This paper presents an intelligent approach to the design and simulation of a conventional civil aircraft fuel system using fuzzy logic. The development is focused on the center of gravity balance problem in a plane, i.e., fuel re-distribution between several tanks during a complete operation (ground and flight). Additionally, the controller must guarantee the fuel feeding to the engines and allows the tanks refueling. Due to the problem characteristics we have selected fuzzy technique in order to design a controller with the appropriate features to accomplish all requirements. To make it more efficient, the rule base is reduced to simplify the design problem without loss of generality. Simulation results are encouraging. © 2014, World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte Ltd. The aim of this article is to analyse the results obtained when using a genetic algorithm (GA) to optimise the interplanetary trajectory of a spacecraft. The desired trajectory should visit Saturn, after performing a gravitational assistance or fly-by in planet Mars. The GA tunes a set of variables, in order to achieve the mission purpose while satisfying the constraints and minimizing the delta-V of the mission. Due to the complexity of the implemented models and the lack of analytical solutions, an alternative non-traditional algorithm provided by soft-computing techniques such as GA is necessary to achieve an optimum solution. The positions of planets as provided by Jet Propulsion Laboratory have been considered. A variable mutation rate has been implemented that broadens the search area whenever the population becomes uniform. The results are very useful from the point of view of mission analysis and therefore can be used as an initial guess for further optimizations. They can also be the first step for a more refined analysis and time-consuming simulations based on more complex models of orbital perturbations. © 2010 IEEE.

The mathematical models used in simulation must be reliable and trustworthy enough to describe the real systems with an appropriate accuracy. This simulation process is specially important in marine environment due to the changing environmental conditions, to the cost of the infrastructure needed to carry out tests, and to the need of calibration, deployment and recovery of the marine systems. If a reliable mathematical model of the vehicle is available, a part of the experimental tests can be avoided. In this paper we present a system identification technique based on genetic programming, the symbolic regression, to be applied on marine systems. In this sense, we show that it is possible to obtain a mathematical model of a ship for control purposes without the need of describing or knowing the model structure in advance, i.e., the identification itself provides the model structure that better describes the system. Thus, we can define a reliable black-box model that is computed in a simple way and where no many experimental data are needed. The model obtained is tested with additional data and manoeuvres to show its good performance and prediction ability.

Distributed formation maneuver control by manipulating the complex Laplacian

This paper proposes a novel maneuvering technique for the complex-Laplacian-based formation control. We show how to modify the original weights that build the Laplacian such that a designed steady-state motion of the desired shape emerges from the local interactions among the agents. These collective motions can be exploited to solve problems such as the shaped consensus (the rendezvous with a particular shape), the enclosing of a target, or translations with controlled speed and heading to assist mobile robots in area coverage, escorting, and traveling missions, respectively. The designed steady-state collective motions correspond to rotations around the centroid, translations, and scalings of a reference shape. The proposed modification of the weights relocates one of the Laplacian's zero eigenvalues while preserving its associated eigenvector that constructs the desired shape. For example, such relocation on the imaginary or real axis induces rotational and scaling motions, respectively. We will show how to satisfy a sufficient condition to guarantee the global convergence to the desired shape and motions. Finally, we provide simulations and comparisons with other maneuvering techniques. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

For this reason heuristic methodologies have been proposed. In this paper, decision trees, Naive Bayes, and supervised classifying systems UCS, are combined toimprove the performance of a classifier. In order tovalidate the system, a scenariobased on real data of the NSL-KDD99 datasetis used.

Maneuvering and robustness issues in undirected displacement-consensus-based formation control

n this paper, we first propose a novel maneuvering technique compatible with displacement-consensus-based formation controllers. We show that the formation can be translated with an arbitrary velocity by modifying the weights in the consensus Laplacian matrix. In fact, we demonstrate that the displacement-consensus-based formation control is a particular case of our more general method. We then uncover robustness issues with undesired steady-state motions and resultant distorted shapes in undirected displacement-consensus-based formation control. In particular, these issues are triggered when neighboring agents mismeasure their relative positions, e.g., their onboard sensors are misaligned and have different scale factors. We will show that if all the sensing is close to perfect but different among the agents, then the stability of the system is compromised. Explicit expressions for the eventual non-desired velocity and shape’s distortion are given as functions of the scale factors and misalignments for formations based on tree graphs. We have four small mobile hexapods. Each hexapod has almost no brain, but can communicate via radio with a PC, using a limited set of digital messages. The hexapods know how to move, and can detect obstacles and some kind of objects. We have four PCs, one for each hexapod (so each hexapod has a helping brain). The PCs are interconnected using the parallel port. We can assign a task for the team, for instance to explore a field. The PCs must work in a coordinated way, exchanging messages. The development of this experimental scenario has been the subject of several projects done by students involved in robotics and computer science. One of the aspects covered is the use of real time operating systems for the PCs to work together. Other aspects are related with mobile robotics and the behavior of insectoids. The general set-up has been completed recently, and a new project will start to accomplish a task and study the results. An object oriented simulation is also another new project, which will be validated against the experimental results. Every project must generate documentation for others to use it. In general, the idea is to establish an interesting challenge, with obvious results. The paper presents the main educational objectives, and describes the chief parts of the experimental set-up: robots and PCs, interconnection characteristics. Then, the paper focuses on the projects done and under way, with emphasis on the pedagogical impact.

Heuristic methods are specially well suited to solve combinatorial problems. One of these problems is the distribution of petroleum products through oil pipelines networks. In this paper the problem is stated and solved using a multiobjective and constraint evolutionary optimization algorithm. Several objective functions has been defined to express the goals of the solutions as well as the preferences among them. Some constraints are included as hard objective functions and some has been evaluated through a repairing function to avoid infeasible solutions. An example of working is given.
