Computer vision has been used in many areas such as medical, transportation, military, geography, etc. The fast development of sensor devices inside camera and satellite provides not only red-greed-blue (RGB) images but also multispectral dataset with some channels including RGB, infrared, short-wave, and thermal wave. Most of the dataset is panchromatic (black and white) and RGB, for example Google Map and other satellite-based map applications. This study examines the effects of multispectral dataset for semantic segmentation of land cover. The comparison between RGB with band 2 to band 7 of Landsat 8 Satellite shows an improvement of accuracy from 90.283 to 94.473 for U-Net and from 91.76 to 95.183 for DeepLabV3+. In addition, this research also compares two well-known semantic segmentation methods, namely U-Net and DeepLabV3+, that shown that DeepLabV3+ outperformed U-Net regarding to speed and accuracy. Spray pyrolysis is a method for preparing nanocomposite materials in the gas phase. Due to the ease with which the temperature in the furnace can be controlled, this method can produce more uniform nanoparticle sizes. This method can be used to synthesize ZnO nanoparticles. Additionally, due to the photocatalytic properties of the synthesized particles, they are used to decompose synthetic dye waste. Due to electron-hole recombination, ZnO's photocatalytic properties are limited. A doping process with various metals was used to enhance the photocatalytic properties of ZnO nanoparticles. Ag is one of these metals. The addition of Ag metal to ZnO nanoparticles results in the formation of nanocomposites with preferable photocatalytic properties. However, the addition of Ag results in the aggregation of the obtained particles. As a result, the ZnO particles must be trapped in a matrix (for example, SiO2) to inhibit particle growth. This research aims to determine the effect of the SiO2 composition on the characteristics and photocatalytic properties of ZnO/Ag/SiO2 nanocomposite synthesized via spray pyrolysis. SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) analysis was used to determine the morphology of the nanocomposites, XRD (X-ray Diffraction) analysis was used to determine the purity and degree of crystallization, FTIR (Fourier-transform Infrared) analysis was used to determine the functional groups, and UV-Vis Spectrophotometer analysis was used to determine the photocatalytic characteristics. According to the analysis results, the optimal photocatalytic activity was obtained at 1% SiO2, with a degradation rate of up to 47% of methylene blue and a rate constant (k) of 0.0086 L/min under UV light irradiation. © 2011 Institute of Physics Publishing. Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a polymer widely used for artificial bone implants but exhibits a low affinity for bone tissue and lacks osteoconductivity and osseointegration. Because strontium (Sr) is known to enhance bone growth, PEEK implants coated with strontium titanate [SrTiO3 (STO)] are expected to improve the bone growth around them. In this study, STO was deposited on model PEEK implants by magnetron sputtering deposition and its ability to release Sr2+ ions to a surrounding phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) solution was examined. It was found that, in the early stage of the deposition process, STO on a PEEK surface exhibits irregular surface structures with many holes. The amount of Sr stored in the STO film increases with the increasing film thickness but the release rate of Sr2+ ions from the STO film to the surrounding PBS also increases with the film thickness, limiting the duration of effectiveness of the STO-coated PEEK films. It was found, however, that a three-layer titanium (Ti)-STO-Ti film deposited on PEEK allows a steady release of Sr2+ ions to the surrounding PBS for an extended period. © 2023 by Begell House, Inc. ***.

Deepepiil13: Deep Learning for Prediction of Il-13 Inducing Epitopes Using Pre-Trained Language Models and Multi-Window Convolutional Neural Networks

Interleukin-13 (IL-13) is a key cytokine involved in allergic inflammation and the cytokine storm associated with severe COVID-19. Identifying antigenic epitopes capable of inducing IL-13 holds therapeutic potential for developing epitope-based vaccines and immunomodulatory treatments. However, conventional methods for epitope prediction are often inefficient and inaccurate. This study presents DeepEpiIL13, a novel deep learning framework that integrates pre-trained language models and multi-window convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to rapidly and accurately predict IL-13-inducing epitopes from protein sequences. The ProtTrans pre-trained language model was employed to generate high-dimensional embeddings that capture rich contextual information from protein sequences. These embeddings were then inputted into a multi-window CNN architecture, enabling the efficient exploration of local and global sequence patterns associated with IL-13 induction. The proposed approach was rigorously evaluated using benchmark datasets and an independent SARS-CoV-2 dataset. DeepEpiIL13 achieved superior performance compared to traditional methods, with an impressive Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC) of 0.52 and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.86 on the benchmark dataset. On the independent SARS-CoV-2 dataset, DeepEpiIL13 demonstrated remarkable robustness, attaining an MCC of 0.63 and an AUC of 0.92, highlighting its potential applicability in the context of COVID-19 research. This study introduces a powerful deep learning framework for accurate epitope prediction, offering new avenues for the development of epitope-based vaccines and immunotherapies targeting IL-13-mediated disorders. The successful identification of IL-13-inducing epitopes paves the way for novel therapeutic interventions against allergic diseases, inflammatory conditions, and potentially severe viral infections like COVID-19. © 2024, The Authors. Exams are an important component of any educational program, including online education. In any test, there is a possibility of cheating, so its detection and prevention is important. This study aims to conduct an in-depth study of the online exam monitoring model approach based on facial recognition used to detect cheating. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria designed, 13 selected studies were obtained. From these studies, we conducted further analysis regarding the Face Detection Method, Face Recognition Method, Initial Feature, Behavior Analysis and Evaluation Metrics used in each study so as to provide answers to research questions. the most frequently used Face detection method was Viola-Jones with a presentation of 20%, then CNN and MTCNN with a total presentation of 21%. The most widely used face recognition method in selected studies is CNN and metrics Accuracy is one of the most frequently used evaluations with a percentage of 33%. While the features that are usually used to detect cheating during online exams include facial motion and head pose which occupies the first position. The second is eye movement, then multiple faces gaze estimation and facial expression is in third place. Other features that also play a role in analyzing cheating behavior are mouth detection, facial vector, landmark location, gesture and posture.

