With the popularization of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) in surveillance, delivery services, environmental monitoring, and increasingly other operational aspects, besides the need to take off and land, efficient traffic management becomes integral for assuring and securing further development and exploitation. Most of the existing traffic management systems for UAVs depend on traditional rule-based algorithms or simpler machine learning techniques, such as DQN or PPO. However, these systems also have enormous challenges: dynamic environments, high-density traffic, and robust decision-making over unpredictable weather and network conditions. In addition, the above traditional models usually experience difficulties in balancing exploration and exploitation, leading to suboptimal routing and enlarged collision risks in complicated urban airspaces. These challenges have driven us to develop a new proposal: a UA V traffic management framework based on Double Deep Q-Network (DDQN) combined with Instruction-Based Learning. In this approach, advanced learning for DDQN optimizes processes at decision-making points for UAVs. The model proposed herein, along with comprehensive simulations and quantitative analyses, demonstrated higher performance in terms of leadership and cumulative rewards while keeping lower training loss compared to the classical algorithms such as DQN, A3C, and PPO. At the same time, the DDQN model presented a better success rate (95%), as also reflected in the balanced precision-recall curve showing an area under the curve of 0.90, over others in the on-point prediction of UAVstate and safety margin of collision. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed DDQN-based framework significantly enhances UA V traffic management by optimizing energy consumption in complex airspaces and reducing the risk of collision. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper performs a classification task on data obtained from the Autism Brain Imaging data Exchange (ABIDE) repository. In real-world case analysis, the number of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) patients is much smaller than typically developed people. To address this issue, this paper proposes the utilization of pairwise robust support vector machine (PRSVM) algorithms to classify autism spectrum disorder (ASD) patients. In this project's experiments, the correlation matrix derived from functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data was employed as a classification feature. A comprehensive evaluation was conducted to compare the classification performance of PRSVM with various machine learning methods. The comparative analysis encompassed various aspects, including different data dimensions, imbalanced ratios, and sample sizes, providing valuable insights into the relative performance of the algorithms under different experimental conditions. The experimental results demonstrate that PRSVM can detect autistic patients more accurately when the data is imbalanced. Moreover, the results indicate that PRSVM outperforms or achieves comparable performance to other conventional classification methods in a variety of situations. Furthermore, our approach can be further improved by augmenting the training set with either exclusively normal person samples or by incorporating patient samples and normal people samples in a proportionate manner. This augmentation strategy holds promising application value, as it contributes to improving the performance and robustness of our method. © 2024 IEEE.

From Missing Pieces to Masterpieces: Image Completion with Context-Adaptive Diffusion

Image completion is a challenging task, particularly when ensuring that generated content seamlessly integrates with existing parts of an image. While recent diffusion models have shown promise, they often struggle with maintaining coherence between known and unknown (missing) regions. This issue arises from the lack of explicit spatial and semantic alignment during the diffusion process, resulting in content that does not smoothly integrate with the original image. Additionally, diffusion models typically rely on global learned distributions rather than localized features, leading to inconsistencies between the generated and existing image parts. In this work, we propose ConFill, a novel framework that introduces a Context-Adaptive Discrepancy (CAD) model to ensure that intermediate distributions of known and unknown regions are closely aligned throughout the diffusion process. By incorporating CAD, our model progressively reduces discrepancies between generated and original images at each diffusion step, leading to contextually aligned completion. Moreover, ConFill uses a new Dynamic Sampling mechanism that adaptively increases the sampling rate in regions with high reconstruction complexity. This approach enables precise adjustments, enhancing detail and integration in restored areas. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ConFill outperforms current methods, setting a new benchmark in image completion. © 1979-2012 IEEE.

Machine learning is a critical component of artificial intelligence and computer science that uses data and algorithms to emulate the way that humans learn and predict. Reinforcement learning, one of the many forms of machine learning, trains an agent through trial and error, with successful outcomes being rewarded and unsuccessful outcomes being penalized. The implementation of three reinforcement learning algorithms, Qlearning, Deep Q-Learning, and Double Deep Q-Learning, was tested using a series of ROS (Robot Operating System) packages in the Gazebo simulation environment. The Python openai-ros package and Gym libraries were used to input a robot into a configurable environment and test out the performance of a specific reinforcement learning algorithm. The agent's action space was discretized into three specific actions, move forward, turn left, or turn right, that the robot could take. The reward or punishment was given after each step based on if the current action moved the robot towards the goal state or away from it. For each algorithm, the agent was first pre-trained on an obstacle free environment for 200 episodes and then was placed in an environment with two box-shaped obstacles to avoid. The algorithm/neural network parameters from the pre-training environment were loaded prior to the agent being tested in the new environment. The goal state at each episode was randomly generated and the robot's performance was evaluated using the cumulative reward achieved per episode and the number of times it reached the goal. © 2024 IEEE.

A physics-informed transformer neural operator for learning generalized solutions of initial boundary value problems

Applications in physics, engineering, mechanics, and fluid dynamics necessitate solving nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) with different initial and boundary conditions. Operator learning, an emerging field, solves these PDEs by employing neural networks to map the infinite-dimensional input and output function spaces. These neural operators are trained using data (observations or simulations) and PDE residuals (physics loss). A key limitation of current neural methods is the need to retrain for new initial/boundary conditions and the substantial simulation data required for training. We introduce a physics-informed transformer neural operator (named PINTO) that generalizes efficiently to new conditions, trained solely with physics loss in a simulation-free setting. Our core innovation is the development of iterative kernel integral operator units that use cross-attention to transform domain points of PDE solutions into initial/boundary condition-aware representation vectors, supporting efficient and generalizable learning. PINTO is utilized to simulate important equations used in fluid mechanics, physics and engineering applications: advection, Burgers, and steady and unsteady Navier-Stokes equations (three flow scenarios). We show that under challenging unseen conditions, the relative errors compared to analytical or numerical (finite difference and volume) solutions are low, merely 20% to 33% of those obtained by other leading physics-informed neural operator methods. Furthermore, PINTO accurately solves advection and Burgers equations at time steps not present in the training points, an ability absent for other neural operators. Autonomous Robot Navigation in unknown and dynamic environments is considered one of the grand challenges in robotics. These motions that guide it span from rescue operations to planetary exploration. Classical methods for path planning, including A*, Dijkstra, and RRT, were unable to balance the efficiency and adaptability of motion planning over complex terrain. This may have a powerful solution using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) with advanced machine learning techniques to improve the ability of robotic navigation. This study proposes a GAN-based approach for designing an effective self-adaptive path planning and obstacle avoidance system for autonomous robots. Despite performing well in structured environments, traditional techniques normally fail in analysing the unstructured terrains with real-time adjustments and dynamic changes due to the high computational costs and lack of flexibility involved. In this regard, the proposed GAN-based system resolves these issues by rating navigation paths concerning safety and efficiency. Quantitative analysis demonstrates that within a forest, desert, urban, or off-road environment, the computational times by using the developed strategy turn out to be 0.12 seconds, 0.10 seconds, 0.14 seconds, and 0.13 seconds, respectively, behaving much lower than what can be achieved with other algorithms. This approach proves much superior in terms of computational efficiency path smoothness and adaptability under different environmental conditions in applications related to autonomous robot navigation systems. © 2024 IEEE.
