In 2017, a high-energy muon neutrino detected by IceCube was found positionally coincident with the direction of a known blazar, TXS 0506+056, in a state of enhanced γ-ray emission. Soon after, IceCube reported a compelling evidence for an earlier neutrino flare from the same direction found in the archival data, this time not accompanied by any observed electromagnetic activity. The IceCube findings suggest searching for flaring neutrino emissions from astrophysical sources, not necessarily accompanied by flares detected in γ-rays. The analysis presented in this contribution scans the events collected by the ANTARES neutrino telescope in 13 years of data taking in a search for clustering in space and time. The analysis method is based on an unbinned maximum likelihood approach. Generic Gaussian and Box profiles are assumed for the signal time emission, with both the central time and duration of the flare being free parameters in the likelihood maximization. Just as humans show conscious of their body, social robots, in the way to be truly autonomous, they should also be able to recognize its own configuration. Our research group is working on a project named BertsoBot which aims to develop social minstrel robots for entertainment. The work presented here focuses on the automatic recognition of robot self body postures. Only proprioceptive information is being used and several supervised classifiers are compared to make the approrpiate choice that fulfills the task requirements. A ROS module that performs the online classification has been implemented for endowing the robot with self awareness capabilities. The developed implementation allows our NAO minstrel robot to make decisions based on its body posture and state instead of just relying on a blind finite state automaton. A demo is provided in a link to a video.

In human-centered intelligent building, real-time measurements of human thermal comfort play critical roles and supply feedback control signals for building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Due to the challenges of intra- and inter-individual differences and skin subtleness variations, there is no satisfactory solution for thermal comfort measurements until now. In this paper, a non-invasive measuring method based on skin sensitivity index and deep learning (NISDL) was proposed to measure real-time skin temperature. A new evaluating index, named skin sensitivity index (SSI), was defined to overcome individual differences and skin subtleness variations. To illustrate the effectiveness of SSI proposed, two multi-layers deep learning framework (NISDL method I and II) was designed and the DenseNet201 was used for extracting features from skin images. The partly personal saturation temperature (NIPST) algorithm was use for algorithm comparisons. Another deep learning algorithm without SSI (DL) was also generated for algorithm comparisons. Finally, a total of 1.44 million image data was used for algorithm validation. The results show that 55.6180% and 52.2472% error values (NISDL method I, II) are scattered at [0 °C, 0.25 °C), and the same error intervals distribution of NIPST is 35.3933%. The Pongkor post-mining area is designated as one of the ecotourism areas in Bogor. This area has biodiversity of flora and fauna. This study aims to: (1) analysis the importance value index (IVI) of flora types; (2) analysis species richness index, species diversity index, and relative species abundance index; (3) analysis the beauty, the uniqueness and the rarity of the flora and fauna types. The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive. Based on the identification results, 185 species of flora are distributed in this region. During the rainy season, 15 species of herpetofauna were identified, 32 types of aves, and 4 types of mammals, while in the dry season 19 species of herpetofauna were identified, 23 types of aves, and 2 types of mammals. Based on the results of the analysis conducted on these flora and fauna, there are flora species that have high IVI values and some beautiful and unique flora species that are in the category of endangered species. Besides that, there are also fauna species which have a value of species richness index, species diversity index, and relative species abundance index, as well as some beautiful, unique, and fauna species that are in the category of endangered species.

