in metropolitan areas. The problems of the real-time operational capabilities required for efficient energy resource management thus progress, inhibit rapid control and management. The main goal of this research proposal consists of to use of the advanced technology of 5G NR Sidelink combined with MQTT to conduct a revolutionary communication system of Microgrid running through the IoT devices. The 5G NR (New Radio) Sidelink enables direct D2D communication, which leads to a dramatic lowering of the latency in the absence of traditional network infrastructures for communication, while the MQTT protocol improves the communication efficiency among networks of numerous IoT devices. The introduction of this system was followed by a 15% decrease in energy transmission losses and by 20% improvement in response times in comparison to conventional models specified in the quantitative evaluation thus increasing operational efficiency by far. These efficiencies not only reduce operating expenses and power consumption but also increase the solution's scalability, pointing out the possibility of building the solution for bigger urban microgrid implementations. In consideration of that, the suggested mechanism with 5G NR Sidelink along with MQTT overcomes elaborate barriers of IoT-based microgrids and establishes a new potency in advanced energy management in smart cities which could make the distribution network in the urban areas on the edge of the verge of a change. © 2024 IEEE.

Kidney tumor is a health concern that affects kidney cells and may leads to mortality depending on their type. Benign tumors can be unproblematic whereas malignant tumors pose the threat of kidney cancer. Early detection and diagnosis are possible through kidney tumor recognition based on deep learning techniques. In this paper, a method based on transfer learning using deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) is proposed to recognize kidney tumor from computed tomography (CT) images. The proposed method was evaluated on 5284 images. The final accuracy, precision, recall, specificity and F1 score were 92.54%, 80.45%, 93.02%, 92.38% and 0.8628, respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

The generalized quadratic assignment problem (GQAP) poses a significant challenge in optimization, known for its NP-hard complexity and wide-ranging applications in supply chain and manufacturing contexts. While various metaheuristic algorithms have addressed the GQAP, this paper introduces a novel modification of the genetic algorithm (GA), namely the genetic engineering algorithm (GEA). A traditional GA initializes the population of solutions randomly and refines these solutions iteratively through crossover and mutation operators. However, its reliance on randomness often leads to premature convergence, susceptibility to local optima, and suboptimal solutions at termination of the algorithmic run. To address these drawbacks, our research presents a modified GA framework inspired by genetic engineering principles. This framework introduces novel search mechanisms mimicking gene mining processes, targeting population enhancement through insertion, purification, and genetic material exchange from elite solutions. The GEA adds three search scenarios to the traditional GA framework to exhibit desired characteristics from chromosomes, enhancing solution quality and convergence speed. This GEA demonstrates a superior performance across various search scenarios against state-of-the-art algorithms and exact solutions for the benchmark instances of the GQAP. Additionally, this study conducts comprehensive sensitivity analyses on the search scenarios of the GEA. By employing gene mining strategies, the proposed GEA offers promising solutions for effectively addressing the NP-hard optimization challenges of the GQAP on large-scale datasets. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

Using electronic health records (EHR) data for predicting the condition of patients who are in need of emergency care is a promising application of machine learning. With the help of machine learning, complex problems of identification of patterns can be solved with ease and accuracy when proper machine learning model is implemented. This paper uses EHR data to build an end-to-end machine learning pipeline for predicting the outcome of emergency care patients. As a machine learning process, the pipeline includes data preprocessing, feature engineering, model selection, data set training and testing, evaluation, and deployment. By using EHR data in this pipeline, the model has been trained and tested on a large dataset of many patients information with different types of machine learning algorithms to improve and get the best prediction accuracy. This pipeline can aid in managing primary care patients efficiently and effectively with the implementation of best suitable machine learning algorithm at the time of urgency. By implementing the model on the EHR dataset, an accuracy of more than 75\% is obtained which indicates the efficiency of the machine learning process in the process of identifying patients who need the emergency care more than the general patients when taken to the primary care or emergency. © 2023 IEEE.
