Near-field Source Localization in 3-D Using Two Parallel Centrally Symmetric Unfold Coprime Array

Most near-field (NF) localization algorithms cannot deal with the underdetermined case, while those which can are computationally expensive due to employment of fourth-order cumulants. In this work, a low-complexity solution is provided for underdetermined three-dimensional (3-D) NF localization, by employing second-order statistics with a tailored array configuration named two parallel centrally symmetric unfold coprime (TPSC) array. Its implementation can be divided into three stages. Firstly, the proposed algorithm constructs two cross-correlation matrices based on the received array data, which eliminates the non-linear range-related information of NF signals. Secondly, covariance and vectorization operations are applied to these two cross-correlation matrices to form a virtual array with extended aperture. Finally, the two-dimensional (2-D) angle parameters are estimated by the sparse and parametric approach (SPA) and a phase retrieval operation, and then the one-dimensional (1-D) range parameter is achieved by the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm. One specific feature is that the estimated angle and range parameters are matched automatically. An analysis of the properties of the TPSC array is provided, and an optimal parameter configuration is derived, given that the total number of array elements is fixed. Simulation results demonstrate that the designed TPSC array can achieve underdetermined 3-D NF localization, and deliver enhanced estimation capabilities, surpassing those of established algorithms. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Unlocking the potential of advanced imaging techniques, this study proposes an improved version of TransUNet, which includes a Multi-Scale Attention Module and Cross-Modality Adaptation, enabling the unleashing of advanced imaging for the segmentation of tumors in the breast. Our model is designed to cope with the challenges related to DBT, MRI, and ultrasound, capturing both fine and large-scale tumor features while generalizing seamlessly to multiple imaging modalities. The experimental results have shown that the performance of the proposed model outperforms all state-of-the-art methods with a Dice score of 65.50%, mIoU of 60.30%, and HD95 of 6.00 mm, while it still keeps computationally efficient: 25.40G FLOPs and 43.50M parameters, which makes it very promising for large-scale clinical deployment.

In this correspondence, we propose a movable antenna (MA)-aided multi-user hybrid beamforming scheme with a sub-connected structure, where multiple movable sub-arrays can independently change their positions within different local regions. To maximize the system sum rate, we jointly optimize the digital beamformer, analog beamformer, and positions of sub-arrays, under the constraints of unit modulus, finite movable regions, and power budget. Due to the non-concave/non-convex objective function/constraints, as well as the highly coupled variables, the formulated problem is challenging to solve. By employing fractional programming, we develop an alternating optimization framework to solve the problem via a combination of Lagrange multipliers, penalty method, and gradient descent. Numerical results reveal that the proposed MA-aided hybrid beamforming scheme significantly improves the sum rate compared to its fixed-position antenna (FPA) counterpart. Moreover, with sufficiently large movable regions, the proposed scheme with sub-connected MA arrays even outperforms the fully-connected FPA array. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

This study examines solar water pumping systems with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to fill a gap in the literature. PLC-based automation can improve these systems’ reliability and efficiency. However, PLC integration with sensors, actuators, and pumps, power consumption optimization, maintenance, and cost-effectiveness prevent their broad implementation. This work analyses two configurations: a DC-DC boost converter-based MPPT solar water pump control scheme and a thorough PLC-based water pumping component research. A well-designed DC-DC boost converter provides motor voltage. This MATLAB-supported method uses solar panels and pumps to solve water scarcity and conserve energy in developing nations.

Secure aggregation is motivated by federated learning (FL) where a cloud server aims to compute an averaged model (i.e., weights of deep neural networks) of the locally-trained models of numerous clients, while adhering to data security requirements. Hierarchical secure aggregation (HSA) extends this concept to a three-layer network, where clustered users communicate with the server through an intermediate layer of relays. In HSA, beyond conventional server security, relay security is also enforced to ensure that the relays remain oblivious to the users’ inputs (an abstraction of the local models in FL). Existing study on HSA assumes that each user is associated with only one relay, limiting opportunities for coding across inter-cluster users to achieve efficient communication and key generation. In this paper, we consider HSA with a cyclic association pattern where each user is connected to B consecutive relays in a wrap-around manner. We propose an efficient aggregation scheme which includes a message design for the inputs inspired by gradient coding-a well-known technique for efficient communication in distributed computing-along with a highly nontrivial security key design. We also derive novel converse bounds on the minimum achievable communication and key rates using information-theoretic arguments. Specifically, we characterize the optimal rate region for B ≤ K − 1, as a result of the matching converse and achievable scheme, which shows that to securely compute one symbol of the desired input sum, each user needs to send at least 1 symbol to the associated relays, each relay needs to send at least 1/B symbols to the server, each user needs to hold at least 1/B secret key symbols, and all users need to collectively hold at least max{1, K/B−1} independent key symbols. Our results reveal a fundamental inverse trade-off between the association number B and the communication and key rates. When B = K, we present a scheme that achieves the optimal communication and

