In order to move Digital Rights Management to the Internet, a common rights expression language is needed. ODRL (Open Digital Rights Language) is one of the proposed solutions. It is based on a XML language and thus it just formalises the language syntax, while language semantics are specified informally. Actually, ODRL seems quite complete and generic enough to cope with such a complex domain. However, the problem is that it has such a rich structure that it is difficult to implement. In our opinion, it lacks formal semantics that would help ODRL applications development. As the application context is the Web, our approach to formalise ODRL semantics is based on semantic web ontologies. Firstly, ORDL has been moved to the Semantic Web space using XML Schema to OWL and XML to RDF tools. This provides some simple semantics. In order to refine them, the resulting ODRL ontologies have been connected to IPROnto, a result of previous research. IPROnto, Intellectual Property Rights Ontology, models the IPR core concepts for creation, intellectual property rights and the basic kinds of actions that operate on intellectual property. It enables semantics-aware IPR applications that benefit from semantic queries, in contrast to the difficulties that emerge from the use of syntactic queries when the information space is as complicated as in the IPR field. Moreover, specialised reasoners can be used for license checking and retrieval. All these advantages have been propagated to ODRL thanks to this mapping.

This paper makes an extensive description of a real fuel distribution problem. It includes the description of the elements, process, constraints and difficulties of the real problem, as well as the description of the efficient system that has been designed to solve it. This system combines a global strategy working with the whole set of orders and vehicles – global optimisation – and a local one – local optimisation – that tries to improve parts of the global solution, concretely pairs of routes. Both parts are combination of Simulated Annealing and a Route Building Heuristic. The main objective is to obtain good quality results in little time with this aim, the system has been parallelised, and, as a consequence, the same quality results can be obtained dividing the time by the number of processors. Satisfactory average results were obtained: the experts in the company ratified that solutions for problems with 170 orders are obtained in a couple of minutes, and savings greater than 10% are obtained as well. On the other hand, in problems of Solomon's benchmark, average results are very good in distance, whereas in vehicles, they are under 10% worse than the optimal one. This experimentation has been always done by limiting the number of solutions explored to 32,000.

Today, it has become more difficult for individual designer to fulfill the complicated design work due to the complexity of modern products. Grid provides a supporting environment for collaborative design. Cooperating work is the key to ensure the success of products design. Developing within the grid-based environment that is suitable to the demand of manufacturing design on special area is a challenge to the traditional methods of software development. In this paper, it creates a framework based manufacturing grid that uses peer-to-peer technology. According to this framework, there is a cooperating design environment, in which designers can make designing of machine tools. It also discusses the schedule of cooperating.

The numerical calculation of the Fresnel Transform (FST) presents significant challenges due to the high sampling rate associated with the chirp function in the kernel. The development of a general algorithm is further complicated due the fact that the output extent of the FST is dependant on the propagation distance. In this paper we implement a novel technique for calculating the FST in which we use the Wigner Distribution Function (WDF) to choose an optimal sampling rate. This method is suitable for all propagation distances. Our method can also be used to describe the effect of a lens in an optical system. A lens in an optical system is modeled as a Chirp Modulation Transform (CMT), which acts on the spatial frequency distribution of a signal in a manner that is analogous to the effect an FST has on the spatial distribution of a signal. Combining our results for the FST and the CMT we numerically calculate the light distribution at the output of both a Cai-Wang and a Lohmann Type-1 Optical Fractional Fourier Transform (OFRT) system. Analytic solutions for the OFRT of a square (1-D) and circular (1-D) aperture are presented. The numerical results are compared to the analytically derived solution.
A novel method for efficiently simulating large scale realistic neural networks is described. Most information transmission in these networks is accomplished by the so called action potentials, events which are consid...

Two architectures for parallel-prefix modulo 2 n - 1 adders are presented in this paper. For large wordlengths we introduce the sparse modulo 2 n - 1 adders that achieve significant reduction of the wiring complexity without imposing any delay penalty. Then, the Ling-carry formulation of modulo 2 n - 1 addition is presented. Ling modulo adders save one logic level of implementation and provide high-speed solutions for smaller adder widths, where wiring complexity is small. The performance of the proposed adders has been validated with static CMOS implementations. In all examined cases, the proposed designs achieve significant savings in both area and delay compared to previously published architectures.
