Keeping track of time is regarded as an essential human behavior. The question of how the brain deals with temporal information remains a subject of scholarly debate. The current investigation aims to explore the mechanism underlying time perception by extracting fractal dimension from an electroencephalogram (EEG) signal and its frequency bands. To accomplish this, Higuchi’s fractal dimension was calculated for 42 healthy subjects’ electroencephalogram (EEG) signal and its sub-bands during the time perception task. The EEG signal was recorded from 19 channels. Subsequently, a statistical analysis was conducted to compare participants who underestimated versus those who overestimated the elapsed time and significantly different channels were presented. The findings suggest an elevated level of fractal dimensionality in persons who displayed a tendency to overestimate time. The EEG signal and Gamma rhythm emerged as the most distinguishing signals between the two cohorts. The contrast in fractal dimension between the two groups was predominantly apparent in the parietal and central channels. To summarize, an increased level of complexity is discernible in the EEG signal and high-frequency rhythms when there is an overestimation of temporal duration. It can be asserted that the employment of FD yields presents an exceptional approach to comprehending cerebral functionalities, notably temporal perception. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

This article has indicated optical coherent differential polarization (DP) 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) transceiver systems with free-space optical (FSO) channel in the presence of differential coding scheme. The optical coherent DP 16-QAM receiver executes the reverse process conversion of the optical signal into an electrical one that is detected to the users. The proposed optical coherent DP-16 QAM transceiver systems based FSO channel model with differential coding has been presented and compared with the previous model. However, the simulation results have confidence realization about the superiority of the proposed simulation model. Hence the proposed optical coherent DP-16 QAM transceiver systems simulation model with differential coding is verified and validated the enhancement performance based on simulation performance parameters. © 2024 Walter de Gruyter GmbH. The objective of this work is to carry out a study to determine which TCP DoS attacks affect the network performance of a power electronic device (PED). For the purpose of the study, an experimental network consisting of two parts, a modeled part (created by using GNS3) and a real part, is set up. The modeled part of the experimental network is used to 'attack' the tested PED in the real network. The attacking has been done with different TCP DoS attacks - TCP SYN, TCP ACK, TCP FIN and TCP RST flood attacks. The flooding has been performed using the Kali Linux tools. Additionally, round trip delay was measured and traffic monitoring was done in the real part of the network. © 2023 IEEE.

With the extensive penetration of distributed renewable energy and self-interested prosumers,the emerging power market tends to enable user autonomy by bottom-up control and distributed *** paper is devoted to solving the specific problems of distributed energy management and autonomous bidding and peer-to-peer(P2P)energy sharing among prosumers.A novel cloud-edge-based We-Market is presented,where the prosumers,as edge nodes with independent control,balance the electricity cost and thermal comfort by formulating a dynamic household energy management system(HEMS).Meanwhile,the autonomous bidding is initiated by prosumers via the modified Stone-Geary utility *** the cloud center,a distributed convergence bidding(CB)algorithm based on consistency criterion is developed,which promotes faster and fairer bidding through the interactive iteration with the edge ***,the proposed scheme is built on top of the commercial cloud platform with sufficiently secure and scalable computing *** results show the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed We-Market,which achieves 15%cost reduction with shorter running *** analysis indicates better scalability,which is more suitable for largerscale We-Market implementation.

