The Posit™ Number System was introduced in 2017 as a replacement for floating-point numbers. Since then, the community has explored its application in Neural Network related tasks and produced some unit designs which are still far from being competitive with their floating-point counterparts. This paper proposes a Posit Logarithm-Approximate Multiplication (PLAM) scheme to significantly reduce the complexity of posit multipliers, the most power-hungry units within Deep Neural Network architectures. When comparing with state-of-the-art posit multipliers, experiments show that the proposed technique reduces the area, power, and delay of hardware multipliers up to 72.86%, 81.79%, and 17.01%, respectively, without accuracy degradation. The problem of dynamic stochastic shortest path is NP-hard. The transportation network of the city is dynamic and stochastic, the optimal problem of path is widely used in the fields of transportation, communication and computer network. The paper investigates the shortest path problem based on the genetic algorithm principle, an improved self adaptive genetic algorithm is proposed by encoding the chromosomal mode. We improved genetic algorithm by adjusting the encoding parameters. The experiments indicate that the improved genetic algorithm DRSP-GA could obtain the better solutions which adapt to new transportation rapidly in global optimization than A* algorithm and Dijkstra algorithm in the shortest path problem.

The development of quantum computers represents a breakthrough in the evolution of computing. Their graceful processing capacity will help to solve some problems impossible until now because the algorithms that calculate their solution require too much amount of memory or processing time. In portfolio theory, the investment portfolio optimization problem is one of those problems whose complexity grows exponentially with the number of assets. In this work we analyze the Variational Quantum Eigensolver algorithm, applied to solve the portfolio optimization problem, running on simulators and real quantum computers from IBM. We compare the results with three other classical algorithms for the same problem, running one equivalent condition. By backtesting classical and quantum computing algorithms, we can get a sense of how these algorithms might perform in the real world. This work explores the backtesting of quantum and classical computing algorithms for portfolio optimization and compares the results. The benefits and drawbacks of backtesting are discussed, as well as some of the challenges involved in using real quantum computers of more than 100 qubits. Results show quantum algorithms can be competitive with classical ones, with the advantage of being able to handle a large number of assets in a reasonable time on a future larger quantum computer. © 2023, CC BY.

To maximize training effects in free weight exercises, people need to remember repetitions of each type of exercises, which is tedious and difficult. Recognizing exercises type and counting automatically can overcome this problem, and multiple accelerometers were used in the existing exercises recognition. This paper presents a new recognition method based on one triaxial accelerometer, in which a filtered acceleration data stream is divided into time series with unequal length for peak analysis instead of conventional fixed length window. Based on this time series, Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) is deployed to recognize weight exercise types. 3D Euclidean distance and Itakura parallelogram constraint region are used to improve recognition performance. A reference template is set up for each class based on many examples instead of one in the conventional way. The proposed procedures are compared with other popular methods with both the user-dependent protocol and the userindependent protocol. Motion deblurring is a critical ill-posed problem that is important in many vision-based robotics applications. The recently proposed event-based double integral (EDI) provides a theoretical framework for solving the deblurring prob-lem with the event camera and generating clear images at high frame-rate. However, the original EDI is mainly designed for offline computation and does not support real-time requirement in many robotics applications. In this paper, we propose the fast EDI, an efficient implementation of EDI that can achieve real-time online computation on single-core CPU devices, which is common for physical robotic platforms used in practice. In experiments, our method can handle event rates at as high as 13 million event per second in a wide variety of challenging lighting conditions. We demonstrate the benefit on multiple downstream real-time applications, including localization, vi-sual tag detection, and feature matching.

This paper proposes a pitch angle forecasting model based on the k-nearest neighbor classification. Air temperature, atmosphere pressure, wind direction, wind speed, rotor speed and wind power parameters were represented as a 6-dimensional attribute tuple in the forecasting model. Euclidean, Manhattan and Minkowski distance metrics for measuring the proximity between training and test tuples, mean absolute, mean absolute percentage, and normalized root mean square error metrics for measuring the forecasting accuracy were embedded into the forecasting model. The k-nearest neighbor classifier with Manhattan distance metric for k=1 achieved MAE, MAPE and NRMSE as 0.001°, 0.245% and 0.324%, respectively as the best forecasting accuracy. However, as the worst forecasting accuracy, MAE, MAPE and NRMSE were achieved as 0.015°, 3.236% and 2.613%, respectively for Minkowski distance metric and k=10.

This study presents the experience of the department of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS) - Riyadh Community College - King Saud University in its way to achieve the international accreditation standards to ensure quality. The study is based on a three years experience (2008-2010). The following will be clarified, the list of criteria adopted by AMS to ensure quality and the procedures adopted by AMS to apply accreditation standards to ensure quality of *** study followed the iterative descriptive approach in analyzing the topics. The results show the procedures how the standards were applied to ensure the quality of outputs by meeting the requirements in all aspects, national and international, especially of the internationally recognized organization Council on Occupational Education COE, by which the AMS was then accredited in June 2010. A four year development strategic plan is set for the department to ensure consistent quality and improvement standards. By reviewing the literature of former experiences of Arab and international bodies for accreditation and quality assurance, the study concluded a list of accreditation criteria and indicators of quality assurance, as well as indicators to ensure the quality of the university environment. The achieved number of accreditation and quality assurance standards are presented from both national and international organizations and were found to be: 25 accreditation standards leading to 245 indicators, and 41 indicators for QA, and 29 indicators for the QA of the university *** study recommended the need to activate the academic accreditation and assessment of academic programs periodically internally and externally. Furthermore, similar departments of applied medical sciences should adopt the presented accreditation and quality assurance principles. In addition those departments are asked to put a strategic plan that meets their needs and goals.

Crypto-currency markets are known to exhibit inefficiencies, which presents opportunities for profitable cyclic transactions or arbitrage, where one currency is traded for another in a way that results in a net gain without incurring any risk. Quantum computing has shown promise in financial applications, particularly in resolving optimization problems like arbitrage. In this paper, we introduce a differential evolution (DE) optimization algorithm for Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE) using Qiskit framework. We elucidate the application of crypto-currency arbitrage using different VQE optimizers. Our findings indicate that the proposed DE-based method effectively converges to the optimal solution in scenarios where other commonly used optimizers, such as COBYLA, struggle to find the global minimum. We further test this procedure’s feasibility on IBM’s real quantum machines up to 127 qubits. With a three-currency scenario, the algorithm converged in 417 steps over a 12-hour period on the "ibm_geneva" machine. Distributed formation control for manipulator end-effectors

We present three classes of distributed formation controllers for achieving and maintaining the 2D/3D formation shape of manipulator end-effectors to cope with different scenarios due to availability of modeling parameters. We firstly present a distributed formation controller for manipulators whose system parameters are perfectly known. The formation control objective is achieved by assigning virtual springs between end-effectors and by adding damping terms at joints, which provides a clear physical interpretation of the proposed solution. Subsequently, we extend it to the case where manipulator kinematic and system parameters are not exactly known. An extra integrator and an adaptive estimator are introduced for gravitational compensation and stabilization, respectively. Simulation results with planar manipulators and with seven degree-of-freedom humanoid manipulator arms are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
