An ensemble based approach for violence detection in videos using deep transfer learning

The detection of violence in videos has become an extremely valuable application in real-life situations, which aim to maintain and protect people’s safety. Despite the complexities inherent in videos and the abrupt nature of violent actions, the field has seen several approaches, yet achieving consistent performance remains elusive, especially with advanced real-life datasets. Presenting a solution, the paper proposes a Bagging ensemble based approach comprising three pretrained models integrated with stacked Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) to enhance individual model performance. This ensemble approach is rigorously analyzed on two publicly accessible datasets, RLVS and RWF-2000, providing remarkable accuracy (96.6%, 92.7%) and F1-scores (96.6%, 93.0%). Additionally, a cross-dataset analysis demonstrates the model’s ability to generalize across diverse datasets. Furthermore, a study of ablation highlighting the efficacy and optimal selection of components in augmenting the proposed ensemble’s efficiency. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Seizure Prediction on EEG Signals using Feature Augmentation based Multi Model Ensemble

Background: Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that leads to seizures. This occurs due to excessive electrical discharge by the brain cells. An effective seizure prediction model can aid in improving the lifestyle of epilepsy patients. After analyzing various patents related to seizure prediction, it is observed that monitoring electroencephalography (EEG) signals of epileptic patients is an important task for the early diagnosis of seizures. Objective: The main objective of this paper is to assist epileptic patients to enhance their way of living by predicting the seizure in advance. Methods: This paper builds a feature augmentation-based multi-model ensemble-based architecture for seizure prediction. The proposed technique is divided into 2 broad categories;feature augmentation and ensemble modeling. The feature augmentation process builds temporal features while the multi-model ensemble has been designed to handle the high complexity levels of the EEG data. The first phase of the multi-model ensemble has been designed with heterogeneous classifier models. The second phase is based on the prediction results obtained from the first phase. Experiments were performed using the seizure prediction dataset from the University Hospital of Bonn. Results: Comparison indicates 98.7% accuracy, with improvement of 5% from the existing model. High prediction levels indicate that the model is highly capable of providing accurate seizure predictions, hence ensuring its applicability in real time. Conclusion: The result of this paper has been compared with existing methods of predicting seizures and it indicated that the proposed model has better enhancement in the accuracy levels. © 2025 Bentham science Publishers.

Implementation of ANN and response surface method for dual-fuel CI engine optimization and prediction using water infusion and biofuel

In this study, tests were done to see what would happen if hydrogen (H2) and lemon grass oil (LO) were used for a lone-cylinder compression ignition engine as a partial diesel replacement. After starting the trial with pure diesel, the engine was modified to run on two fuels by adding H2 through the inlet pipe and LO as direct injection (DI) gasoline. In this study, the energy fraction of H2 ranged from 5 to 10%. A 3% volume mixture of water (W) and diesel-LO mixtures was used to study how NOX emissions were affected. Using a common back- transmission method, an Artificial Neural Network model was created to forecast the correlation between engine output reactions and input variables (load, LO, and H2). The goal of response surface methodology is for improve the motor input settings for low pollution and high heat efficiency. The trials were designed using response surface methodology (RSM), and the optimization procedure was conducted using RSM. An artificial neural network (ANN) was used to predict the test engine’s emission patterns and performance. The results showed that ANN and RSM were both very good and accurate modeling strategies. When 10% H2 + LO25 was used, the BTE rose to 31%, up from 20% for clean LO and 28% for 12% H2 + LO25 + 2%W means. Compared to clean LO operation, the cylinder pressure raised in 15% H2 mode by up to 63 psi. The measured value for the HRR, under H2 premixed combustion framework was 81 k Joule/CA deg in 10% H2, that is significantly greater than the value for every LO processes. The highest NOX release for 10% H2 + LO 25% was discovered at 690 ppm peak load, while it dropped to 645 ppm in gasoline that had been emulsified in water. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Energy-Efficient Cell Association and Load Balancing for Low Battery Users in Heterogeneous Cellular Networks

