The last two decades has seen quantum thermodynamics become a well established field of research in its own right. In that time, it has demonstrated a remarkably broad applicability, ranging from providing foundational advances in the understanding of how thermodynamic principles apply at the nano-scale and in the presence of quantum coherence, to providing a guiding framework for the development of efficient quantum devices. Exquisite levels of control have allowed state-of-the-art experimental platforms to explore energetics and thermodynamics at the smallest scales which has in turn helped to drive theoretical advances. This Roadmap provides an overview of the recent developments across many of the field’s sub-disciplines, assessing the key challenges and future prospects, providing a guide for its near term progress. control methods based on sEMG obtained promising results for hand prosthetics. control system robustness is still often inadequate and does not allow the amputees to perform a large number of movements useful for everyday life. Only few studies analyzed the repeatability of sEMG classification of hand grasps. The main goals of this paper are to explore repeatability in sEMG data and to release a repeatability database with the recorded experiments. The data are recorded from 10 intact subjects repeating 7 grasps 12 times, twice a day for 5 days. The data are publicly available on the Ninapro web page. The analysis for the repeatability is based on the comparison of movement classification accuracy in several data acquisitions and for different subjects. The analysis is performed using mean absolute value and waveform length features and a Random Forest classifier. The accuracy obtained by training and testing on acquisitions at different times is on average 27.03% lower than training and testing on the same acquisition. The results obtained by training and testing on different acquisitions suggest that previous acquisitions can be used to train the classification algorithms. The inter-subject variability is remarkable, suggesting that specific characteristics of the subjects can affect repeatibility and sEMG classification accuracy. In conclusion, the results of this paper can contribute to develop more robust control systems for hand prostheses, while the presented data allows researchers to test repeatability in further analyses.

High power consumption and expensive hardware are two bottlenecks for practical massive multiple-input multipleoutput (mMIMO) systems. One promising solution is to employ low-resolution analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and digital-toanalog converters (DACs). In this paper, we consider a general multipair mMIMO relaying system with a mixed-ADC/DAC architecture, in which some antennas are connected to lowresolution ADCs/DACs, while the rest of the antennas are connected to high-resolution ADCs/DACs. Leveraging on the additive quantization noise model, both exact and approximate closed-form expressions for the achievable rate are derived. It is shown that the achievable rate can approach the unquantized one by using only 2-3 bits of resolutions. Moreover, a power scaling law is presented to reveal that the transmit power can be scaled down inversely proportional to the number of antennas at the relay. We further propose an efficient power allocation scheme by solving a complementary geometric programming problem. In addition, a trade-off between the achievable rate and power consumption for different numbers of low-resolution ADCs/DACs is investigated by deriving the energy efficiency. Our results reveal that the large antenna array can be exploited to enable the mixed- ADC/DAC architecture, which significantly reduces the power consumption and hardware cost for practical mMIMO systems. Background: The sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36). Elsewhere, the incidence remained stable or increased, whereas deaths generally decreased. This paper is concerned with the Hcontrol problem for two-dimensional（2-D） stochastic systems with randomly occurring nonlinearity. The randomly occurring nonlinearity is modeled by using a Bernoulli random variable with known occurrence probability, which can characterize the phenomenon that the nonlinear disturbance may occur in a probabilistic way. Our attention is focused on the design of a probability-dependent gain-scheduling controller such that both the globally asymptotical stability in the mean-square sense and the Hperformance of the closed-loop 2-D system can be simultaneously guaranteed. Instead of the rigid gains of the traditional controller, the structure of the constructed 2-D controller is of a special form which depends on the time-varying probability of the randomly occurrence nonlinearity. By constructing a energy-like quadratic function, suf cient conditions are established to ensure the desired performance requirements. The obtained matrix inequalities can be readily solved by using the Matlab Toolbox. Finally, an illustrative example is provided to show the feasibility and usefulness of the developed gain-scheduling control scheme.

