On ${\mathcal H}_{\infty }$ Finite-Horizon Filtering Under Stochastic Protocol: Dealing With High-Rate Communication Networks

This paper is concerned with the H ∞ filtering problem for a class of time-varying nonlinear delayed system under high-rate communication network and stochastic protocol (SP). The communication between the sensors and the state estimator is implemented via a shared high-rate communication network in which multiple transmissions are generated between two adjacent sampling instants of sensors. At each transmission instant, only one sensor is allowed to get access to the communication network in order to avoid data collisions and the SP is employed to determine which sensor obtains access to the network at a certain instant. The mapping technology is applied to characterize the randomly switching behavior of the data transmission resulting from the utilization of the SP. The aim of the problem addressed is to design an estimator such that the H ∞ disturbance attenuation level is guaranteed for the estimation error dynamics over a given finite horizon. Sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of the finite-horizon filter satisfying the prescribed H ∞ performance requirement, and the explicit expression of the time-varying filter gains is characterized by resorting toa set of recursive matrix inequalities. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed filter design scheme.

Directional data emerge in many scientific disciplines due to the nature of the observed phenomena or the working principles of a sensor. The problem of tracking with direction-only sensors is challenging since the motion of the target typically resides either in 3D or 2D Euclidean space, while the corresponding measurements reside either on the unit sphere or the unit circle, respectively. Furthermore, in multitarget tracking there is the need to deal with the problem of pairing sensors measurements with targets in the presence of clutter (the data association problem). In this paper we propose to approach multitarget tracking in clutter with directiononly data by setting it on the unit hypersphere, thus tracking the objects with a Bayesian estimator based on the von Mises-Fisher distribution and probabilistic data association. To achieve this goal we derive the probabilistic data association (PDA) filter and the joint probabilistic data association (JPDA) filter for the Bayesian von Mises-Fisher estimation on the unit hypersphere. The final PDA and JPDA filter equations are derived with respect to the Kullback-Leibler divergence by preserving the first moment of the hyperspherical distribution. Although the fundamental equations are given for the hyperspherical case, we focus on the filters on the unit 1-sphere (circle in 2) and the unit 2-sphere (surface of the unit ball in 3). The proposed approach is validated through synthetic data experiments on 100 Monte Carlo runs simulating multitarget tracking with noisy directional measurements and clutter. © 2016 JAIF.

Every year the fire disaster always causes a lot of casualties and property damage. Many researchers are involved in the study of related disaster prevention. Early warning systems and stable fire can significantly reduce the damage caused by fire. Many existing image-based early warning systems can perform well in a particular field. In this paper, we propose a general framework that can be applied in most realistic environments. The proposed system is based on a block-based feature extraction method, which analyses local information in separate regions leading to a reduction in computing data. Local features of fire block are extracted from the detailed characteristics of fire objects, which include fire color, fire source immobility, and disorder. Each local feature has high detection rate and filter out different false-positive cases. Global analysis with fire texture and non-moving properties are applied to further reduce false alarm rate. The proposed system is composed of algorithms with low computation. Through a series of experiments, it can be observed that Experimental results show that the proposed system has higher detection rate and low false alarm rate under various environment.

