An experimental austenitic twin-induced plasticity (TWIP) steel was deformed under hot torsion tests. Two different total equivalent strains were employed in order to raise its yield strength while keeping reasonable toughness. The material was strained isothermally at 900 °C with a low strain rate of 0.05 s–1. The effects of torsional deformation on the microstructure, texture and mechanical properties of TWIP-FeMnCCr steel were investigated and compared with the as-received samples. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) measurements were performed to identify the phases present in the metal before and after the thermomechanical process. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), Orientation distribution function (ODF) analysis and tensile experiments complemented the investigation of this research. The main deformation mechanism changed from conventional sliding inside the grain to nucleated twinning from the grain boundaries, which led to the decrease of the grains to less than 1 μm (UFG - Ultrafine Grains). The results indicate that the deformation mechanisms transition dependent on grain size is associated with the discontinuous flow profile of the material. This was due to changes in the density of dislocations within the grain and the movement of dislocations around the yield point. No martensitic transformation was detected during the strain and neither from the twinning mechanism in the microstructure after the torsion deformation. The best balance between high strength and good ductility (920 MPa and 52%) was obtained after the total equivalent strain of 2.6. It was verified that the employed thermomechanical schedule affects the displacement of the substructure with the formation of subgrains influencing the hardening behavior, texture and yield strength of the metal. © 2023, The Authors. The dynamics of coherent acoustic phonons in the Bi2Se3 layered crystal system are investigated. The synthesis of natural polysaccharides from durian seed gum-modified chitosan as complex nanoparticles was successfully developed. The complex formation of nanoparticles was confirmed by 1H NMR, indicating the interpenetrating polymer network between the durian seed gum and chitosan. The material's physical properties were analyzed using ZETA potential, SEM, FTIR, swelling assay, and spectrofluorometer. The material showed a pH-responsive behavior as evidenced by the swelling assay, in which the complex nanoparticle has a smaller swelling index in pH 5.5 and 7.4 than pH 2.1. The stability of the material was tested by checking the hydrodynamic diameter, which resulted in the modification of chitosan having higher kinetic stability than the durian seed gum under a diameter smaller than 1 μm. The chitosan-modified durian seed gum's hemolytic activity indicates blood compatibility with 4 % hemolytic activity under high nanoparticle concentration (400 μg/mL). More importantly, the cytotoxicity test of complex nanoparticles showed biocompatibility with NIH/3 T3 cells, whereas complex nanoparticles exhibited high toxicity towards HeLa cells. Moreover, complex nanoparticles showed strong intracellular blue fluorescence with selective activity towards cancer cells. Hence, this newly developed green synthesis of polyelectrolyte nanoparticles derived from durian seed gum modified with chitosan improved selectivity and intracellular fluorescence in tracking cancer cells. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

The hexagonal tabular ß-Mg2Si phase (hex-ß) co-existed with conventional truncated octagonal shaped ß-Mg2Si (con-ß) in Al-1.0 mass% Mg2Si alloy containing a small amount of noble metal elements (NMEs;Cu, Pt, Ag, Pd or Au) at the over-aged condition of 673 K. As this hex-ß laid on the {111} plane of the Al matrix, and its six edges were parallel to ß, its orientation relationship with the Al-matrix is as follows:{111}Al //{111}ß and Al //ßIt was the same as our previous report of (hex-ß) in an ingot of Al-1.0 mass%Mg2Si- 0.5 mass% Cu alloy just homogenized at 723 K for 4 days, without cold-rolling, solution heat treatment, and aging. There is no significant difference in the lattice parameter of ß-Mg2Si by added NMEs. The formation of hex-ß was suggested to be related to defects in the Al-matrix, for example, by segregation of NMEs at the interface, altering the stacking fault energy, or introducing partial dislocations. © 2023, The Authors. AgriField3D: A Curated 3D Point Cloud and Procedural Model Dataset of Field-Grown Maize from a Diversity Panel

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in three-dimensional (3D) agricultural research, particularly for maize, has been limited by the scarcity of large-scale, diverse datasets. While 2D image datasets are abundant, they fail to capture essential structural details such as leaf architecture, plant volume, and spatial arrangements that 3D data provide. To address this limitation, we present AgriField3D (website), a curated dataset of 3D point clouds of field-grown maize plants from a diverse genetic panel, designed to be AI-ready for advancing agricultural research. Our dataset comprises over 1,000 high-quality point clouds collected using a Terrestrial Laser Scanner, complemented by procedural models that provide structured, parametric representations of maize plants. These procedural models, generated using Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) and optimized via a two-step process combining Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and differentiable programming, enable precise, scalable reconstructions of leaf surfaces and plant architectures. To enhance usability, we performed graph-based segmentation to isolate individual leaves and stalks, ensuring consistent labeling across all samples. We also conducted rigorous manual quality control on all datasets, correcting errors in segmentation, ensuring accurate leaf ordering, and validating metadata annotations. The dataset further includes metadata detailing plant morphology and quality, alongside multi-resolution subsampled versions (100k, 50k, 10k points) optimized for various computational needs. By integrating point cloud data of field grown plants with high-fidelity procedural models and ensuring meticulous manual validation, AgriField3D provides a comprehensive foundation for AI-driven phenotyping, plant structural analysis, and 3D applications in agricultural research. © 2025, CC BY-NC-SA.

