Implementation of ANN and response surface method for dual-fuel CI engine optimization and prediction using water infusion and biofuel

In this study, tests were done to see what would happen if hydrogen (H2) and lemon grass oil (LO) were used for a lone-cylinder compression ignition engine as a partial diesel replacement. After starting the trial with pure diesel, the engine was modified to run on two fuels by adding H2 through the inlet pipe and LO as direct injection (DI) gasoline. In this study, the energy fraction of H2 ranged from 5 to 10%. A 3% volume mixture of water (W) and diesel-LO mixtures was used to study how NOX emissions were affected. Using a common back- transmission method, an Artificial Neural Network model was created to forecast the correlation between engine output reactions and input variables (load, LO, and H2). The goal of response surface methodology is for improve the motor input settings for low pollution and high heat efficiency. The trials were designed using response surface methodology (RSM), and the optimization procedure was conducted using RSM. An artificial neural network (ANN) was used to predict the test engine’s emission patterns and performance. The results showed that ANN and RSM were both very good and accurate modeling strategies. When 10% H2 + LO25 was used, the BTE rose to 31%, up from 20% for clean LO and 28% for 12% H2 + LO25 + 2%W means. Compared to clean LO operation, the cylinder pressure raised in 15% H2 mode by up to 63 psi. The measured value for the HRR, under H2 premixed combustion framework was 81 k Joule/CA deg in 10% H2, that is significantly greater than the value for every LO processes. The highest NOX release for 10% H2 + LO 25% was discovered at 690 ppm peak load, while it dropped to 645 ppm in gasoline that had been emulsified in water. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Multiview data fusion technique for missing value imputation in multisensory air pollution dataset

The missing readings in various sensors of air pollution monitoring stations is a common issue. Those missing sensor readings may greatly influence the performance of monitoring and analysis of air pollution data. To address this problem, in this paper, a multi-view based missing value (MV) imputation method called MVDI (Multi-View Data Imputation) is proposed for air pollution related time series data. MVDI combines four models namely LSTM (Long-Short Term Memory), IDS (Inverse Distance Squared), SVR (Support Vector Regressor), and KNN (K-Nearest Neighbors) to estimate MVs. These four models are mainly employed to capture the variations in data from different views of the dataset. Here, different views represent different portions (subsets) of the actual dataset. The estimates of MVs from all the views are combined using a kernel function to get an overall result. The proposed model MVDI is evaluated on real-world air pollution dataset in terms of RMSE, MAE, MAPE, and R2. The experimental results show that MVDI dominates over the baseline methods namely AR (AutoRegressive), ARIMA (AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average), RFR (Random Forest Regressor), ANN (Artificial Neural Network), LI (Linear Interpolation), NN (Nearest Neighbors), MI (Mean Imputation), CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), ConvLSTM (Convolutional LSTM). © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

MTUNet + + : explainable few-shot medical image classification with generative adversarial network

Medical imaging, a cornerstone of disease diagnosis and treatment planning, faces the hurdles of subjective interpretation and reliance on specialized expertise. Deep learning algorithms show improvements in automating medical image analysis, reducing radiologists' burden, and potentially enhancing patient outcomes. However, these algorithms require substantial quantities of high-quality labelled data for effective training and refinement. This paper proposes an innovative approach that harnesses few-shot learning (FSL) and generative adversarial networks (GANs) to overcome conventional methods' limitations in medical image classification. FSL, capable of learning from limited labelled examples, holds promise for scenarios where labelled data is scarce. However, the lack of interpretability in existing FSL models impedes their clinical adoption. To tackle this, this paper proposes a explainable FSL network, "MTUNet + +," which integrates an attention mechanism to emphasize relevant regions in medical images. Furthermore, integrating a generative adversarial network, enhances the performance of MTUNet + + by generating synthetic medical images. Systematically eliminating misleading synthetic images improves the reliability and accuracy of medical image classification. Empirical evaluation on benchmark datasets underscores the effectiveness of the approach, achieving 85.19% and 69.28% accuracy for the HAM10000 and Kvasir datasets, respectively. This paper contributes to advancing AI-driven solutions in clinical practice, facilitating enhanced patient care and streamlined workflows within real-world healthcare settings. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Spectral analysis of bone-conducted speech using modified linear prediction

This paper improves the performance of linear prediction (LP) in precise spectral estimation of bone-conducted (BC) speech. Inherently, BC speech contains a wide spectral dynamic range that causes ill conditioning in the autocorrelation (ACR) method and its variants, where the Levinson–Durbin (L–D) algorithm is commonly implemented. Instead of the conventional LP-based spectral estimation methods, we utilize the covariance-based method, specifically the modified covariance (MC) method, where the orthogonal decomposition algorithm is deployed. In this paper, we derive the MC method from the least squares (LS) technique for BC speech analysis. The MC method reduces the eigenvalue expansion that compresses the spectral dynamic range of the BC speech signal. The effect of spectral dynamic range compression declines the ill-conditioned properties of LP. Through the proposed method using synthetic BC speech, the resulting power spectrum provides more accurate peaks than the conventional methods. The validity of the proposed method is also analyzed by inspecting real BC speech. This study reveals the utmost use of BC speech in speech processing systems. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method provides more accurate spectral estimation for synthetic and real BC speeches compared with conventional spectral estimation methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

