This work suggests a novel nonlinear optimal controller design to control the electromagnetic torque of a horizontal-axis variable-speed wind power that contains three blades connected to the grid. This new controller extends the classical sliding mode by combining it with the fractional calculus and genetic algorithm. To showcase the enhanced performance of this controller, the emulation results in MATLAB were presented. This improved controller gives a high performance in terms of high tracking quality based on an MPPT (maximum power point tracking) algorithm, minimizing the peak of electromagnetic torque, attenuating the mechanical loads on the drive train thanks to mitigating the chattering, fast convergence when using a high switching gain value, removing chattering phenomenon even for high switching gain values, and ensuring more stability.

This present paper suggests an intelligent nonlinear controller based on the powerful law which is the sliding mode (SM) combined with the fractional calculus (FC) and optimized using the genetic algorithm (GA). This improved controller is applied to the three-blade horizontal-axis variable-speed wind power (WP) to control its electromagnetic torque using the two-mass model of the mechanical part of this WP connected to the grid. The main purpose of this developed controller is to minimize the high peak of the electromagnetic torque and minimize the loads on the drive train thanks to mitigating the chattering phenomenon (noting that the chatter is the major disadvantage of the majority of the controllers existing in the literature due to the high-frequency oscillations that damage the system). The benefits earned from this advanced controller are the high tracking quality based on the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm, the enlarged lifespan of WP thanks to mitigating the chatter, reducing the peak value of the electromagnetic torque and ensuring stability. The emulation results are presented under MATLAB software using two wind speed profile scenarios to prove these cited benefits.

E-grocery is a growing phenomenon that has the potential to rapidly change the way shopping is performed and goods distributed in cities. The impacts of this innovation can vary according to the delivery service performed, thus affecting positively or negatively the overall sustainability of urban freight transport. Understanding the dynamics of demand (i.e. consumers) will be useful to know how supply (i.e. supermarkets) should adapt, and how policy-makers should deal with this phenomenon. This paper presents an agent-based model to simulate different e-grocery scenarios at a neighbourhood scale. Agents are characterized with individual utility functions from a latent class model based on a stated preference survey performed in Rome (Italy). First results of a one-month simulation allow deriving some useful conclusion on the impact different grocery channels can have on travelled distance and consumer shopping time and formulating some policy implications. © 2020 IEEE.

Oscillations of atmospheric muon and electron neutrinos produce tau neutrinos with energies in the GeV range, which can be observed by the ORCA detector of the KM3NeT neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea. First measurements with ORCA6, an early subarray corresponding to about 5% of the final detector, are presented. A sample of 5828 neutrino candidates has been selected from the analysed exposure of 433 kton-years. The ντ normalisation, defined as the ratio between the number of observed and expected tau neutrino events, is measured to be Sτ = 0.48+0−0.335 . This translates into a ντ charged-current cross section measurement of στmeas = (2.5+2−1.68) × 10−38 cm2 nucleon−1 at the median ντ energy of 20.3 GeV. The result is consistent with the measurements of other experiments. In addition, the current limit on the non-unitarity parameter affecting the τ-row of the neutrino mixing matrix was improved, with α33 > 0.95 at the 95% confidence level. With an unconventional approach, we regard the problem of building a precise adaptive model of oil price dynamics in the context of investment projects. I. Newton formulated the principle of analysis. We list the Principles of applying the stochastic theory of asset management to building the optimal investment projects in oil and gas field development. We also analyze all the data of daily oil exchange from 1988 to 2019 (spot prices, Platts (Platt’s) McGraw Hill Financial). We use methods and quantitative evaluations of adaptive BMS models with stochastic switches. We outline precise (normalized quadratic deviation within 9%) adaptive BMS models, plot extrapolation (quasi-forecast) on a stability period; make a stability period quasi-forecast and list essential quantitative evaluations and graphs. We discuss the possibility of quick profiting using BMS models. We also discuss the approaches to solving the problem of building optimal midterm oil and gas field development projects and operations, as well as the results we acquire. Analysis of incomes and expenses of an optimal investment project would allow for a substantiated decision on whether the development should be started or forgone.