During April 7–21 2020, KAGRA conducted its first scientific observation in conjunction with the GEO600 detector. The dominant noise sources during this run were found to be suspension control noise in the low-frequency range and acoustic noise in the mid-frequency range. In this study, we show that their contributions in the observational data can be reduced by a signal processing method called independent component analysis (ICA). The model of ICA is extended from that studied in the initial KAGRA data analysis to account for frequency dependence, while the linearity and stationarity of the coupling between the interferometer and the noise sources are still assumed. We identify optimal witness sensors in the application of ICA, leading to successful mitigation of these two dominant contributions. We also analyze the stability of the transfer functions for the entire two weeks of data to investigate the applicability of the proposed subtraction method in gravitational wave searches.

Attempting to build a uniform theory of mobility-dependent characterization of wireless communications systems, in this paper, we address time-dependent analysis of the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) in device-to-device (D2D) communications scenario. We first introduce a general kinetic-based mobility model capable of representing the movement process of users with a wide range of mobility characteristics including conventional, fractal and even non-stationary ones. We then derive the time-dependent evolution of mean, variance and coefficient of variation of SIR metric. We demonstrate that under non-stationary mobility behavior of communicating entities the SIR may surprisingly exhibit stationary behavior. © 2017, Springer International Publishing AG.

KAGRA is a newly built gravitational wave observatory, a laser interferometer with a 3 km arm length, located in Kamioka, Gifu prefecture, Japan. In this article, we describe the KAGRA data management system, i.e., recording of data, transfer from the KAGRA experiment site to computing resources, as well as data distribution to tier sites, including international sites in Taiwan and Korea. The amount of KAGRA data exceeded 1.0 PiB and increased by about 1.5 TB per day during operation in 2020. Our system has succeeded in data management, and has achieved performance that can withstand observations after 2023, that is, a transfer rate of 20 MB s-1or more and file storage of sufficient capacity for petabyte class. We also discuss the sharing of data between the global gravitational-wave detector network with other experiments, namely LIGO and Virgo. The latency, which consists of calculation of calibrated strain data and transfer time within the global network, is very important from the view of multi-messenger astronomy using gravitational waves. Real-time calbrated data delivered from the KAGRA detector site and other detectors to our computing system arrive with about 4–15 seconds of latency. These latencies are sufficiently short compared to the time taken for gravitational wave event search computations. We also established a high-latency exchange of offline calibrated data that was aggregated with a better accuracy compared with real-time data.

We propose a pure 0-1 formulation for the wireless network design problem, i.e. the problem of configuring a set of transmitters to provide service coverage to a set of receivers. In contrast with classical mixed integer formulations, where power emissions are represented by continuous variables, we consider only a finite set of powers values. This has two major advantages: it better fits the usual practice and eliminates the sources of numerical problems which heavily affect continuous models. A crucial ingredient of our approach is an effective basic formulation for the single knapsack problem representing the coverage condition of a receiver. This formulation is based on the GUB cover inequalities introduced by Wolsey (1990) and its core is an extension of the exact formulation of the GUB knapsack polytope with two GUB constraints. This special case corresponds to the very common practical situation where only one major interferer is present. We assess the effectiveness of our formulation by comprehensive computational results over realistic instances of two typical technologies, namely WiMAX and DVB-T. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. During the past 60 years scientific research proposed many techniques to control robotic hand prostheses with surface electromyography (sEMG). Few of them have been implemented in commercial systems also due to limited robustness that may be improved with multimodal data. This paper presents the first acquisition setup, acquisition protocol and dataset including sEMG, eye tracking and computer vision to study robotic hand control. A data analysis on healthy controls gives a first idea of the capabilities and constraints of the acquisition procedure that will be applied to amputees in a next step. Different data sources are not fused together in the analysis. Nevertheless, the results support the use of the proposed multimodal data acquisition approach for prosthesis control. The sEMG movement classification results confirm that it is possible to classify several grasps with sEMG alone. sEMG can detect the grasp type and also small differences in the grasped object (accuracy: 95%). The simultaneous recording of eye tracking and scene camera data shows that these sensors allow performing object detection for grasp selection and that several neurocognitive parameters need to be taken into account for this. In conclusion, this work on intact subjects presents an innovative acquisition setup and protocol. The first results in terms of data analysis are promising and set the basis for future work on amputees, aiming to improve the robustness of prostheses with multimodal data.