Towards Precision Cancer Therapy: Prottrans and Multi-Window Scanning Convolutional Neural Networks Transforming Protein-Peptide Interaction Predictions

This study delves into the prediction of protein-peptide interactions using advanced machine learning techniques, comparing models such as sequence-based, standard CNNs, and traditional classifiers. Leveraging pre-trained language models and multi-view window scanning CNNs, our approach yields significant improvements, with ProtTrans standing out based on 2.1 billion protein sequences and 393 billion amino acids. The integrated model achieves an impressive AUC of 0.855 and 0.822 on Set_1 and Set_2 datasets, outperforming previous methods. Beyond this, we explore the application of this model in cancer therapy, particularly in identifying peptide interactions for selective targeting of cancer cells. The findings of this study contribute to bioinformatics, providing valuable insights for drug discovery and therapeutic development. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Removing data heterogeneity influence enhances network topology dependence of decentralized SGD

We consider decentralized stochastic optimization problems, where a network of n nodes cooperates to find a minimizer of the globally-averaged cost. A widely studied decentralized algorithm for this problem is the decentralized SGD (D-SGD), in which each node averages only with its neighbors. D-SGD is efficient in single-iteration communication, but it is very sensitive to the network topology. For smooth objective functions, the transient stage (which measures the number of iterations the algorithm has to experience before achieving the linear speedup stage) of D-SGD is on the order of O(n/(1 - β)2) and O(n3/(1 - β)4) for strongly and generally convex cost functions, respectively, where 1 - β ∈ (0, 1) is a topology-dependent quantity that approaches 0 for a large and sparse network. Hence, D-SGD suffers from slow convergence for large and sparse *** this work, we revisit the convergence property of the D2/Exact-Diffusion algorithm. By eliminating the influence of data heterogeneity between nodes, D2/Exact-diffusion is shown to have an enhanced transient stage that is on the order of Õ(n/(1 - β)) and O(n3/(1-β)2) for strongly and generally convex cost functions (where Õ (·) hides all logarithm factors), respectively. Moreover, when D2/Exact-Diffusion is implemented with both gradient accumulation and multi-round gossip communications, its transient stage can be further improved to Õ (1/(1-β)1/2) and Õ(n/(1-β)) for strongly and generally convex cost functions, respectively. To our knowledge, these established results for D2/Exact-Diffusion have the best (i.e., weakest) dependence on network topology compared to existing decentralized algorithms. Numerical simulations are conducted to validate our theories.

Supervised learning in function spaces is an emerging area of machine learning research with applications to the prediction of complex physical systems such as fluid flows, solid mechanics, and climate modeling. By directly learning maps (operators) between infinite dimensional function spaces, these models are able to learn discretization invariant representations of target functions. A common approach is to represent such target functions as linear combinations of basis elements learned from data. However, there are simple scenarios where, even though the target functions form a low dimensional submanifold, a very large number of basis elements is needed for an accurate linear representation. Here we present NOMAD, a novel operator learning framework with a nonlinear decoder map capable of learning finite dimensional representations of nonlinear submanifolds in function spaces. We show this method is able to accurately learn low dimensional representations of solution manifolds to partial differential equations while outperforming linear models of larger size. Additionally, we compare to state-of-the-art operator learning methods on a complex fluid dynamics benchmark and achieve competitive performance with a significantly smaller model size and training cost. © 2022, CC BY-NC-SA.

The rapid advancement of immersive technologies has propelled the development of the Metaverse, where the convergence of virtual and physical realities necessitates the generation of high-quality, photorealistic images to enhance user experience. However, generating these images, especially through Generative Diffusion Models (GDMs), in mobile edge computing environments presents significant challenges due to the limited computing resources of edge devices and the dynamic nature of wireless networks. This paper proposes a novel framework that integrates contract-inspired contest theory, Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), and GDMs to optimize image generation in these resource-constrained environments. The framework addresses the critical challenges of resource allocation and semantic data transmission quality by incentivizing edge devices to efficiently transmit high-quality semantic data, which is essential for creating realistic and immersive images. The use of contest and contract theory ensures that edge devices are motivated to allocate resources effectively, while DRL dynamically adjusts to network conditions, optimizing the overall image generation process. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach not only improves the quality of generated images but also achieves superior convergence speed and stability compared to traditional methods. This makes the framework particularly effective for optimizing complex resource allocation tasks in mobile edge Metaverse applications, offering enhanced performance and efficiency in creating immersive virtual environments. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Humans rely increasingly on sensors to address grand challenges and to improve quality of life in the era of digitalization and big data. For ubiquitous sensing, flexible sensors are developed to overcome the limitations of conventional rigid counterparts. Despite rapid advancement in bench-side research over the last decade, the market adoption of flexible sensors remains limited. To ease and to expedite their deployment, here, we identify bottlenecks hindering the maturation of flexible sensors and propose promising solutions. We first analyze continued...challenges in achieving satisfactory sensing performance for real-world applications and then summarize issues in compatible sensor-biology interfaces, followed by brief discussions on powering and connecting sensor networks. Issues en route to commercialization and for sustainable growth of the sector are also analyzed, highlighting environmental concerns and emphasizing nontechnical issues such as business, regulatory, and ethical considerations. Additionally, we look at future intelligent flexible sensors. In proposing a comprehensive roadmap, we hope to steer research efforts towards common goals and to guide coordinated development strategies from disparate communities. Through such collaborative
