A semi-analytical finite element method(SAFEM),based on the two-scale asymptotic homogenization method(AHM)and the finite element method(FEM),is implemented to obtain the effective properties of two-phase fiber-reinforced composites(FRCs).The fibers are periodically distributed and unidirectionally aligned in a homogeneous *** framework addresses the static linear elastic micropolar problem through partial differential equations,subject to boundary conditions and perfect interface contact *** mathematical formulation of the local problems and the effective coefficients are presented by the *** local problems obtained from the AHM are solved by the FEM,which is denoted as the *** numerical results are provided,and the accuracy of the solutions is analyzed,indicating that the formulas and results obtained with the SAFEM may serve as the reference points for validating the outcomes of experimental and numerical computations.

The article presents an approach to storing and processing the results of industrial, laboratory, and computational experiments based on databases. The approach is presented on the example of the process of copolymerization of butadiene with styrene, which proceeds continuously in a cascade of series-connected ideal mixing reactors. A conceptual and logical database model of the industrial process under study has been created. The constructed structure can be adapted for other copolymerization processes, depending on the type of process, its formulation, and the process flow conditions. The presented physical model is implemented as a database and has been tested in the Microsoft SQL Server environment.

The current work describes the algorithm for obtaining porous ammonium nitrate granules in granulation plants using devices with different fluidized bed configurations. We present brief theoretical foundations for calculating the main equipment of the granulation plant. We develop and propose the design of individual units for the sequential implementation of the main stages of ammonium nitrate modification to obtain a nanostructured porous surface layer. We assess the ammonium nitrate nanoporous structure quality and show further ways to improve the technology. Current work also pays attention to methods for ensuring the necessary specific quality indicators of porous ammonium nitrate by choosing the optimal technological mode of the unit operation and the design characteristics of the main equipment. © King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology 2023.

An adaptive solution strategy for Richards' equation

Flow in variably saturated porous media is typically modelled by the Richards equation, a nonlinear elliptic-parabolic equation which is notoriously challenging to solve numerically. In this paper, we propose a robust and fast iterative solver for Richards’ equation. The solver relies on an adaptive switching algorithm, based on rigorously derived a posteriori indicators, between two linearization methods: L-scheme and Newton. Although a combined L-scheme/Newton strategy was introduced previously in [1], here, for the first time we propose a reliable and robust criteria for switching between these schemes. Real-world problems often consist of multiple conflicting objectives to be optimized simultaneously, featuring a set of Pareto-optimal solutions. Estimating the entire Pareto front can be computationally expensive, and is not always necessary, as decision makers will likely be interested only in specific regions of the Pareto front. In the absence of knowledge about the decision maker preferences, the so-called knees in the Pareto front are considered to be particularly attractive. In this paper, we propose using Thompson Sampling in the Bayesian optimization framework to estimate the location of the knee regions in a data-efficient manner. Our experimental results show that the proposed methods accurately locate the knee regions after a very small number of evaluations, providing a computationally efficient approach to single-and multi-knee detection in multi-objective optimization. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

We present a novel passivity enforcement (passivation) method, called KLAP, for linear time-invariant systems based on the Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov (KYP) lemma and the closely related Lur’e equations. The passivation problem in our framework corresponds to finding a perturbation to a given non-passive system that renders the system passive while minimizing the H2 or frequency-weighted H2 distance between the original non-passive and the resulting passive system. We show that this problem can be formulated as an unconstrained optimization problem whose objective function can be differentiated efficiently even in large-scale settings. We show that any minimizer of the unconstrained problem yields the same passive system. Furthermore, we prove that, in the absence of a feedthrough term, every local minimizer is also a global minimizer. For cases involving a non-trivial feedthrough term, we analyze global minimizers in relation to the extremal solutions of the Lur’e equations, which can serve as tools for identifying local minima. To solve the resulting numerical optimization problem efficiently, we propose an initialization strategy based on modifying the feedthrough term and a restart strategy when it is likely that the optimization has converged to a local minimum. The biomechanical parameters of muscle gastrocnemius contraction and biochemical parameters of blood and muscle tissue in rats after chronic alcoholization for 3, 6, and 9 months were studied. The oral administration of C60 fullerene aqueous solution (C60FAS) at doses of 0.5, 1, and 2 mg/kg throughout the experiment was used as a therapeutic agent. C60FAS in each of the experimental groups was administered in three ways: 1 h before alcohol intake, together with alcohol, and 1 h after alcohol intake. The most significant positive effects were recorded when alcohol and C60FAS were administered together at the optimal dose of 1 mg/kg. So, the increase in muscle gastrocnemius contraction force was 20 ± 1%, 33 ± 2% and 65 ± 3% (p 60 fullerenes, as powerful antioxidants, for the correction of pathological conditions of the muscular system arising from alcohol intoxication. © 2023, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.

We study, using the integral-equation-based in-house guaranteed-convergence numerical code, the effect of a circular air hole on the frequency, threshold gain and directionality of emission of the whispering-gallery modes of a two-dimensional model of circular-disk microcavity laser. We show that a small hole can enhance the directionality greatly and leave the threshold gain intact, if disk's refractive index is large enough and hole's location is chosen properly. This location should be close to the area where the same uniform disk, if illuminated with a plane wave, displays a broadband focusing in the form of hot spot called photonic jet. © 2021 IEEE.

computer simulation is the most modern method in the field of evaluating the parameters of a developed product in engineering problems. The essence of this method is to replace the real physical process that occurs during the operation of turbomachinery, with its mathematical model, and solve the problem with the help of modern computers. An approach with the replacement of a long (from several months to a year) and expensive development cycle by a numerical experiment (from several days to a month) will allow us to detect and eliminate the main flaws at the stage of product design, without realizing intermediate prototypes. Distributions of the main gas-dynamic parameters of the process studied (airflow velocity and pressure, mass flow rate) were obtained. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.