KM3NeT is a deep-sea neutrino observatory under construction at two sites in the Mediterranean Sea. The ARCA telescope (Italy), aims at identifying and studying TeV-PeV astrophysical neutrino sources, while the ORCA telescope (France), aims at studying the intrinsic properties of neutrinos in the few-GeV range. Since they are optimised in complementary energy ranges, both telescopes can be used to do neutrino astronomy from a few MeV to a few PeV, despite of their different primary goals. The KM3NeT observatory takes active part to the real-time multi-messenger searches, which allow to study transient phenomena by combining information from the simultaneous observation of complementary cosmic messengers with different observatories. In this respect, a key component is the real-time distribution of alerts when potentially interesting detections occur, in order to increase the discovery potential of transient sources and refine the localization of poorly localized triggers, such as gravitational waves. The KM3NeT real-time analysis framework is currently reconstructing all ARCA and ORCA events, searching for spatial and temporal coincidences with alerts received from other operating multi-messenger instruments and performing core-collapse supernova analyses. The selection of a sample of interesting events to send alerts to the external multi-messenger community is presently under definition. Computational simulations of the retina have led to valuable insights about the biophysics of its neuronal activity and processing principles. A great number of retina models have been proposed to reproduce the behavioral diversity of the different visual processing pathways. While many of these models share common computational stages, previous efforts have been more focused on fitting specific retina functions rather than generalizing them beyond a particular model. Here, we define a set of computational retinal microcircuits that can be used as basic building blocks for the modeling of different retina mechanisms. To validate the hypothesis that similar processing structures may be repeatedly found in different retina functions, we implemented a series of retina models simply by combining these computational retinal microcircuits. Accuracy of the retina models for capturing neural behavior was assessed by fitting published electrophysiological recordings that characterize some of the best-known phenomena observed in the retina: adaptation to the mean light intensity and temporal contrast, and differential motion sensitivity. The retinal microcircuits are part of a new software platform for efficient computational retina modeling from single-cell to large-scale levels. It includes an interface with spiking neural networks that allows simulation of the spiking response of ganglion cells and integration with models of higher visual areas. © 2016 World Scientific Publishing Company.

This paper presents a novel system which has been developed to supervise in real time the operation of a Grid-Connected Utility-Scale PV Power Plant in order to ensure a reliable and uninterruptible power supply. The system is composed of a complex acquisition architecture which measures the required information with a high temporal resolution and using a high-precision protocol for synchronizing all the devices, something strictly necessary for accurately establishing a relationship among all events taking place in the plant. Moreover, an advanced system for monitoring and supervising all the distributed devices, as well as for the real-time treatment of all the registered information is presented. This system does not only enable a better control over the performance of all the PV plant's components by detecting any failures or deviations in production, but it also monitors the power quality of the injected signal and its influence on the distribution grid. © 2016 IEEE.

An improved Gene Expression Programming (GEP) based on niche technology of outbreeding fusion (OFN-GEP) is proposed to overcome the insufficiency of traditional GEP in this paper. The main improvements of OFN-GEP are as follows: (1) using the population initialization strategy of gene equilibrium to ensure that all genes are evenly distributed in the coding space as far as possible;(2) introducing the outbreeding fusion mechanism into the niche technology, to eliminate the kin individuals, fuse the distantly related individuals, and promote the gene exchange between the excellent individuals from niches. To validate the superiority of the OFN-GEP, several improved GEP proposed in the related literatures and OFN-GEP are compared about function finding problems. The experimental results show that OFN-GEP can effectively restrain the premature convergence phenomenon, and promises competitive performance not only in the convergence speed but also in the quality of solution.

This paper shows that parallel processing is useful for feature selection in brain-computer interfacing (BCI) tasks. The classification problems arising in such application usually involve a relatively small number of high-dimensional patterns and, as curse of dimensionality issues have to be taken into account, feature selection is an important requirement to build suitable classifiers. As the number of features defining the search space is high, the distribution of the searching space among different processors would contribute to find better solutions, requiring similar or even smaller amount of execution time than sequential counterpart procedures. We have implemented a parallel evolutionary multiobjective optimization procedure for feature selection, based on the island model, in which the individuals are distributed among different subpopulations that independently evolve and interchange individuals after a given number of generations. The experimental results show improvements in both computing time and quality of EEG classification with features extracted by multiresolution analysis (MRA), an approach widely used in the BCI field with useful properties for both temporal and spectral signal analysis. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.

The ANTARES neutrino telescope was operational in the Mediterranean Sea from 2006 to 2022. The detector array, consisting of 12 vertical string-like structures hosting a total of 885 optical modules, was designed to detect high-energy neutrinos covering energies from a few tens of GeV up to the PeV range. Despite the relatively small size of the detector, the results obtained are relevant in the field of neutrino astronomy, due to the view of the Southern sky and the good angular resolution of the telescope. This document will give an overview of the legacy results of ANTARES, including searches for point sources, neutrinos from the Galactic Ridge, from dark matter annihilation, and from transients, as well as limits on new physics. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.