The future Heterogeneous Cellular Network (HCN) is expected to fulfill the demand for the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, extended reality, connected vehicles and mobile gadgets. In HCN, the deployment of low power nodes inside the coverage area of a high power node yields the benefit of providing improved data rates to users by offloading a portion of users from a highly loaded high power node to relatively lightly loaded low power nodes. However, the offloading of users through conventional cell association schemes may not guarantee improved load balancing along with the energy efficiency (EE) of critical users such as user equipment (UE) with low battery power. This paper proposes improved cell association schemes based on the battery levels of UE and Deep Q-learning (DQL) to achieve load balancing and to decrease the power consumption of Low Battery Users (LBUs). The proposed approach combines UE battery levels with three conventional association schemes for improvement: minimum distance based cell association, maximum biased received power (MBRP), and maximum biased SINR (MBSINR). Results on cell association, load balancing, and EE of LBUs have been compared with conventional association schemes. The proposed battery based cell association models perform well in favor of LBUs and clearly show the significance of the proposed approach. © 2013 IEEE.

MTUNet + + : explainable few-shot medical image classification with generative adversarial network

Medical imaging, a cornerstone of disease diagnosis and treatment planning, faces the hurdles of subjective interpretation and reliance on specialized expertise. Deep learning algorithms show improvements in automating medical image analysis, reducing radiologists' burden, and potentially enhancing patient outcomes. However, these algorithms require substantial quantities of high-quality labelled data for effective training and refinement. This paper proposes an innovative approach that harnesses few-shot learning (FSL) and generative adversarial networks (GANs) to overcome conventional methods' limitations in medical image classification. FSL, capable of learning from limited labelled examples, holds promise for scenarios where labelled data is scarce. However, the lack of interpretability in existing FSL models impedes their clinical adoption. To tackle this, this paper proposes a explainable FSL network, "MTUNet + +," which integrates an attention mechanism to emphasize relevant regions in medical images. Furthermore, integrating a generative adversarial network, enhances the performance of MTUNet + + by generating synthetic medical images. Systematically eliminating misleading synthetic images improves the reliability and accuracy of medical image classification. Empirical evaluation on benchmark datasets underscores the effectiveness of the approach, achieving 85.19% and 69.28% accuracy for the HAM10000 and Kvasir datasets, respectively. Stability Enhancement of Grid Connected Power System Using Type-II Neurofuzzy Wavelet Control

Conventional methods like Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVRs) and Power System Stabilizers (PSSs) fall short of effectively damping Low-Frequency Oscillations (LFOs), necessitating the exploration of advanced solutions. This paper addresses the challenge of power system stability by utilizing advanced soft computing techniques in Supplementary Damping Control (SDC) for Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) to mitigate low frequency oscillations in multi-machine power system. The proposed Type-II NeuroFuzzy Wavelet Controls (NFWC) employ Gaussian Type-II membership functions, with uncertainties in mean and standard deviation parameters, in the antecedent part and Wavelet Neural Networks (WNNs) in the consequent part. A multi-machine power system with STATCOM is considered for the performance evaluation of the proposed controllers. The proposed Type-II NFWC-1 and Type-II NFWC-2 outperform Adaptive NeuroFuzzy TSK Control (ANFTSKC) in terms of convergence speed and damping performance. Type-II NFWC-2 exhibits and maintains its superior performance over Type-II NFWC-1 and ANFTSK, highlighting the effectiveness of incorporating additional uncertainty in both mean and standard deviation parameters. © The Author(s) under exclusive licence to Taiwan Fuzzy Systems Association 2025.

Multi-feature Fusion Deep Network for Skin Disease Diagnosis

The skin acts as an important barrier between the body and the external environment, playing a vital role as an organ. The application of deep learning in the medical field to solve various health problems has generated increasing interest. The objective of this research is to create a new model using a deep network with multi-feature fusion that enables accurate identification of various skin diseases. This paper proposes a fully fused network (FFN), which includes an improved single block (ISB) and an improved fusion block (IFB) to achieve optimal performance. To implement this, a convolutional neural network-based model for multi-class recognition of skin images has been developed, in which ISB is used to segment diseases in skin images. The IFB module is designed to enhance the effectiveness of the fused network. The model is built and evaluated using our proprietary dataset (Skin_disease_v1) along with publicly available datasets, namely ISIC2016, ISIC2017, and HAM10000. The highest accuracy achieved in experiments was 86% for ISB, 90% for IFB, and 92% for FFN using HAM10000 (for ResNet101V2), HAM10000 (for Resnet50 + ResNet101V2), and HAM10000 (for Resnet50 + ResNet101V2). This shows an accuracy improvement of 9.2%, 13.2%, and 15.2% compared to the state-of-the-art ISB, IFB, and FFN approaches, respectively. 3D brain image based tumor classification using ensemble of reinforcement transfer-based belief neural networks

