The specific relationships between the classical pole-placement state feedback, the RICCATI equation based LQ paradigm and the KALMAN frequency domain approach are discussed. It is shown that arbitrary pole placement is not possible by standard LQ optimality. A possible solution of this anomaly is to use more general LQ criterion with specific weights on the state, input and crossterm.

The control error in a generic two-degree of freedom (TDOF) control system can be decomposed into three major parts: design-, realizability- and modeling-loss. This new decomposition opens useful ways for practical optimization of TDOF systems and helps the construction of new algorithms for robust identification and control. The paper investigates the optimality of the third term.

This paper presents the investigation on the performance of active suspension system in the electric vehicle (EV) conversion, controlled by the stability augmentation system algorithm [9] and a newly proposed SAS-Skyhook algorithm. The evaluations were done using a validated 7-degrees-freedom (7DOF) of vehicle's ride model. The mathematical modelling of the vehicle model is described. A worst case scenario of random road profiles was considered to evaluate the performance of the active suspension system. The method of subjecting the random road profiles input is also described. It was found that in general, the active suspension improved the EV conversion's ride comfort performance significantly, compared to the passive suspension system. In terms of the comparison between the active suspension system controlled by the SAS and SAS-Skyhook algorithms, the ride comfort performance provided by the SAS-Skyhook algorithm is the most significant. © 2012 SICE.

While the damping of a common cabin of a commercial vehicle is realized with hydraulic based dampers integrated into the air springs of the suspension, the damping forces of the realized active cabin suspension are generated by varying the mass of air inside the air spring volume. To achieve a high bandwidth of vibration suppression, the mass flow of compressed air is controlled using fast switching valves. To design the force controller, the air spring force has to be known for the feedback. Due to the limited design space and to reduce costs, an observer based concept is chosen, utilizing the already available sensor signals for displacement and acceleration. To ensure an accurate and high dynamic force estimation, two nonlinear state estimator concepts are introduced, which are both capable of considering noisy signals as well. The comparison between estimation results and measured signals shows a good correlation. By use of a superimposed vibration control, the cabin accelerations can be reduced by applying optimal damping forces, which is proven by measurements.

This paper proposes the importance of emotion technology for future technology. Emotion technology is absolutely necessary for real human being in future technology such as robot, culture, and design etc. However, it is very difficult to approach and expression effectively emotion function in engineering. Visual system (static and moving status), sound system, and tactile sense can express by physical sensor. However, there are some difficulties about how we can express feeling like human being's hart in engineering. Therefore, those who work in science have to cooperate with researcher in quite difference area such as, literature, designer, psychologist, philosopher, musician, material science, and etc.