A stochastic LQ problem with multiplicative noises and transmission delay is studied in this paper, which does not require any definiteness constraint on the cost weighting matrices. From some abstract representations of the system and cost functional, the solvability of this LQ problem is characterized by some conditions with operator form. Based on these, necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the case with a fixed time-state initial pair and the general case with all the time-state initial pairs. For both cases, a set of coupled discrete-time Riccati-like equations can be derived to characterize the existence and the form of the delayed optimal control. In particular, for the general case with all the initial pairs, the existence of the delayed optimal control is equivalent to the solvability of the Riccati-like equations with some algebraic constraints, and both of them are also equivalent to the solvability of a set of coupled linear matrix equality-inequalities. Note that both the constrained Riccati-like equations and the linear matrix equality-inequalities are introduced for the first time in the literature for the proposed LQ problem. Furthermore, the convexity and the uniform convexity of the cost functional are fully characterized via certain properties of the solution of the Riccati-like equations. Chimera states in spatiotemporal dynamical systems have been investigated in physical, chemical, and biological systems, and have been shown to be robust against random perturbations. How do chimera states achieve their robustness? We uncover a self-adaptation behavior by which, upon a spatially localized perturbation, the coherent component of the chimera state spontaneously drifts to an optimal location as far away from the perturbation as possible, exposing only its incoherent component to the perturbation to minimize the disturbance. A systematic numerical analysis of the evolution of the spatiotemporal pattern of the chimera state towards the optimal stable state reveals an exponential relaxation process independent of the spatial location of the perturbation, implying that its effects can be modeled as restoring and damping forces in a mechanical system and enabling the articulation of a phenomenological model. Not only is the model able to reproduce the numerical results, it can also predict the trajectory of drifting. Our finding is striking as it reveals that, inherently, chimera states possess a kind of "intelligence" in achieving robustness through self adaptation. The behavior can be exploited for controlled generation of chimera states with their coherent component placed in any desired spatial region of the system. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. In this paper, we investigate a class of time-inconsistent discrete-time stochastic linear-quadratic optimal control problems, whose time-consistent solutions consist of an open-loop equilibrium control and a linear feedback equilibrium strategy. The open-loop equilibrium control is defined for a given initial pair, while the linear feedback equilibrium strategy is defined for all the initial pairs. Maximum-principle-type necessary and sufficient conditions containing stationary and convexity are derived for the existence of these two time-consistent solutions, respectively. Furthermore, for the case where the system matrices are independent of the initial time, we show that the existence of the open-loop equilibrium control for a given initial pair is equivalent to the solvability of a set of nonsymmetric generalized difference Riccati equations and a set of linear difference equations. This paper presents a platform built to demonstrate the functionality of a trajectory planning algorithm intended for optimal sampling of spatial phenomena. The installation of this algorithm on a rover is the first step in a series of integration instances with various autonomous vehicles. The platform, consisting of a mobile unit (a skid-steer rover equipped with an autopilot module, onboard computer, radio frequency (RF) sensing unit, and a GPS/Magnetometer sensor) and static RF transmission modules frequently emitting empty packets, simulates expected implementation on larger-scale systems. Using the "Received Signal Strength Indication" (RSSI) from the broadcast packets received by the mobile platform from the arbitrarily placed static RF transmitters, a software recreation of the data field takes place, and a global maximum is sought by the trajectory planning algorithm to go towards during the course of traversal. Recreation of the rover’s traversal demonstrates the tendency of the trajectories towards the global maximum in an efficient manner. © 2016, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. The main goal of this paper is applying the cut-off projection for solving one-dimensional backward heat conduction problem in a two-slab system with a perfect contact. In a constructive manner, we commence by demonstrating the Fourier-based solution that contains the drastic growth due to the high-frequency nature of the Fourier series. Such instability leads to the need of studying the projection method where the cut-off approach is derived consistently. In the theoretical framework, the first two objectives are to construct the regularized problem and prove its stability for each noise level. Our second interest is estimating the error in L2-norm. Another supplementary objective is computing the eigen-elements. All in all, this paper can be considered as a preliminary attempt to solve the heating/cooling of a two-slab composite system backward in time. In this work, a reservoir simulation approximation model (proxy) based on recurrent artificial neural networks is proposed. This model is intended to obtain rates of oil, gas and water production at time t+1 from the respective production rates, average pressure and water cut at t time and the well operation points to be applied in t + 1. Also, this model is able to follow the dynamics of the reservoir system applying online learning from real production observed values. Also, this model allows perform fast and accurate production forecasting for several steps using a recursive mechanism. This model will be inserted into an oil-production control tool to find the optimal operation conditions within a forecast horizon. The obtained outcomes over the approximation tests indicate the methodology is adequate to perform production forecasts. © 2016 IEEE.