LLM4WM: Adapting LLM for Wireless Multi-Tasking

The wireless channel is fundamental to communication, encompassing numerous tasks collectively referred to as channel-associated tasks. These tasks can leverage joint learning based on channel characteristics to share representations and enhance system design. To capitalize on this advantage, LLM4WM is proposed—a large language model (LLM) multi-task fine-tuning framework specifically tailored for channel-associated tasks. This framework utilizes a Mixture of Experts with Low-Rank Adaptation (MoE-LoRA) approach for multi-task fine-tuning, enabling the transfer of the pre-trained LLM’s general knowledge to these tasks. Given the unique characteristics of wireless channel data, preprocessing modules, adapter modules, and multi-task output layers are designed to align the channel data with the LLM’s semantic feature space. Experiments on a channel-associated multi-task dataset demonstrate that LLM4WM outperforms existing methodologies in both full-sample and few-shot evaluations, owing to its robust multi-task joint modeling and transfer learning capabilities. Simultaneous consideration of uniform degrees of freedom (uDOF) and mutual coupling is a key focus in sparse array design. To reduce mutual coupling and increase degrees of freedom (DOF), a bilateral multi-subarray coprime array (BMSCA) is proposed with its specific hole locations in the difference co-array (DCA). To address the holes in the central DCA, an additional subarray is incorporated, resulting in the bilateral multi-subarray padded coprime array (BMSPCA), which substantially increases both DOF and uDOF. Additionally, the first three weight functions and the optimal structure are determined for BMSPCA. As an application, BMSPCA is applied to multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar with sum-difference co-array, where the holes in DCA and virtual sparse sensors can be divided into similar layers and exhibit symmetry;specific sparse arrays that exhibit similar symmetrical properties are then identified, which can fundamentally enhance the uDOF of MIMO radar. Simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of both the proposed array and the sparse MIMO array in scenarios with strong mutual coupling. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

This paper presents the design of a miniaturized metamaterial reflector composing of an open-loop transmission line unit cell structure. The transmission line ends are connected by using a double interdigital technique, resulting in a large capacitive value compared to the conventional methods. When combined with the open-loop line employing the trisection step-impedance structure with adjusting of the capacitive value, its second and third resonant frequencies will be controllable. As a result, this approach can reduce the unit cell size from a typical value of λ/2 to an approximate value of λ/16, therefore overall size of the reflector is significantly decreased. The designed unit cell is measured to be 1.05 cm × 1.0 cm. We implemented the proposed reflector on an FR-4 PCB with a relative permittivity of about 4.4, a substrate height (h) of 1.6 mm, and a loss tangent of about 0.02. The operating frequency range targets of 5G use cases were set to be at 1.8 GHz, 2.6 GHz and 3.5 GHz, respectively. When used with a dipole antenna, the bandwidths of 390 MHz, 604 MHz, and 1.1 GHz and the antenna gains of about 8.23 dB, 8.14 dB, and 8.19 dB were obtained at the operating frequencies, respectively.

A deep learning (DL) based approach for near-field (NF) source localization is introduced to enhance the accuracy and robustness in both direction of arrival (DOA) and range estimation. The received data is first preprocessed by leveraging temporal and spatial correlation of the incident signals and symmetry of the employed cross array. This preprocessing step achieves parameter decoupling, reduces mutual interference between different features and simplifies the model training process. Next, a feature fusion extraction network (FFEN) is proposed, which mainly consists of a feature fusion network (FFN) and a feature extraction network (FEN). Adopting a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) model structure, FFEN transforms the NF parameter estimation problem into a multi-task learning problem. The network adopts a dual-branch strategy for processing input data, which enables the extraction and learning of diverse parameter features from the data stream, thereby acquiring comprehensive information of all parameters of interest. Utilizing residual connections and introducing attention mechanisms allows the network to focus on important features within the input data, avoiding issues like gradient vanishing and network degradation, and subsequently, the three branches output labels for different parameters separately. This design ensures the network's efficiency and accuracy when dealing with complex multi-task learning problems. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves high-precision parameter estimation with good generalization capabilities, and it also outperforms traditional model-driven approaches. © 2015 IEEE.

The evolution of healthcare systems worldwide necessitates continual improvement in hospital management practices, particularly pharmaceutical management. This paper explores transforming traditional pharmaceutical management systems in large and medium-sized hospitals in Thailand into smart systems using Value Stream Mapping (VSM) as a guiding tool. Traditional systems often face challenges such as inefficiencies and medication errors. VSM, rooted in lean management principles, offers a structured approach to visualize and optimize processes. Additionally, smart technologies like automated inventory systems and electronic health records enhance pharmaceutical management effectiveness. Through a comprehensive research methodology encompassing case studies, data collection, and VSM analysis, this study identifies inefficiencies and proposes evidence-based strategies for improvement. Results from a case study highlight the benefits of VSM implementation in enhancing pharmacy operations, emphasizing improved patient care and operational efficiency. The implementation of a smart medication dispensing system shows promising results in reducing workload and accommodating increased patient arrivals. Continued evaluation and refinement are crucial for maximizing benefits and addressing emerging challenges effectively.
