In this work, the influence of the solidification process on the microstructure, thermodynamic parameters and mechanical properties of CuAlBeNbNi shape memory alloy (SMA) was investigated. While directional solidification has been used to improve functional properties in Cu-based SMAs, the squeeze casting process has not yet been explored. The results indicate that the processes of unidirectional solidification and squeeze casting offer an alternative method to modify the thermodynamic parameters, mechanical properties, and microstructural properties of the CuAlBeNbNi SMA while keeping the composition constant. This study aims to fill the knowledge gap regarding the impact of solidification processes on the properties of Cu-based SMAs, specifically investigating CuAlBeNbNi SMAs. © 2023, The Authors. The rapid population growth and industrial development in developing countries harm the agricultural sector because many agricultural lands are converted into residential or industrial areas. Applying modern agriculture technologies such as hydroponic could help to overcome the problem. However, hydroponics requires special attention in adjusting the pH and nutrient levels to maximize plant growth, so an automated system is needed to manage the process. In this research, a smart hydroponic system is proposed by applying Adaptive Networkbased Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and Internet-of-Things. The IoT system consists of sensor, actuator, and data processing layer is designed to monitor and control the condition of pH and nutrition of the observed plants. Then, the ANFIS algorithm is designed to control the level of pH and nutrition. The experiment results show that the system can automatically adjust the pH and nutrient levels to the expected range for growing plants, and the fuzzy controller made using ANFIS are more accurate and stable than the fuzzy controller made using Sugeno. This study shows that ANFIS has excellent performance when controlling multiple actuators, as long as the data set has great granularity and well defined.

Electrochemically converting nitrate ions, a widely distributed nitrogen source in industrial wastewater and polluted groundwater, into ammonia represents a sustainable route for both wastewater treatment and ammonia generation. However, it is currently hindered by low catalytic activities, especially under low nitrate concentrations. Here we report a high-performance Ru-dispersed Cu nanowire catalyst that delivers an industrial-relevant nitrate reduction current of 1 A cm-2 while maintaining a high NH3 Faradaic efficiency of 93%. More importantly, this high nitrate-reduction catalytic activity enables over a 99% nitrate conversion into ammonia, from an industrial wastewater level of 2, 000 ppm to a drinkable water level 4Cl and liquid NH3 solution products, which suggests a practical approach to convert wastewater nitrate into valuable ammonia products. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the highly dispersed Ru atoms provide active nitrate reduction sites and the surrounding Cu sites can suppress the main side reaction, the hydrogen evolution reaction. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Limited 2022.

Purpose: The objectives of this study were to create a device with technological development of the self-inflating bag (SIB) equipment to measure the variables tidal volume, peak inspiratory pressure, and inspiratory flow and to evaluate the knowledge of undergraduate students in handling the SIB. To reduce the risks of mortality, length of hospital stay, and infections, SIB is a resource used to ventilate the patient through the inflation of the device, but it is not capable of measuring the ventilatory parameters. Excess ventilation and incorrect handling of the bag can cause lung injury in newborns. Therefore, measuring these parameters can prevent lung injury resulting from inadequate ventilation. Method: This is a cross-sectional and experimental study, with the development of a device SIB that allows the evaluation of variables of neonatal respiratory mechanics that were tested with an artificial lung. It was approved by the Research Ethics Committee and the research was developed in three stages: the first represents the search for scientific articles for the consensus of neonatal ventilatory variables for the construction of the SIB parameters;the second stage depicts the technological development of a device capable of monitoring such variables through the SIB. In the third stage, the content validation of the device with the handling of the SIB was carried out by students of medicine and physiotherapy courses of Brazil. Results: In this work, a device that analyzes the values of the main ventilatory parameters in neonatology was developed and to generate a safety range for the use of the device, curves with a tolerance of 10% up and down were created. All electronic components were coupled to the equipment, with a display that transmits the parameter values. Dadahup Swamp Irrigation Area (DIR) in Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan is developed for agricultural activities to provide food security after the pandemic. The water system consists of various channels, gates, and a flood embankment structure, which is also connected to three different rivers: Barito River, Mangkatif River, and Kapuas Mumpung River. To quantify flood risk assessments in the area, we perform a hydrodynamic analysis using the unsteady flow method via HEC-RAS software version 4.1.0. We use geometrical profiles from topography measurements and the outer boundary of the Dadahup DIR as input for the hydrologic model. Our results estimate the maximum surface water level from both cross and longitudinal sections in the channels and find that several points near the flood embankment area are prone to flood events. Our modeling approach provides a preliminary assessment for the local government to formulate a flood mitigation plan and policy in the area. © 2021 IEEE.