In the present study, magnetic silica-chitosan hybrid (NMP@SiO₂/CPTMS/Chi) was synthesized via a convenient and green sol-gel technique under room temperature, and the material was used as a highly efficient magnetic adsorbent for the removal of phosphate ions in water. While the magnetic properties of NMP from iron enable the material to be quickly separated via magnetic separation, the abundant active sites from the chitosan made the hybrid exhibit high adsorption capacity for phosphate ions. At pH 6, the removal of phosphate ions followed the pseudo-second-order (PSO) kinetic model with the adsorption rate constant (k₂) of 5.9 × 10^-3 mg g⁻¹ min⁻¹ and obeyed the Langmuir isotherm model with a maximum adsorption capacity (q_max) of 15.06 mg g⁻¹, outperforming most of the previously reported adsorbents. Stability tests and derivative thermogravimetry (DTG) analysis demonstrated that NMP@SiO₂/CPTMS/Chi remained stable even under strongly acidic conditions and possessed high thermal stability, respectively. The synergistic combination of high adsorption capacity, acid stability, thermal stability, and facile magnetic separation renders NMP@SiO₂/CPTMS/Chi a promising adsorbent for wastewater treatment and environmental remediation. Overall, this innovative material represents a significant advancement in phosphate removal, offering a sustainable and effective solution to address the global challenge of water pollution and protect aquatic ecosystems. © 2025 The Authors

The Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging system plays a crucial role in clinical planning, offering valuable insights for effectively managing hepatocellular carcinoma. Accurate prediction of BCLC stages can significantly ease the workload on radiologists. However, few datasets are explicitly designed for discerning BCLC stages. Despite the common practice of appending BCLC labels to clinical data within datasets, the inherent imbalance in BCLC distribution is further amplified by the diverse purposes for which datasets are curated. In this study, we aim to develop a BCLC staging system using the advanced Swin Transformer model. Additionally, we explore the integration of two datasets, each originally intended for separate objectives, highlighting the critical challenge of preserving class distribution in practical study designs. This exploration is pivotal for ensuring the applicability of our developed staging system in the designed clinical settings. Our resulting BCLC staging system demonstrates an accuracy of 55.81% (±7.8%), contributing to advancing medical image-based research for predicting BCLC stages.

This study aims to develop a system for extracting crucial information from tire sidewalls using Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Initially, images of tire were captured manually by smartphone cameras, including Redmi 9T, iPhone 11, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The captured images are then transferred to a computer for storage. Subsequently, these images were cropped according to the boundaries identified by Hough Circle Transform (HCT). The cropped images were then further pre-processed. During the pre-processing phase, geometrical transformation and image sharpening techniques are applied to enhance the clarity and readability of the text images. The text is then extracted using Google Vision, with the extracted text categorized by size, DOT, brand and pattern. The results indicated that the effectiveness of image pre-processing was constrained by the accuracy of circle detection, which reached a maximum rate of 87.1%. This causes parts of the text to be cut out inaccurately, leading to a suboptimal extraction accuracy of 55.65%. It is also observed that the Redmi 9T camera produced inconsistent results compared to other devices. Specifically, the iPhone 11 and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra demonstrated superior extraction accuracies of 69.71% and 66.37%, respectively, whereas the Redmi 9T achieved a lower extraction accuracy of 37.76%.

Exceptional points (EPs) have been extensively explored in mechanical, acoustic, plasmonic, and photonic systems. However, little is known about the role of EPs in tailoring the dynamic tunability of optical devices. A specific type of EPs known as chiral EPs has recently attracted much attention for controlling the flow of light and for building sensors with better responsivity. A recently demonstrated route to chiral EPs via lithographically defined symmetric Mie scatterers on the rim of resonators has not only provided the much-needed mechanical stability for studying chiral EPs, but also helped reduce losses originating from nanofabrication imperfections, facilitating the insitu study of chiral EPs and their contribution to the dynamics and tunability of resonators. Here, we use asymmetric Mie scatterers to break the rotational symmetry of a microresonator, to demonstrate deterministic thermal tuning across a chiral EP, and to demonstrate EP-mediated chiral optical nonlinear response and efficient electro-optic tuning. Our results indicate asymmetric electro-optic modulation with up to 17dB contrast at GHz and CMOS-compatible voltage levels. Such wafer-scale nano-manufacturing of chiral electro-optic modulators and the chiral EP-tailored tunning may facilitate new micro-resonator functionalities in quantum information processing, electromagnetic wave control, and optical interconnects. © 2024, CC BY.

Typical video compression systems consist of two main modules: motion coding and residual coding. This general architecture is adopted by classical coding schemes (such as international standards H.265 and H.266) and deep learning-based coding schemes. We propose a novel B-frame coding architecture based on two-layer Conditional Augmented Normalization Flows (CANF). It has the striking feature of not transmitting any motion information. Our proposed idea of video compression without motion coding offers a new direction for learned video coding. Our base layer is a low-resolution image compressor that replaces the full-resolution motion compressor. The low-resolution coded image is merged with the warped high-resolution images to generate a high-quality image as a conditioning signal for the enhancement-layer image coding in full resolution. One advantage of this architecture is significantly reduced computational complexity due to eliminating the motion information compressor. In addition, we adopt a skip-mode coding technique to reduce the transmitted latent samples. The rate-distortion performance of our scheme is slightly lower than that of the state-of-the-art learned B-frame coding scheme, B-CANF, but outperforms other learned B-frame coding schemes. However, compared to B-CANF, our scheme saves 45% of multiply-accumulate operations (MACs) for encoding and 27% of MACs for decoding. The code is available at https://***.