Vacancy Induced Energy Band Gap Changes of Semiconducting Zigzag Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes

In this work, we have examined how the multi-vacancy defects induced in the horizontal direction change the energetics and the electronic structure of semiconducting Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs). The electronic structure of SWCNTs is computed for each deformed configuration by means of real space, Order(N) Tight Binding Molecular Dynamic (O(N) TBMD) simulations. Energy band gap is obtained in real space through the behavior of electronic density of states (eDOS) near the Fermi level. Vacancies can effectively change the energetics and hence the electronic structure of SWCNTs. In this study, we choose three different kinds of semiconducting zigzag SWCNTs and determine the band gap modifications. We have selected (12,0), (13,0) and (14,0) zigzag SWCNTs according to n (mod 3) = 0, n (mod 3) = 1 and n (mod 3) = 2 classification. (12,0) SWCNT is metallic in its pristine state. The application of vacancies opens the electronic band gap and it goes up to 0.13 eV for a di-vacancy defected tube. On the other hand (13,0) and (14,0) SWCNTs are semiconductors with energy band gap values of 0.44 eV and 0.55 eV in their pristine state, respectively. Their energy band gap values decrease to 0.07 eV and 0.09 eV when mono-vacancy defects are induced in their horizontal directions. Then the di-vacancy defects open the band gap again. So in both cases, the semiconducting-metallic - semiconducting transitions occur. It is also shown that the band gap modification exhibits irreversible characteristics, which means that band gap values of the nanotubes do not reach their pristine values with increasing number of vacancies. This article focuses on investigation on to what extent would inhabitants of dwellings be willing to pay extra price for an apartment with increased sound insulation. A typical 3 room apartment in Bratislava was chosen as a case study. Online listening tests were used as a tool to understand the preferred price-quality ratio. The primary financial value of a case study apartment was estimated on real estate market in the third quarter of 2020. Later, nine (9) different variants of sound insulation of partition walls separating dwellings were considered. These walls were chosen on the basis of different construction system, two heavy-weight: (1) brick and (2) concrete, and (3) light-weight double walls-based gypsum boards. Each construction base was divided into three categories of defined by weighed sound transmission index Rw (53 dB, 55 dB and 59 dB). The four types of sounds (pink noise, cough, quarrel, party noise) were filtered through the wall spectra, e.g. sound transmission index R (dB) of chosen walls. These sounds were presented during the online listening test along with a total price for the particular apartment. The test subjects were asked to decide, which apartment they would choose based on an increased acoustic comfort and increase price of the apartment. © 2022 Internoise 2022 - 51st International Congress and Exposition on Noise Control Engineering. This article provides an explanation of the use of a Twin-Array Quasi Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) Reflector with Dual Band Cross-Dipole for antenna applications in 5G base stations. The base material employed in this study is FR4 sheet, which has a dielectric constant (ϵr) of 4.3. The antenna obtained has dimensions of 100x100 mm2 and functions throughout the frequency spectrum spanning from 730 to 860 MHz, 1700 to 2130 MHz. The primary benefits of this antenna design are its lightweight structural composition, compatibility with the frequency range of 730-860 MHz, and discernible performance attributes. The CST Studio Suite software was used to conduct a simulation of the antenna's performance. The antenna has an operating frequency range of 730-860 MHz and 1700-2130 MHz, enabling it to support a unidirectional wave propagation pattern that is suitable for the implementation of a 5G mobile communication base station. © 2023 IEEE.

To achieve high efficiency of the electricity production for wind turbines, an improved controller has a crucial role in achieving this goal by capturing the most wind energy based on the maximum power point tracking approach. This research paper suggests a new nonlinear controller design to control the electromagnetic torque for horizontal-axis variable-speed wind power with three blades connected to the grid to render them more profitable and efficient in terms of the highest rate of electricity production. This proposed controller binds the sliding mode (SM) with the fractional calculus (FC) and the neural network (NN) to exploit the benefits of each technique. The SM is a popular technique and is the most used in controlling nonlinear systems. The effectiveness of the SM is shown in its ability to stabilize the system, drive it to the desired state in a finite time, and reduce the sensitivity to parameter variations. However, the main drawback of SM is the chattering phenomenon. This phenomenon refers to the high-frequency oscillations that occur around the sliding surface. The chatter arises due to the discontinuous nature of the SM control law, which switches between different control actions to keep the system states on the sliding surface. The main contribution of this present work is to tackle this undesirable issue that can damage the system, destroy the components, and lead the system to instability. The solution lies in suggesting a new controller that combines SM, FC, and NN because the FC provides better modeling concerning the dynamic behavior by outperforming the classical operators by using the non-integer order. And, the NN aims to estimate the unknown dynamics that are incorporated in the equivalent term in SM, reduce the chattering by compensating for the uncertainties, allow the system to adjust to varying conditions related to the uncontrollable wind, and make an adaptive controller by improving its performance over time by learning the system