The procedure of segmenting a brain tumour is an essential step in the field of medical image processing. In order to improve the efficacy of disease treatment choices and the likelihood of patient survival, the timely detection of a brain tumour is not only highly essential but a vital factor. For the purpose of cancer diagnosis, manually segmenting brain tumours from the large number of MRI images that are generated in clinical practice is a hard and time-consuming process. Automatic brain tumour image segmentation is a technique that absolutely has to exist. Using deep learning and machine learning architectures for segmentation and feature extraction, this research proposes a novel approach to the detection of brain tumours. In this case, the input consists of a collection of 3-D brain slice pictures that have been smoothed and with noise eliminated. After that, the picture that has been processed is segmented by using a convolutional radial function architecture that centres on contours. The segmented image features retrieval has been accomplished by the use of an ensemble of reinforcement transfer-based belief neural networks. The results of the experimental study have been completed with regard to precision, recall, accuracy, F-1 score, area under the curve, dice coefficient, and root mean square error. The strategy that was recommended was successful in achieving 97.57% accuracy, 97.15% precision, 89.37% recall, 83.56% F-1 score, 69.59% area under the curve, 63.83% dice coefficient, and 55.56% root mean square error. The sagittal, coronal, and axial planes of the pictures were shown in order to acquire the specific position of the tumour as well as its characteristics, which included its height, breadth, and depth. Privacy-preserving intrusion detection with federated learning: enhancing privacy and efficiency in IoT networks

Intrusion detection systems (IDS) are crucial in the identification of unauthorized activities on a digital network, enabling cybersecurity measures to initiate prevention protocols to protect the security of their networks and data. With Internet of Things (IoT) as a ubiquitous phenomenon, IDS has become increasingly important owing to the massive growth of connected devices. Machine learning algorithms can detect anomalies in large datasets, but centralized methods pose security risks by gathering all data in one place. Federated learning (FL) offers a safer alternative, allowing multiple clients to collaborate on a model without sharing data, reducing the risk of data leaks and enhancing privacy. In this paper, we propose a FL-based IDS. Herein, we have applied the FL approach to a number of clients that are grouped in sets where the number of clients in a set varies from 2 to 10. After that, we applied feature ranking via a random forest approach, wherein the features are ranked based on their importance to find the optimal and reduced dataset for reducing the inference time. Further, three models for each of the clients were trained using the refined dataset obtained. Next, the central server aggregates the data from the clients using three methods. We have updated the dataset with two types of scenarios, one with two classes (Benign and Attacks) and the second with a multi-class (Benign, Dodag, Flooding, Rank, Blackhole) for identifying the attack. Speech signal’s phase information based Alzheimer’s disease detection using deep learning

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder that affects millions worldwide. Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial for timely intervention and management, as it can significantly improve patient outcomes and quality of life. This study explores a novel deep learning approach for AD detection using speech analysis, a promising non-invasive technique. We analysed the performance of various feature types, including magnitude spectrograms, raw phase, modulated group delay (MGD), and instantaneous frequency (IF) phase, on custom Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and pre-trained ResNet50 models. The findings demonstrate that the magnitude spectrogram achieved the highest accuracy among single-input models. However, a dual-input model that combines magnitude and instantaneous frequency information from pre-trained ResNet50 models achieved superior performance, reaching an accuracy of 90%, precision of 95%, recall of 90%, and F1-score of 92.4%. This suggests that integrating magnitude and phase features effectively captures the nuances of speech patterns, leading to improved classification for AD detection. Moreover, the proposed approach outperforms previous state-of-the-art methods, highlighting its potential as a valuable tool for early AD diagnosis. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.