The Internet of Things(loT)has grown rapidly due to artificial intelligence driven edge *** enabling many new functions,edge computing devices expand the vulnerability surface and have become the target of malware ***,attackers have used advanced techniques to evade defenses by transforming their malware into functionality-preserving *** systematically analyze such evasion attacks and conduct a large-scale empirical study in this paper to evaluate their impact on *** specifically,we focus on two forms of evasion attacks:obfuscation and adversarial *** the best of our knowledge,this paper is the first to investigate and contrast the two families of evasion attacks *** apply 10 obfuscation attacks and 9 adversarial attacks to 2870 malware *** obtained findings are as follows.(1)Commercial Off-The-Shelf(COTS)malware detectors are vulnerable to evasion attacks.(2)Adversarial attacks affect COTS malware detectors slightly more effectively than obfuscated malware examples.(3)Code similarity detection approaches can be affected by obfuscated examples and are barely affected by adversarial attacks.(4)These attacks can preserve the functionality of original malware examples.

The transition from traditional energy or electrical grids to smart energy or electrical grids has significantly transformed energy management. This evolution emphasizes decentralization, efficiency, and sustainability in energy systems. However, it also introduces numerous risks, including cyber-physical system vulnerabilities and challenges in energy trading. The application of blockchain and Machine Learning (ML) offers potential solutions to these issues. Blockchain enhances energy transactions by making them safer, more transparent, and tamper-proof, while ML optimizes grid performance by improving predictions, fault detection, and anomaly identification. This systematic review examines the application of blockchain and ML in peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading within smart grids and analyzes how these technologies complement each other in mitigating risks and enhancing the efficiency of smart grids. Blockchain enhances security by providing privacy for transactions and maintaining immutable records, while ML predicts market trends, identifies fraudulent activities, and ensures efficient energy use. The paper identifies critical challenges in smart grids, such as unsecured communication channels and vulnerabilities to cyber threats, and discusses how blockchain and ML address these issues. Furthermore, the study explores emerging trends, such as lightweight blockchain systems and edge computing, to overcome implementation challenges. A new architecture is proposed, integrating blockchain with ML algorithms to create resilient, secure, and efficient energy trading markets. HandRT: Simultaneous Hand Shape and Appearance Reconstruction with Pose Tracking from Monocular RGB-D Video

We propose a method to reconstruct a personalized hand avatar, representing the user's hand shape and appearance, from a monocular RGB-D video of a hand performing unknown hand poses under unknown illumination. Our method, HandRT, jointly optimizes hand pose, shape, appearance, and lighting parameters using a physically-based shading model in a differentiable rendering framework incorporating Monte Carlo path tracing. HandRT extends our previous work, Intrinsic Hand Avatar, by relaxing the assumption of a known coarse hand pose and utilizing depth data in the optimization. Specifically, we introduce an articulated registration energy based on iterative closest point over the depth point cloud that enables reconstruction from unknown hand poses via tracking across frames. Thus, we can reconstruct the avatar from arbitrary poses with high accuracy without relying on an off-the-shelf 2D joint detector at each frame. Further, HandRT is capable of precisely tracking the reconstructed avatar from either RGB or RGB-D input. Our evaluation demonstrates that our method outperforms existing hand avatar reconstruction methods on all commonly used metrics while producing significantly accurate mesh compared to state-of-the-art hand mesh recovery methods by a large margin on public and our captured datasets. Feature engineering in learning-to-rank for community question answering task

Community question answering (CQA) forums are Internet-based platforms where users ask questions about a topic and other expert users try to provide solutions. Many CQA forums such as Quora, Stackoverflow, Yahoo!Answer, StackExchange exist with a lot of user-generated data. These data are leveraged in automated CQA ranking systems where similar questions (and answers) are presented in response to the user's query. In this work, we empirically investigate a few aspects of this domain. First, in addition to traditional features like Term Frequency (TF), Inverse Document Frequency (IDF), Best Match 25 (BM25), etc., we introduce a Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT)-based feature that captures the semantic similarity between the question and answer. Second, most of the existing research works have focus on features extracted only from the question part;features extracted from answers have not been explored extensively. We combine both types of features in a linear fashion. Third, using our proposed concepts, we conduct an empirical investigation with different rank-learning algorithms, some of which have not been used so far in CQA domain. On three standard CQA datasets, our proposed framework achieves state-of-the-art performance (0.56, 0.58 and 0.60 NDCG@10 values). We also analyze the importance of the features we use in our investigation.