Nowadays, applications involving multiple robotic systems connected through a wireless network - to perform tasks together - have an increased research interest. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are excellent tools for evaluating and surveying distributed robotic systems applications due to their flexibility and three-dimensional mobility capability. Cooperative systems composed of multiples UAVs may have a centralized coordination which assists the members of a team to make their decisions in a distributed manner regarding the tasks to be performed. This paper proposes a system composed of embedded hardware and a high-level communication protocol that serves as a basis for identifying, distributing, and allocating tasks in a simple and distributed way to be used by groups of UAVs. The proposal is evaluated in a search and rescue scenario. The setup is configured with two types of UAVs - namely, searchers (search for new tasks) and workers (execution of tasks). Also, a set of nine simulation experiments covering three different setups were performed. Then the proposal is evaluated by two sets of field experiments with real vehicles. The obtained results in the proposed experiments demonstrate that the system can be successfully used in the proposed scenario for task distribution and allocation. © 2021 IEEE.

The safety of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) particularly in a charged state should be greatly improved by inhibiting the oxygen evolution at electrode surface. The main objective of this study is exploring the surface kinetic and electrochemical behavior of safety additives modified LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 (NMC) cathode material. Two additives (Polymer A and polymer B) are synthesized for the mitigation of thermal runaway without reducing battery performance. The optical measurement reveals that polymer B enhances the generation of peak at larger resonance angle. The accretions of surface heating temperature trigger increased binding constant from 2.7x104 to 4.8x104 M-1s-1. The results demonstrated that the superior irreversible capacity of Sample B ascribed to impeding Li+ transfer because of high cross-linked polymer B whereas, polymer A possibly initiates electrochemical self-polymerization and heating temperatures. Consequently, it forms a secondary protection layer and reduced the heat released from 319 to 110 Jg-1. The soft XAS revealed that upon fully charging the batteries, the un-reacted –NH group of polymer A contributed to spectral changes in sample A. Therefore, owing to the presence of – NH group, the cathode material treated with polymer A could undergo electrochemical reactions in first cycle and form secondary protective layer improved thermal stability and electrochemical performance comparing with cathode modified with polymer B. Therefore, this study investigated the development of optimum and appropriate working conditions for the better batteries performance and its safety. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The capability of the proper orthogonal decomposition for the simulation of heat transfer in building components is investigated via three applications: linear heat transfer (not coupled to mass transfer), mildly non-linear heat transfer (coupled to air and moisture transfer (hygroscopic)) and highly non-linear heat transfer (coupled to moisture transfer (capillary)). It is shown that increasing non-linearity leads to an increasing number of required construction modes. To further investigate the reason for this degrading performance of POD, the singular values' decay progress from the different training snapshots is addressed in this paper. The results confirm that a fast decay of the singular values implies a high interrelation of the snapshots and a better performance of the POD method. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. A method for obtaining appropriate reaction coordinates is required to identify transition states distinguishing product and reactant in complex molecular systems. Recently, abundant research has been devoted to obtaining reaction coordinates using artificial neural networks from deep learning literature, where many collective variables are typically utilized in the input layer. However, it is difficult to explain the details of which collective variables contribute to the predicted reaction coordinates owing to the complexity of the nonlinear functions in deep neural networks. To overcome this limitation, we used Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) methods of the Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanation (LIME) and the game theory-based framework known as Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP). We demonstrated that XAI enables us to obtain the degree of contribution of each collective variable to reaction coordinates that is determined by nonlinear regressions with deep learning for the committor of the alanine dipeptide isomerization in vacuum. In particular, both LIME and SHAP provide important features to the predicted reaction coordinates, which are characterized by appropriate dihedral angles consistent with those previously reported from the committor test analysis. The present study offers an AI-aided framework to explain the appropriate reaction coordinates, which acquires considerable significance when the number of degrees of freedom increases. Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have emerged as a promising class of photocatalysts with remarkable properties for diverse energy and environmental-related applications. This review offers insights into recent advances in LDH-based photocatalysts, focusing on their synthesis methods, structural properties, and photocatalytic performance. The unique structure of LDHs, characterized by positively charged metal hydroxide layers and intercalated anions, presents opportunities for tailoring their properties to enhance photocatalytic performance. The mechanisms for pollutant degradation, water splitting, and CO 2 reduction are discussed, along with strategies to enhance the efficacy and stability of LDH-based photocatalysts. The photocatalytic mechanisms of LDHs for various reactions, including pollutant degradation, water splitting, and CO 2 reduction, are discussed. Additionally, strategies for enriching the efficacy and stability of LDH-based photocatalysts are explored. This review underscores the significant potential of LDHs as versatile and efficient photocatalysts for addressing current environmental and energy challenges.