DeepFakes and face image manipulation methods have been widely distributed in the last few years and several techniques have been presented to check the authenticity of the face image and detect manipulation if exists. Most of the available manipulation detection techniques have been successfully applied to reveal one type of manipulation under specific conditions, however, many limitations and challenges can be encountered in this field. To overcome some limitations and challenges, this paper presents a new face image authentication (FIA) scheme based on Multi-Task Cascaded Conventional Neural Networks (MTCNN) and watermarking in Slantlet transform (SLT) domain. The proposed FIA scheme has three main algorithms that are face detection and selection, embedding, and extraction algorithms. Different block sizes have been used to divide the image into non-overlapping blocks followed by classifying them into two groups that are blocks from face area (FA) and blocks from the remaining area (RA) of the image. In the embedding algorithms, the authentication information is generated from FA blocks and embedded in the RA blocks. In the extraction algorithms, the embedded information is extracted from RA blocks and compared with the calculated data from FA blocks to reveal manipulations and localize the manipulated blocks if exist. Extensive experiments have been conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed FIA scheme for different face images. The experimental work included tests for payload, capacity, visual quality, time complexity, and localization of manipulations. The results proved the efficiency of the proposed scheme in detecting and localizing different face image manipulations such as attributes attacks, retouching attacks, expression swap, face swap, and morphing attacks. Smart home technology has made daily life easier, automated, and managed. IoT devices like smart speakers, cameras, thermostats, and security systems are increasingly integrated, raising security and privacy concerns. This study examines smart home devices' energy consumption, use trends, device failures, and system efficiency. This research uses smart home devices to identify consumption trends and risks. To better understand smart home ecosystems, the study will evaluate energy consumption, device usage hours, and malfunctions that can affect functionality and security. Using predictive analytics and machine learning, the researchers predict excessive energy usage and device problems. These methods identify trends and irregularities in smart home device operation to improve performance, efficiency, and security. This study investigates how user decisions, usage hours, and device age affect energy consumption, as well as how to identify optimization opportunities. The data analysis study contains statistical summaries and visualisations of device type, usage hours, energy consumption, user preferences, malfunction incidents, and device age. Machine learning algorithms such as linear regression and anomaly detection predict energy usage and locate anomalies. The data illustrate energy and device efficiency trends and recommend improvements to smart home security and effectiveness. This study addresses smart home device vulnerabilities and inefficiencies to improve smart home system optimization. The results offer smart home technology manufacturers and customers ways to improve energy efficiency, device performance, and system security. © 2024 IEEE.

The increasing dependence on smartphones with advanced sensors has highlighted the imperative of precise transportation mode classification, pivotal for domains like health monitoring and urban planning. This research is motivated by the pressing demand to enhance transportation mode classification, leveraging the potential of smartphone sensors, notably the accelerometer, magnetometer, and gyroscope. In response to this challenge, we present a novel automated classification model rooted in deep reinforcement learning. Our model stands out for its innovative approach of harnessing enhanced features through artificial neural networks (ANNs) and visualizing the classification task as a structured series of decision-making events. Our model adopts an improved differential evolution (DE) algorithm for initializing weights, coupled with a specialized agent-environment relationship. Every correct classification earns the agent a reward, with additional emphasis on the accurate categorization of less frequent modes through a distinct reward strategy. The Upper Confidence Bound (UCB) technique is used for action selection, promoting deep-seated knowledge, and minimizing reliance on chance. A notable innovation in our work is the introduction of a cluster-centric mutation operation within the DE algorithm. This operation strategically identifies optimal clusters in the current DE population and forges potential solutions using a pioneering update mechanism. When assessed on the extensive HTC dataset, which includes 8311 hours of data gathered from 224 participants over two years. Noteworthy results spotlight an accuracy of 0.88±0.03 and an F-measure of 0.87±0.02, underscoring the efficacy of our approach for large-scale transportation mode classification tasks. Kidney disease (KD) is a gradually increasing global health concern. It is a chronic illness linked to higher rates of morbidity and mortality, a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and numerous other illnesses, and expensive medical expenses. The machine learning (ML) models are applied for KD prediction with higher accuracy and precision. The KD dataset has uncertainty and vague information, so, we used the neutrosophic set (NS) to deal with vague and uncertainty information in the KD dataset. The KD dataset is converted into the N-KD dataset with three membership functions: truth, indeterminacy, and falsity. Three ML models are used in this study such as logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and k-nearest neighbor (KNN). These ML models are applied to the N-KD dataset. The results show the LR has higher accuracy and precision on the N-KD dataset than the original KD dataset. © 2025, University of New Mexico. All rights reserved.
